Show report from Shar Crichton Scotia Cat Club Show 19.9.09 My thanks to show managers Sarah Davidson and Catherine Ekanger for the invitation and to the club for their excellent hospitality. The new venue was a pleasant change and I was happy to meet Fiona Paterson who kindly agreed to steward for me. Many thanks for your help and careful handling of the exhibits, Fiona. Hope we can work together again soon. OPEN CLASSES AC Bicolour Adult Male 1 CC Campbell s BARNMOUR THE PATRIOT A cream and white boy who was a year and a half old. Good type with cobby body shape with a large well rounded rump, short squat legs with fat rounded paws with very good feathering. Broad top of head with neat well placed, round tipped ears that had long ear furnishings. Full cheeks with a broad muzzle and a strong balanced chin. The nose was broad and short with a full pink nose leather and good size nasal openings and he had a scissor bite. Large eyes, well rounded in shape had deep orange eye colour. The coat was very soft and long, fairly full with a short bushy tail that was completely cream in colour. The body was mainly white with a totally white underside. He had a cream patch that was a pale shade over his shoulders and a cream patch on the lower rump region that had a fair number of scattered white hairs that tended to spoil the overall appearance a little. A gentle cat who handled well on the day and was well presented. AC Bicolour Adult Female 1 CC and BOB Hamilton s LEMASH CLEMENTINE A one year old red and white girl with good type and excellent physique for a female. Well grown and very cobby in shape, with a broad chest, well rounded rump on short thick legs with nicely rounded paws. Excellent head width that was very wide and had well set ears of small size. The upper part of the face was red and was a richer shade over the top of head while the lower face and muzzle were white with a strong red chin. Well rounded large eyes had super deep copper colour and lovely expression. The nose was very broad and short with a good nose break and full pink nose leather. The cheeks were fat and chubby and her muzzle had plenty of width and she had a scissor bite. The coat was lovely, being long, soft and very dense with a long white frill framing the face. Fluffy trousers and a very short bushy tail that was fully red completed her attire. The body was mainly white with a white underside and with a red butterfly shaped patch over her shoulders. Coat presentation was excellent and she was a delight to handle. 1

Red, Cream, Tortie Smoke Neuter 1 PC and BOB Smith s PR WOOSY UMPH-N-PUFF A large well built cobby cream smoke boy with good body weight and who was just over two years old. He has pleasing persian type with strong head shape, broad chest and rounded rump set on tree trunk legs with fat paws. I loved his huge round eyes which had excellent deep copper colour and lovely expression. The ears were well sited far apart on the head and were of small size with medium length ear feathering. The cheeks were fat and the muzzle had good width with a strong chin and a not quite level bite. A short nose had a strong nose break and a full pink nose leather with good size nostrils. He was not in full coat but what he had was well presented and was soft and long. It was of a medium shade of cream with the tipping of cream pigment covering just over two thirds of the hair shaft and it was clearly showing the white undercoat throughout head and body. He had a frill around the shoulders, framing his face and the tail was short and fluffy. A good natured boy who was well presented. Chocolate/Lilac Birman Kitten 1 and BOB McGowan s ESAYA DREAM LOVER OF DYFRIG A chocolate babe of five months of age with very good type having a firm well grown body with medium height legs and short paws. He had a broad rounded head with good face width. The nose was of medium length and had a slight dip at the nasal bridge with a chocolate nose leather. The cheeks had good width for a kitten and the chin was nicely tapering and firm. The bite was perfectly level. The ears were spaced far apart on the head and were of medium size. The eyes were almost round and were a good mid blue colour that was slightly two tone at present and had a lovely birman expression. The coat was lovely and of a clear ivory shade and having a soft silky texture. The points were well matching but of a darker shade of chocolate rather than a milk chocolate shade but were matching well on the ears but just a little paler on the tail and limbs. The mask was not yet fully formed but was strong over the nose and part of the cheeks and was developing well. The gloves were neat, pure white and matching and only very slightly scalloped. The socks were almost level but the left one was marginally lower and both feet were clean and had excellent perfectly matching gauntlets that tapered neatly and reaching almost to the hock. The tail was in proportion to the body length and was well furnished. A delightful promising boy kitten. Red, Cream or Tortie Birman Kitten 1 and BOB McGowan s DYFRIG FOREST FLAME A red birman baby who was nearly six months old with good type and was of a good size and weight for her age. Medium size body had a strong rounded head shape, medium height legs with short strong paws. The ears were spaced well apart and were of medium size. The eyes had excellent deep blue eye colour and were almost fully round with good expression. Her 2

