W eek 13 Great Tew School New sletter Last Saturday's Christmas Fair was a wonderful occasion enjoyed by us all. The school looked beautiful draped in garlands of light and it was lovely to see so many people there all having fun whilst raising money for the school. A huge thank you goes to everyone involved in so many different ways from baking to decorating collecting or providing prizes to running stalls grilling to wrapping administrating to elving and of course to all of you who came along spent your money and enjoyed yourselves! It was very much a team effort with everyone playing their part - a wonderful way for the school community to get together and enjoy themselves whilst raising money for the school. We are delighted to have raised a massive 4806.66 for the school. Comi ng Up Sat 1st Page 1/ 5 7t h Dec 20 18

New s from Reception Page 2/ 5 We had a lot of fun creating some wonderful crafts for Christmas! M any thanks to Theo's mum and Lily Clarke' s mum for their help on M onday; all that glitter was far too much for M rs M unson and I to handle alone! Our focus in Letters and Sounds this week has been on the sound / f/ ; be sure to ask for an explanation of the action that goes with this one! Later in the week we found that sometimes 'f ' and 'f ' become best friends and play together at the end of words like huff and puff. This led us to read 'The Three Little Pigs' with much joining in of the repeated refrains. In maths our attention turned to the language that we use to directly compare the amounts in two sets more most less least and few. We explored the meaning of few fewer and fewest as this was a new collection of words for many children and is an important mathematical term to master. We then moved on to find the number that is one more or one less than a given number using sets of objects and number tracks. It would benefit the children to consolidate this concept at home. New s From Years 1 & 2 This week has been rather full on as we've had both assessment week and Nativity play rehearsals. The children have cheered every time I announce another assessment and enthusiastically get stuck in. M aths equipment has been flying out of the cupboard as the children have been self-selecting the resources they think will give them the best support. Year 2 children ran out of 10s sticks as they all needed them at the same time until one bright spark announced you could pretend pencils and rulers were 10s sticks. That solved the resources problem! Our English writing assessment was based on instruction writing so wanting to keep things seasonal and interactive we made Christmas decorations and then wrote a set of instructions for others to follow. Our classroom is now awash with glitter and M rs Woodward has also received compliments on her glittery face. As for how our Nativity play rehearsals have been going you'll find out on Tuesday!

In M aths the children have been perfecting their times tables and division knowledge. They have completed Online Turbo and the new M arathon times table challenges this week. They have used their multiplication skills to crack some tricky Christmas Codes. The children certainly rose to the challenge of playing Hockey in very wet conditions on Wednesday afternoon. They kept their sense of humour and enthusiasm throughout the session although we were all covered in mud by the end of the afternoon! St ars of the Week Well done to the follow ing child ren who have been show ing a Grow th M indset towards their learning both in and out of the classroom s. This week's Good M anners' Champion is Tabetha in Reception. Tabby's manners are always immaculate; she never interrupts adults or other children she is gentle and polite in her approach and she will always ask "M ay I start eating?" before tucking in to her snack or her lunch! Tabby has an unfailingly upbeat attitude both in the classroom and the playground and this is infectious to others. The children told us: Tabby plays with lots of different children and she'll compromise in her games; she is always happy to talk to us when we talk to her; Tabby isn't shy and she joins in our conversations; she is kind and caring and never leaves people out; Tabby never says no but always lets people join in and play her games too; I've never seen Tabby in an argument; Tabby plays with lots of different children. Well done Tabby you do have lovely manners towards everyone and you are good at including everyone in your games. w ar d s A t F n i o P e ivi W il li am V m o + Hous T n Fra ar d : Br onze A w Florence W Reception Theo - for really conc entrating and focusing during play rehearsals joining in w ith all the singing Years 1 & 2 Oscar - for being very enthusiasti c and resili ent tow ards his learning and very smiley too!
