ONE PAGE SYNOPSIS (354 words, 2,091 characters) FLYING FUR follows pilot Paul Steklenski and his team of animal rescuers as they struggle through a mission during the challenging summer weather of 2018. Paul s goal in life is to share the life-affirming experience he had with his own rescue pet, Tessa. The love Paul and Tessa share is something Paul aspires to bring to as many people as possible. And saving the lives of animals in kill-shelters throughout the southern states is where his mission starts. Along with his team in North Carolina, he helps organize animal rescues that transport dogs and cats to their forever homes. But, it s not easy work. Sometimes missions are canceled. Sometimes rescues are postponed. When a mission fails, the dogs and cats are left in jeopardy. The stakes are high and lives are always in peril. In FLYING FUR, we meet the dogs that Paul has saved in the past, as well as the dogs Paul is actively trying to save. We learn of Emma, an early rescue that solidified Paul s resolution to be a rescue pilot. We learn of Teddy, a desperate medical case that, if the flight doesn t get him to a qualified vet, will loose his life. During all this, Paul explains his motivations of becoming an animal rescue pilot while stressing about the likelihood of the flight even taking place. Paul and his North Carolina colleagues frantically communicate, attempting to adapt the flight logistics as best they can. The planning is tense and requires considering options that Paul has never taken into account before. And, even though the flight in the film represents the milestone of potentially saving his 1000 th animal, Paul concedes that he can t push beyond the limits of his skills or the plane. Risking lives just isn t an option. As the story unfolds, Paul s mission is explained in detail. We ultimately learn the fate of his task, the rescuers, and the dogs. The characters in the film describe the process, the emotion, and the desire to do what they do. This inspiring tail allows the viewer to appreciate the compassion and significant relationship we share with our loveable pets.