nose was of medium length and had a slight dip in profile with a slight nose bump at its tip and a full pink nose leather. The cheeks were developing good width and the chin was firm and slightly tapered and she had a bite that was level. Her coat was lovely and clear being a pale cream shade with a soft very silky texture and a good length. Her mask was developing well and was an orange red shade matching the colour of the ears and the tail which was balanced in length and well furnished. The fore limbs had a faint amount of barring which hopefully will disappear as she get older. The foot markings were pure white and clearly visible against the pale cream fur. The gloves were well matching and level across the paw but were just a touch low on the upper surface and dipping slightly at the sides. The socks were not quite level having the left one marginally shorter while the gauntlets were of a good length reaching almost to the hock and were a little blunt and rounded in shape but perfectly matching. A well presented girl with a sweet nature. MISCELLANEOUS CLASSES AC Champion Female 1 Craig and Bell s CH SHEERBLISS MIRROR IMAGE A two year old tortie tabby and white exotic girl that I have long admired. Not a big girl but she is solid and firm with a strong cobby body shape. Well rounded very broad top of head with good width between the ears which were tiny, fully red and well rounded at the tips. Very sweet facial expression having large rounded eyes with super deep copper colour that do not come much deeper and encircled by pale spectacles. A very broad short nose with a strong stop and a pink nose leather. The muzzle was white and broad and her chin was strong and deep. The upper part of the face was tabby and overlaid with tortie colours being half reddish and half black tabby. She had fat chubby cheeks with tabby pencilling, headlines over the top of head and a scissor bite. The bib and underside were white with coloured tabby spots on her tummy while her back had good tabby patches that were very large and brightly coloured with tortie shades of red. All four paws were white and she had a short thick well ringed tail. The coat was dense and had a plush velvety texture although she was moulting a little. A dear cat with a sweet temperament who was well shown. AC Persian Non-Self Kitten Male 1 McClusky s JENZJEWELS SPOILT FOR CHOICE A very lovely red colourpoint kitten of five months who was my take home kitten of the day! A beautiful boy with fabulous well balanced type who was well grown for his age with a very cobby persian body shape set low on short sturdy legs. Excellent head shape that was very broad and had well spaced ears that were tiny and nicely rounded at the tips. Beautiful rounded eyes of large size with good blue eye colour and lovely gentle expression. The depth of blue eye colour is not one often seen in this breed and in this exhibit was so striking against the colour of the red mask. The nose was very broad and short with a well formed 3

stop and a full pink nose leather with good size nasal openings. The muzzle already had plenty of width, the cheeks were full and rounded and he had a strong balanced chin with a perfect level bite. The points were very even in colour being a rich shade of red and were well matched on the face, ears and tail. The coat was very long and full, with fluffy trousers and a beautiful short bushy tail. Show preparation was exemplary and so was his temperament. Later, I saw he went on to be best in show longhair which was an award that was justly deserved. Congratulations! A very promising boy whose progress I shall watch with interest. 2 Craig and Bell s SHEERBLISS LEONARDO A silver mackerel tabby exotic boy who was just four months of age and unlucky to meet the winner of this class as he is a kitten with very good type. Cobby boy with a solid firm body set on short thick legs. Strong head shape with good width between the ears which were spaced far apart and were tiny with well rounded tips. Short snub nose had a good nose break, small black nose leather but with good size nostrils. Fat chubby cheeks with a good width of muzzle, firm deep chin and a scissor bite. The eyes were large and fully round in shape and had very muddy eye colour at present but look as though they will be a very good copper colour later. The tabby markings were good as he had a coat that was silver in all areas with dense black tabby markings. There were pale spectacles around the eyes, a spotted muzzle and good face and head markings. The back had a single unbroken line along the spine with incomplete lines running on either side and thin lines running down his body sides. The tummy had plenty of tabby spots and there was good barring on his legs and faint necklaces around his neck. The coat texture was