Entry fees are tiered as outlined below, start with tier 1 @ $15. Per exhibitor, all species entered: 1 st & 2 nd entries: $15.00 per head, 3 rd & 4 th entries: $10/head, 5 th entry or more: $5.00/head. $25 WLBA annual dues must be submitted with entry if not already paid. The WLBA Spring Preview Swine Show is a 2019 sanctioned WSPA show. WSPA members only will be allowed to show under their associations age limits. *See WSPA guidelines in swine rule section. Family members and other junior exhibitors are allowed to assist. Exhibitors must show their own animals. Any exception to this rule must be cleared with the WLBA show chairman. Registration papers must be in the name of the exhibitor or in his/her parents or farm name. To be eligible for Bred and Owned competition (Beef show only), the breeder and the owner of the animal must be in the exhibitors name only. All purebred animals in each species must have registration papers to exhibit in purebred classes. No medicines/drugs may be given to an animal at the show without a vet and show chairman approval. Any animal showing symptoms of a contagious disease will not be permitted to show and will need to be taken home. Any animal that has been altered by a surgical procedure will be disqualified. Sheep and Swine pens will be assigned. Check your exhibitor letter that will be posted online prior to the show or the WLBA website for this information by May 30. Priority will be given to exhibitors with entries made by May 1. All pens, stalls, and fitting areas must be cleaned thoroughly before exhibitors leave. See your exhibitor letter for specific guidelines. Exhibitors will be charged for pens not cleaned. There will be no smoking in the barns, use of controlled substances, or alcohol on the grounds by either exhibitors or adults. Interpretation of any rule infraction rests with the show committee which has the authority to bar an exhibitor from exhibiting at this show or other WLBA shows.

SHOWMANSHIP: Showmanship age within each species is age as of January 1, 2019. BEEF RULES: Exhibitors may show up to 5 heifers and 3 steers. Heifers must be born after September 1, 2017. Heifers must be purchased by May 1, 2019. Heifers without papers and crossbred heifers will be shown as a Commercial breed. Purebred heifers must be 75% or more purebred and must carry an ear tattoo corresponding to the registration papers. Heifers will be shown by breed with classes determined after all heifers have been checked in. Exhibitors may also enter cow/calf pairs. Steers must be born after January 1, 2018. Steers must carry a state or county fair tag. Steers will be shown by breed and weight. Purebred Angus and Hereford steers need registration papers in the exhibitor s name. If there are less than 5 steers in one breed, that breed will show in an Any Other Breed class. No dairy steers will be shown. No steers with horns longer than 1 from the hair line will show. Loosely attached scurs are permitted to show. No butt fans allowed. SWINE RULES: Since the Spring Preview is a WSPA sanction show all WSPA rules are included and will be followed. All swine exhibitors including WSPA members must be 2019 WLBA members. Swine entries DO NOT have to be pre-identified-please indicate only how many animals you will be showing. Each exhibitor must present a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection. If you would like to keep your original inspection form, please bring a copy to submit to the show official as one will be retained. *WSPA members only will be allowed to enter day of show without a late entry fee, BUT to allow show management time to make pen assignments anyone who enters after the May 20 th postmark deadline will be required to show out of trailer if pen space is no longer available. Pen space day of show will be given on a first come-first serve basis if there is any available. SHEEP RULES: Exhibitors may show up to 4 ewes and 4 rams of each breed they are showing. Commercial/wether-type ewe lambs and yearling ewes will be considered a breed and will have their own classes. Commercial ewes will be shown by weight not age, please make sure to bring them through the scale upon check-in. Exhibitors must provide registration papers on purebred breeding sheep. Ewes without proper papers will show as a commercial ewe. Rams without registration papers will not show-commercial/wether-type rams are not allowed. All sheep must carry an ear tag corresponding to registration papers. All female and sexually intact males need scrapie tags. Purchased sheep must be purchased by May 31, 2019. If the animal was purchased late, bring a bill of sale in the exhibitor s name. Ewe & Ram Classes: Yearling Ewe/Rams must be born after September 1, 2017. Winter lambs: born between Jan 1-Feb 15, 2019. Spring lambs: born