CARE s Foster Home Volunteers are essential to the rescue program. The number of pets CARE can save is directly related to the number of volunteer foster homes available. When you foster, you save a life! We count on our foster families to help increase the adoptability of our pets by teaching basic manners such as walking on a leash, housetraining (if needed), and other basics such as sit and no jump. CARE provides the veterinary care and food You provide the love!
Caseworkers receive and review adoption applications and work closely with the foster families to match potential adopters with the most appropriate adoptable pet. This extra-special volunteer opportunity is your chance to experience firsthand the incredibly rewarding process of helping a homeless pet find his or her forever home.
CARE provides a low-cost spay/neuter clinic for pets from families with limited incomes. There are several opportunities for volunteers including welcoming guests to the clinic building, intake paperwork, assisting pets in recovery following surgery, dog walking, laundry, and providing important postsurgery information to pet owners.
Paws in Prison is a collaboration between CARE and the Arkansas Department of Correction. In the program, selected model inmates have the opportunity to become trainers of rescued dogs. Inmates work with the dogs teaching them basic obedience skills and proper socialization, making them more adoptable. Volunteers are needed to assist with caseworking, providing foster homes, and transporting the dogs to and from Saturday showings.
Be the first to welcome visitors to the HQ! By being friendly, helpful, and positive, you will serve an important role in assisting the CARE staff with our mission. Volunteers are needed to assist staff with phones and to help customers in the gift shop. Basic computer skills are required and time commitment is one day or one-half day per week.
At CARE Headquarters Adoptable pets are shown at CARE headquarters each Saturday from 11am-2pm (cats until 1pm). Volunteers are assigned one adoptable dog to handle and will be provided with info about the dog to share with visitors and potential adopters.