very thick and plush and the tail was short and very thick with excellent tabby rings. A good natured kitten who handled well. 3 Gibb s BARNMOUR ROMEO ATSUMSTORM A blue silver tabby exotic boy of seven months with pleasing type and a pale silvery blue ground colour overlaid with blue tabby markings. Strong head shape with fairly neat ears that were well set. Large eyes with deep orange eye colour. Short nose with a strong nose break and full blue nose leather with large nostrils. Strong chin, broad muzzle and a slightly undershot bite that were very slightly off centre. The coat was soft and dense with a good plush texture showing clear tabby spots throughout and he had a well ringed short tabby tail. A gentle cat with a sweet temperament who was well shown. AC Persian Non-Self Kitten Female 1 Craig and Bell s SHEERBLISS MYSTICAL CHARM A tortie silver tabby and white exotic girl aged four months with a solid firm compact body, cobby in shape and set low on short thick legs with fat rounded paws. Strong head shape that was rounded and had very neat ears spaced well apart on the skull. Large eyes of round shape had muddy eye colour at present which should be a good copper shade later and showing pale 4

tabby spectacles. A very short snub nose had a good stop and a very small pink nose leather that I would have liked to be larger and which however had large well opened nostrils. The muzzle was showing tabby spots and was broad and she had full cheeks and a very strong deep chin with a scissor bite. The coat was soft and dense with a good plush texture and had excellent classic tortie tabby markings overlying a pale silvery ground colour. The head had a clear M on the forehead, pencilling on the cheeks and head lines running over the top of head. The muzzle and chin were white and she had a white bib and underside with the tummy having numerous tabby spots. The back had a central red spine line running down the full length of the body with two black lines on either side while the body sides had classic tabby patterning. The tail was short and very thick and had clear tabby rings. A sweet kitten with lots of promise. 2 Smith s LEVINA CINDERELLA A pretty blue cream and white kitten of four months who was a good size for her age and who had a good persian type with correct cobby shape and short diddy legs. Her head had plenty of width with tiny ears that were set far apart and which had long ear feathers. The eyes were fully round and were of medium size and could have been larger and had very promising muddy eye colour. The top of the head was blue and she had a tiny white spot on the nose above the nose leather which was very small and pink and had tiny nostrils that I would have liked to be larger. The lower face was mainly white over the cheeks which were full and round and she had a cream muzzle that was broad and a strong balanced blue chin. The bib and underside were fully white and she had blue and cream patches over the shoulder region and a completely white rump. The coat was long and full with fluffy trousers and ending with a short bushy tail that had alternating blue and cream patches. A good natured baby who was well presented. AC Persian Non-Self Neuter Male 1 Smith s PR WOOSY UMPH-N-PUFF 2 Hawthorne s SHEERBLISS VOULEZ VOUS A red silver tabby and white exotic boy who was just over a year old. A very solid well grown chap who was a good weight and who obviously enjoys his food! He was cobby and had a thick neck and well rounded rump set on short tree trunk legs. Strong rounded head of good width had neat ears set well apart. His eyes were large and fully round and had wonderful deep copper colour. A short snub nose had a strong break and a full pink nose leather with full size nostrils. The lower facial area had a white inverted V on the lower muzzle while the upper part of the face was silvery red and showing clear tabby patterning with an M on the forehead, pencilling on the cheeks and clear head lines running over the top of head. The bib and underside of the body were white but the back was somewhat solid in colour and was a richer shade of red while the body sides were showing clear classic tabby 5

markings. The tail was short and thick. The coat was dense and stood out well from the body although he was moulting a little. A good natured boy. 3 Elliott s PR STARSPANGLE GLITZY BOLAN A very handsome chinchilla that I have judged many times before and who still will not allow himself to be handled at the shows which is such a shame! I have nothing more to add to my former reports. AC Persian Non-Self Neuter Male 1 Dembski s GR CH LINDENLEA VANILLA A huge blue and white bicolour girl over six years of age who had a very cobby body with heavy weight, broad and with a large rounded rump set on short thick legs that had fat well feathered paws. She had a very full long coat with a deep frill around the shoulders and a short bushy tail. Her ears were well placed on top and were of medium size. The eyes were fully round and had deep orange eye colour but she looked a little heavy browed today on account of much dead hair overhanging the eyes. The nose was extremely short with a tiny pink nose leather that had very small nostrils which I would have liked to be larger. The muzzle had good width and had an inverted white chevron covering the lower face which had fairly full cheek width. The chin was firm, strong and was fully blue and she had a scissor bite. She had a white bib and underside and a thin white collar round her neck while most of her back was a sound mid blue shade and with a white patch on her left flank. The tail was short, very bushy and fully blue. A well presented girl with perfect show manners. 