Character Trait Character Trait for the Wolf follows. Purpose: Title: Lon Po Po (Shang) Characters? Shang, Tao, Paotze Mother, Po Po The Wolf Setting? China In the country Beginning Clever Ending Clever List the EVENTS on the back.

Events 1. When someone knocks at the door and claims to be the girls Po Po, Shang is suspicious because she knows their mom just left to visit their Po Po. Students may have fewer events than this, but as long as they move from one to the next in a way that makes sense, it is fine. There is no one right way. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Instead of opening the door, Shang asks lots of questions to help her figure out if it is their Po Po. After her sisters get impatient and open the door, Shang continues to be suspicious when their guest turns out the lights and climbs into bed. Shang figures out that it is a wolf when she touches his furry tail and his sharp claws, so she decides to play a trick on him. She convinces the wolf that there are gingko nuts on top of the tree outside, and that one bite will make you live forever. Shang offers to help the wolf get to the top of a tree by having the girls climb to the top and pull him up in a basket. Shang gets the wolf to trust her, and then she and her sisters drop the basket so the wolf dies. Sample Introductory Sentence In the story Lon Po Po, Shang is very clever. Sample Concluding Sentence As you can see, Shang s cleverness helps her to turn the tables on the wolf. (example of figurative language)

Next follows a Character Analysis of the Wolf. (It is also an example of Cause-Effect because the wolf changes from beginning to end of the story.)

Character Trait The one is also Cause-Effect. Purpose: Title: Lon Po Po (The Wolf) Characters? Shang, Tao, Paotze Mother, Po Po The Wolf Setting? China In the country Cunning (shrewd, sly) Beginning In the beginning, the wolf is cunning when he tricks the girls into thinking he is their Po Po. Foolish Ending At the end, the wolf is foolish because he lets the girls play a trick on him. List the EVENTS on the back.

Events 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. The wolf sees the girls mother leave, disguises himself as an old woman, and pretends to be their Po Po. Even though Shang is suspicious, the wolf answers all of her questions and is let into the house. When Shang secretly figures out their guest is really a wolf, she decides to play a trick on him. Shang tells the wolf that there are gingko nuts on the top of the tree outside their door, and one bite will make you live forever. The wolf wants those nuts so badly that he doesn t realize Shang is playing a trick on him. The wolf trusts the girls to get him to the top of the tree so he can live forever, but the girls drop the basket and the wolf dies. Sample Introductory Sentence In the story Lon Po Po, the wolf changes from being very cunning to being very foolish. Sample Concluding Sentence As you can see, greed can make a clever wolf become foolish!