on or after February 16, 2019. Fall lambs: born Sept 1-Dec 31, 2018. Two exhibitors are allowed to show breeding sheep, the exhibitor of the sheep entered must be on head. Market Lamb Classes: Up to 5 market lambs may be shown per exhibitor. Lambs must be born after January 1, 2019. Market lamb entries DO NOT have to be pre-identified-please indicate only how many animals you will be showing. Lambs will be shown by breed/weight. No patch shearing is allowed. Lambs must not have more than one-half inch of wool. No tubes or blankets allowed on lambs during weigh-in. Lambs will be allowed over the scale one time and weight and breed determination by the show chairman/committee is final. Materials or paint may not be used to change the color of an animal. Animals with altered natural color will be disqualified. No drenching and muzzles are allowed for breeding or market lambs. Infractions will result in disqualification. Lead Class: Ewes or wethers may be used in this class. Entrants shall wear attire made of wool fabrics. The class is judged on the following percentages; 50% on exhibitor attire, 30% on presentation of sheep-showmanship, 20% on personality and knowledge of project of exhibitor during interview. Entrants shall provide the show chairman with a lead class biography by 8:00 am at the check-in site. Supporting Wisconsin s Show Pig Industry ~~www.wisconsinshowpigassociation.com 2019 WSPA Sanctioned Show Rules All shows will have 2 options for weighing barrows and crossbred gilts. Option 1: The show coordinator will weigh pigs during the morning of the show. Hogs will not be allowed to weigh the night before.this does not require a weigh back of the top 2 placing pigs during exhibition. Option 2: Exhibitors will declare the weight at which they would like to show their pig, and a mandatory weigh back of the first 2 placing pigs in class will be enforced. The weigh back will be 10 pounds at all May and June shows. Please read each sanctioned show s rules carefully. Only grand and reserve breed champions (gilts and barrows) can be considered for the selection of overall top 5 gilt and barrow honors. Youth must be a paid member of the WSPA prior to point accumulation towards the show circuit. Youth dues are $15 per individual. Wisconsin youth 21 years old and younger of Jan. 1, 2019 are eligible to become WSPA youth members. There is no minimum age limit however to collect points, the member must be able to exhibit their pig on their own without assistance from anyone. Special arrangements can be made beforehand for exhibitors that need special consideration. Shows are open to any youth 21 years old and younger as of Jan. 1, 2019. Out of state youth are allowed to show, however, only youth members of the WSPA will be eligible to collect points. Each exhibitor must present Certificate of Veterinary Inspection at each show. Ear notches will be used for hog identification at each of the shows. Each breed will have their own class regardless of entry numbers. Barrows will be shown by breed and weight, but must be born after Dec. 1, 2018. Gilts will be judged as breeding gilts. Purebred gilts will show by age. Crossbred gilts will be shown by weight. All gilts must be born after Dec. 1, 2018. Barrows and crossbred gilts may be shown at any weight. All purebreds must meet respective breed characteristics. Registration papers must be submitted before the final show. If not, the next animal in line will take Grand/Reserve honors. Individual youth must be present to exhibit their own animal for their points to accumulate in the show circuit. Once a pig is exhibited by a WSPA member and points are collected on that pig, no other WSPA member may collect points on that pig the rest of the show circuit including family members. Tiebreakers will be broken by the person with the most wins. A hog must obtain points at a minimum of two shows to qualify for an end of season award. Showmanship classes will be split into the following age divisions: Little Whips (4 and under); Novice (5-8) ; Junior (9-12) ; Intermediate (13-16) ; and Senior (17-21). Ages are as of Jan. 1, 2019. Little Whips showmanship will be for experience only. No placings will be given. Points will be awarded for participation. WSPA members will be allowed to collect points from all but 2 shows during the 2019 show season. The 2 shows with the lowest total point value will be dropped. In the case of a double header the show with the highest point total will be counted toward the end of the season total. Dropping the lower of 2 shows at a double header will not count towards dropping 2 shows at the end of the season. Any grievances must be presented in writing to a WSPA representative within 24 hours of the incident and accompanied by a $100 fee. Fee will be refunded if grievance upheld.