2 Furey s GR CH CLARITY TALKOFTHETOWN This cat was a seal colourpoint who was in excellent condition for her age of ten years! She was a big girl of a good weight, of solid build and had a strong head of good width. The ears were sited far apart and were small and neat. Her eye colour was a deep shade of blue and they were large and well rounded in shape. A medium length nose had a slight dip at the nasal bridge and had a full size seal nose leather with good nostril openings. The cheeks were fairly full and she had a firm chin and a perfect level bite. The mask was a dark seal brown and covered the face fully as well as matching the other points on ears, tail and body. The coat was lovely and beautifully soft in texture and was shady over the shoulders which is not unexpected in a cat of this age. The tail was of medium length and could have been better furnished at this time. Show preparation was perfect and she had a very sweet gentle nature. AC Senior Neuter Male 1 Smith s GR PR WOOSY JIGGLI WIGGLI A blue persian boy who was almost six and a half years of age and who had very good type. He was a handsome big fellow with a massive physique who was very cobby in shape and needed good muscles to lift him out of the pen! Very broad head shape had widely placed 6

ears of small size which were well feathered. Large fully round eyes had deep orange eye colour and pleasing expression. The nose was broad but also very short with a full blue nose leather and generous size nasal openings. The muzzle was wide and had fat whisker pads. The cheeks were full and he had a strong chin and a scissor bite. His coat was fairly full and of a good length and was of a mid shade of blue showing some dark guard hairs at present but otherwise very even in colour. The trousers were fluffy and he had a fully furnished short tail. Show manners were very good and he was well presented and in excellent condition for his age. 2 Elliott s PR STARSPANGLE GLITZY BOLAN. AC Senior Neuter Female 1 Furey s GR CH CLARITY TALKOFTHETOWN Ac Limit Neuter 1 Carmichael s CH TAMOSAH CARLY A chinchilla girl of three years of age who has fairly good type but who was a little edgy when handled. She is of medium size and fairly cobby in shape with a cobby squat body set low on short sturdy legs. Neat ears with silvery ear feathers were sited far apart on the head which was of good width and had a well rounded forehead. Large round eyes had very good blue green eye colour and were edged with black. A short snub nose had a full deep pink nose leather edged with dark brown. She had fully formed cheeks and a firm chin with a scissor bite. The chin, bib, chest and underside were pure white and the coat was long and fairly dense although not at its fullest with a pure white undercoat and was tipped with black on the head, back and tail. It was fairly even on the head and upper part of the back but much denser on her flanks, rump and tail which was short and well furnished. 2 Campbell s DEDANNAN BLUE BOY BLUE A blue exotic boy who is just a year old and who appears to be still going through an adolescent stage. Body was firm and solid and of a good size with fairly short legs. He had a good broad top of head with neat ears that were a little pointed and sitting a little proud on top and needing to settle. The eyes were large and fully round with mid-orange eye colour and a pleasing expression but showing a slight green rim in the hall which had good daylight. The nose was very short and had a very strong nose break and a blue nose leather. The chin was deep and firm and he had slightly undershot bite. The coat was dense and plush even though he was moulting at the time and stood out well from the body. It was a steel blue shade and was quite sound throughout. The tail was short and thick and in proportion to the body length. A good natured fellow who handled well. AC Radius Neuter 1 Elliott s PR STARSPANGLE GLITZY BOLAN 7

