CARE Volunteer Opportunities Thank you for your interest and generosity! Volunteers are the backbone of our organization. There is such a variety of opportunities, you are bound to find something to enjoy while also helping animals in Central Arkansas.

Areas of Service At CARE, there are 7 volunteer areas of service: Foster Homes Caseworkers Spay/Neuter Clinic Paws in Prison Headquarters/Gift Shop Showing Pets at HQ Special Events More information about these opportunities to follow

CARE s Foster Home Volunteers are essential to the rescue program. The number of pets CARE can save is directly related to the number of volunteer foster homes available. When you foster, you save a life! We count on our foster families to help increase the adoptability of our pets by teaching basic manners such as walking on a leash, housetraining (if needed), and other basics such as sit and no jump. CARE provides the veterinary care and food You provide the love!

Caseworkers receive and review adoption applications and work closely with the foster families to match potential adopters with the most appropriate adoptable pet. This extra-special volunteer opportunity is your chance to experience firsthand the incredibly rewarding process of helping a homeless pet find his or her forever home.

CARE provides a low-cost spay/neuter clinic for pets from families with limited incomes. There are several opportunities for volunteers including welcoming guests to the clinic building, intake paperwork, assisting pets in recovery following surgery, dog walking, laundry, and providing important postsurgery information to pet owners.

Paws in Prison is a collaboration between CARE and the Arkansas Department of Correction. In the program, selected model inmates have the opportunity to become trainers of rescued dogs. Inmates work with the dogs teaching them basic obedience skills and proper socialization, making them more adoptable. Volunteers are needed to assist with caseworking, providing foster homes, and transporting the dogs to and from Saturday showings.

Be the first to welcome visitors to the HQ! By being friendly, helpful, and positive, you will serve an important role in assisting the CARE staff with our mission. Volunteers are needed to assist staff with phones and to help customers in the gift shop. Basic computer skills are required and time commitment is one day or one-half day per week.

At CARE Headquarters Adoptable pets are shown at CARE headquarters each Saturday from 11am-2pm (cats until 1pm). Volunteers are assigned one adoptable dog to handle and will be provided with info about the dog to share with visitors and potential adopters.

CARE s Four Annual Special Events: Paws on the Pavement Paws in the Vineyard Paws on the Runway Photos with Santa More on each of these events to follow

Paws on the Pavement is CARE s annual 5K run/walk event. This special event has turned into one of Arkansas largest and most fun dog parties. Pets from all over central Arkansas bring their humans for a romping good time! Vendors sell pet-oriented items, a nationally-renowned psychic performs pet readings, and guest veterinarians offer on-site microchipping.

Paws in the Vineyard, our newest annual event, is a memorable night of wine-tasting, delectable hors d oeuvres, and a fabulous silent auction. Volunteers are needed to assist with set up, wine pouring and more!

Paws on the Runway is our annual doggie fashion show where local celebrities along with their pets (or adoptable CARE pets) walk the runway sporting the latest fashions. This event is held at the Governor s Mansion and features wine, beer, hors d oeuvres and a silent auction. Volunteers are needed with registration check-in, auction activities, and handling celebrities pets in the outdoor holding area as they await their turn on the runway. This is a really fun event Join Us!

Photos with Santa is a wonderful opportunity to showcase your favorite furry friends with St. Nick! A professional photographer is on hand with the help of volunteers to ensure a fun and safe experience for all. Volunteers help with check-in, assist pets being photographed and aid Santa with any special needs.

CARE s Board consists of the following people who serve in a volunteer capacity for the good of the organization. Each has their own area of service. Dr. Laura Lamps, President Becky McCauley, Vice President Ava Hicks, Secretary Harry Light, Treasurer Virginia Boyd Dr. Mary Parker Jan Smith Diane Tidwell Dr. Kim Miller
