Ang Mo Kio murder: An analysis By ธนย จ ตน ป งเส ง, North Hume Acting on information, police enter an apartment in Ang Mo Kio at 4 a.m. They find the dead body of an adult female on the floor of the front room. There are no signs of disturbances in the other rooms. Inspection reveals severe bruising and lacerations to the head and abdomen. The rectal body temperature is found to be 33 C (91 F). You may take normal body temperature as 37 C (99 F). The air-conditioner is found to be switched off and the temperature in the room is 25 C (77 F). The arms, but not the legs, are stiff. The window is broken, but there is hardly any broken glass on the floor. Enquiries yield the following information: Witness 1 reports hearing a disturbance in the apartment at 10 p.m. Witness 2 reports that the resident of the apartment was on bad terms with the landlords, Mr. and Mrs. Goyle, and their two sons. Witness 3 reports seeing the sons of Mr. and Mrs. Goyle in Jurong Point at 10:20 p.m. Witness 4 reports a vehicle speeding from Mayflower in the direction of Yishun, driving in a reckless manner. Scrapings from under the deceased fingernails provided materials for DNA analysis. The STR gel electrophoresis of this material, the diagram showing blood splatter patterns and the map of Singapore are shown below.

The highway from Siglap to Marsiling actually continues into neighbouring Ruritania, passing through K&K Country Club and Resort (110km east of Marsiling), Streslau (155km east) and Cornwall (380km east). It may be relevant in the next forensic case.

Of course, there are some questions that I shall investigate based on the findings. Marks on the attacker: I would expect to observe scratch marks as there was a high chance of a spectacular fight between the attacker and the victim. As there are scrapings under the deceased person's fingernails, it would show that they had put up a fight with the attacker and scratched them at some point. Additionally, if the attacker did not wash himself after leaving, coffee stains and possibly blood may be found on him as the blood splattered on the wall and coffee cups spilt on the floor, meaning that they may also have splashed on him. Coffee cups may have been meant to have it as a peaceful disucssion over the housing with the landlord, but the resulting was aggressive, presumably because they could not come up with a compromise. Evidence on the door handle: Fingerprints from the attacker and/or victim. In the case of the attacker, not wearing gloves would mean they would need to touch the door handle to open and close it, which would leave fingerprints. If they did use gloves, the residue left by them (if any) may be analyzed instead. While the victim may have (unsuccessfully) attempted to open the door to escape from being killed. Where the weapon, if one was used, would be found: Probably thrown from inside the apartment, since the average 4am temperature in Ang Mo Kio at this time of the year is 17 C. Additionally, there is a lack of broken glass found inside the apartment; there is also no weapon found inside the apartment. That would mean the weapon is most likely found on the ground just below that smashed window. But there is the possibility that the attacker went down after the attack, grabbed his weapon and headed away from the crime scene with his other son towards Jurong Point near Mayflower. Which means the weapon could also very well be in their vehicle, or even dumped in the wilderness between Mayflower and Yishun as the terrain there is relatively steep and hence would be difficult for anyone to conduct a search.

Unreliable evidence: Eyewitnesses are unreliable, they could have misidentified the suspects/vehicle. Plus they may have been at the building 'Jurong Point' 30km west of Outram (hence 'west Singapore'), which is completely different from the 'Jurong Point' much nearer Ang Mo Kio. The two malls with the same name are actually 220km apart as the crow flies, which they could not possibly cover with their vehicle in just 20 mins (or even an hour). In any case they may not have stopped anywhere but instead simply drove past the mall towards the highway so that they could make a getaway. Prime suspect: The younger Goyle son. Fingernail scrapings peaks do not match either parent or the older son. However, all the peaks present in fingernail scrapings (individually) are present in either Mr or Mrs Goyle. As the peaks correlate to the DNA of the person who did it, it would most likely be the younger Goyle son. (Not surprisingly really, as the family was related to Slytherin.) Predicted sequence of events: The younger Goyle son was in the apartment probably pretending to act in a civil manner as he wanted to resolve the issue that may have been aggravating the landlord. Resident woman let him in and had a coffee with him as they tried to negotiate matters. Unable to come to an agreement, he pushed her over in anger, which caused the coffee to spill and stain the place. The fight then started next to the ashtray at the West Wall but adjourned towards the North Wall, probably because the victim was trying to escape from being murdered or injured further. But the broken window as well as the location of the corpse indicates that a few minutes later, the attacker successfully killed the victim. It is shown through the blood splatter and the direction of convergence of each blood splatter; it gives the impression that the victim was lying down at the time of death. This death happened at around 10pm based on the rectal temperature and stiffness of various body parts, which ties in well with what Witness 1 noticed. The vehicle they used was probably a modified landrover. This is to tie in with their escape plan from their murder; it is likely that Mr or Mrs Goyle was the driver, had already loaded the vehicle with food and other supplies that could help last them the duration of their escape (including the weapon that they threw out of the window, depending on where it was parked). A landrover was used as it could navigate through

rough terrain such as the steep wilderness to the east of Ang Mo Kio and Mayflower. It would also help in enduring the high crosswinds from the South as they navigated the unforgiving terrain (which may explain how the temperature inside the apartment was still 25 C: from the outside corridor s heating). However, the Goyle sons may have stopped over at Jurong Point on the way as they forgot some of their essentials, or possibly to top up on fuel at a nearby petrol station. After that, they sped off, initially following the highway but veering off onto the steep slopes and into the forest to avoid detection. It is possible they would have headed to Ruritania via Yishun and Marsiling since law enforcement there was weaker and hence they would be more likely to avoid detection. Upon reaching Ruritania, they would continue along the highway to K&K Country Club and Resort, where they would stay in comparative luxury until the next murder/suicide case. Thanks! Long live the Gem Box! There is a slim chance that Peter and Gregory were the sons involved (not sure who is the older one though), in which case they may have gotten materials to cast potions and a Wifi set to allow more Clash of Clans to be played. And in which case, the murder itself could also be explained through Sectumsempra and Apparation.