AV Breeder s Kitten Male 1 Wright s POWERKATZ HERO 64 41w M 20.12 08 An eight month old brown tabby and white boy who I have judged several times before and who is developing very well. He has excellent physique being a very large cat who is heavy and very muscular with strong legs with good boning supporting a truly rectangular body which had a broad chest, thick muscular neck and a square shaped rump. The paws were large, solid and rounded with short white tufts. Head of medium length had tall ears that were well placed, slightly pointed and which were open at the base but sitting high with black ear tufts and lighter short ear feathering. The profile was correct having a shallow curve at the nasal bridge with a nose of uniform width and showing a slight nose bump at the tip and a full pink nose leather. Large eyes with yellowish green eye colour which were fully round, set slightly oblique in the face and had clear paler tabby spectacles. A white blaze ran up his forehead and there was an inverted white V on the muzzle which was fairly square and could get even better as he matures. The cheeks had good width and he had a firm tabby chin and a perfect level bite. He had a white collar and the bib, underside of the body were also white. All four feet had white socks which covered the upper parts of the leg well. A frontal ruff was starting to develop and he had shaggy breeches and a very long well furnished tail reaching easily to the shoulders and tapering gently at the tip. Tabby markings were very clear on the head and were dense black overlying a rich copper agouti ground colour and the coat had an overall warm shade. There was a clear M on the forehead, eye lines and good headlines running over the top of head. A butterfly was present over the shoulders and the back appeared to be a little solid black at first but on stroking the coat did show there were three black unbroken spine lines. His sides had classic tabby markings and there was clear barring on the upper legs. A gentle giant cat who was very relaxed and regal. 2 Wright s POWERKATZ EVOLUTION 64 41sw M 20.12.08 It would appear that this boy has the same birthday as the winner of the class and he is a large well grown classic silver tabby and white cat with a solid firm heavy body that was long and with a rectangular shape with a muscular long neck, broad chest and a rump that was square. The legs were substantial, well boned and muscular with large tufted paws. The head was of medium length and had tall ears, with excellent silver ear tufts and pale feathering, set high on the head and open at the base but could have been more pointed at the tips for perfection. Large round eyes with yellowish green colour were set far apart, slightly oblique and circled with clear pale spectacles. The nose was of uniform width and had a shallow curve at the nasal bridge and a deep pink nose leather edged with black. The muzzle was fairly square and was showing tabby spotting. The cheeks were fairly full with high cheek bones and his chin was firm and the bite was level. The muzzle and chin were white and he had a white bib and 8

underside. His top coat was glossy and the frontal ruff was still developing. He had shaggy fur on the tummy and breeches. The tail was long and well furnished reaching easily to the shoulders and showing clear tabby rings. It was long, flowing and tapered gently towards the end. Tabby markings were excellent and were a dense black over a silver agouti ground. Head markings were very clear with an M on the forehead, eye lines running back and head lines running over the top of head. There was a perfect butterfly over the shoulders, clear oysters on his flanks and three unbroken spine lines running down his back. The legs had clear tabby barring and all four feet had white socks. A cat who enjoyed being handled and who was very friendly. 3 Breslin s HOLLYGRAM ROYAL PRINCE A seal pointed bicolour ragdoll of five months of age. Well built kitten who had a broad head with a flat plane and well set ears of medium size, open and set wide. Large eyes with good blue eye colour, set slightly oblique and far apart. Rounded cheeks and a white muzzle with a firm white chin and a good level bite. The nose was white, of medium length and had a gentle dip and a slightly retrousee tip with a pink nose leather. The coat was beige, slightly shady in the mid back region and on the flanks. The points were seal brown and were well matched on the upper face, ears and the tail which was long and bushy. The mask had a white inverted chevron with straight sides starting on the forehead and extending down the nose, whisker pads and chin. The bib and underside and all front legs were white. The coat was soft and had a lovely texture. A well presented kitten with a good nature. AV Breeders Kitten Female 1 McGowan s DYRIG FOREST FLAME 2 Casey s SPIRRITZ SANDPIPER 64 41w F 22.01.09 A seven month old brown tabby and white maine coon girl with a well developed body size that was long with a rectangular shape, a fairly long neck and ending with a square shaped rump. Body was well supported by four well boned legs that were strong and had white socks on all four feet with rounded paws that had short tufts. Medium length head had tall pointed ears, set high on top and which had very long black ear tufts and paler ear feathering covering the open bases. The profile had a shallow curve along its length and the nose was of uniform width with a full pink nose leather edged with brown. The muzzle was well formed for a female being square and showing tabby spots on the whisker pads. She had high cheek bones, a firm balanced chin and a good level bite. The eyes were round, large and were set slightly oblique and had yellowish green colour, with black outlines, surrounded by clear spectacles and with a pleasing expression. The lower part of the face was white as was the bib but the underside had only a small white patch. The coat was short over the head and neck and a frontal ruff was developing. The fur was longer over the trunk region and shaggy on her 9

tummy and legs. The tail was long, flowing, just reaching to the shoulders and had strong tabby rings along its length. The legs had clear barring and the tabby markings were distinct on the upper head region and on the shoulders where there was a clear butterfly. The back, however, was solid black in colour and was lacking spine lines but the black fur had individual hairs with agouti banding present which may develop the correct pattern later. A confidant kitten who is developing well. AV Debutante Neuter 1 Fletcher s SUVICOON JEDEDIAH 64 41 MN 16.12.08 A nine month old brown tabby adult who was of well grown and of a good weight for his age. Body shape was very long and rectangular, with a broad chest and a good square shaped rump. The legs were strong, well muscled and had large round paws with good tufts. The head was of medium length and had ears that were wide at the base and were tall, pointed and set high on the head with very good long black tufts and paler ear feathers. The nose was of uniform width and had a shallow curve at the nasal bridge and had a full pink nose leather edged with brown. He had large eyes that were almost round in shape and set slightly oblique in the face with yellowish eye colour encircled with black rims and pale tabby spectacles. The cheeks were fairly full and he had a good bite and a firm chin. The muzzle had tabby spots and was fairly square. An excellent very long tail, well furnished and tapering towards the tip, reached his shoulders and had tabby rings on its underside but was a solid black on the upper surface. The coat was glossy and was shorter on his head but he had shaggy tummy fur, a fully formed ruff and excellent breeches. There were strong tabby markings present all over the body which were a dense black over a warm copper agouti ground. Head markings were all present with an M, headlines, eye lines and pencilling on the cheeks. An excellent clear butterfly was present on his shoulders as well as body stripes and barring on his limbs but his back was somewhat solid black. A well mannered gentle cat who was happy to be handled. 2 Rush s GOLDSTAR CRÈME DELA CRÈME 64 28 FN 15.5.06 A three year old blue cream maine coon girl who had a medium size body that was solid, muscular and rectangular in shape. Her legs were large and strong and had rounded paws lacking full tufts at present. Medium length head had well opened ears that were large and could have been sitting taller on the head and were lacking ear tufts at present. Her nose had the correct shallow curve in profile and was of uniform width. It had a deep pink nose leather that was edged with brown. Expressive large round eyes were spaced well apart and had a slight oblique setting in the face with pretty greenish yellow eye colour. The chin was firm and she had a broad muzzle which appeared to be rather pale or even white as did the fur on her bib and both areas should have been showing both blue and cream. The coat was well 10

intermingled with both blue and cream over back and body generally and she had a glossy topcoat throughout. The fur was shorter on the head and neck but longer on the trunk and breeches and was full and shaggy. The tail was a little short barely reaching the shoulders and could have been longer for balance and preference but was well furnished and tapered towards the tip. AV Radius Neuter 1 Mc Geachy s SHAWCOON WEWILL ROCKYOU 64 44as FN 15.8.08 A female neuter who was entered as a classic blue silver tabby maine coon in my judges book but who I decided was a classic blue cream silver tabby girl as she had a definite large cream patch running up the nose and cream below her ears and on her sides which were sound to the base of the hairs and was not due to any tarnishing. Furthermore, she had paw pads that were both pink and blue. The tabby markings of blue and cream overlaid a silver agouti base. Body shape was rectangular and with good length ending with a square shaped rump. Head shape was of medium length and she had an excellent very square muzzle. The nose had a shallow curve at the nasal bridge and had a pink nose leather with a clearly outlined edge and was of uniform width. The cheeks were well filled and she had a firm chin and a level bite. The ears were tall and pointed with good ear tufts and paler ear feathers and were open at the base. Her eyes had yellowish eye colour and were set oblique in the face with paler tabby spectacles. Tabby markings on the body were rather diffuse and not very clear but were distinct on the face where she had an M on her forehead and good facial tabby lines. The coat was short over the head and neck but longer on the flanks and tummy and she had a long well furnished tail. She was not in a very good humour and so was not able to be studied as closely as required.
