: Queen and leader of the lionesses. Looking for a strong actress to portray Mufasa's wife and Simba's mother, who is kind, gentle and loving. She's also wise to her little son's tricks. Courageous Sarabi holds her own through Scar's destructive rule, despite mourning the loss of her husband. She is filled with pride when her son comes back to battle the evil ruler and claim his rightful place as King. This role is perfect for an actoress who can deliver the care and command of a queen. Strong alto voice. SCENES:, and (Note: If there is time) and SONG: There is no formal singing callback at this time, although please note that in performance is in a featured trio with Young Nala and Rafiki during The Mourning
and {Ahh Youth } ( weaves in and out of the LIONESSES, looking for his best friend YOUNG NALA. The two cubs play together almost every day. She is his greatest and most trusted friend. They climb trees, wrestle and race across the plain. Now he can t wait to tell her about the elephant graveyard! couldn t tell her HOW he knew, but he sure could tell her WHAT he knew. is discovered trying to imitate her mother SARAFINA and the other adult LIONESSES.) Hey, Nala! 1 (Flatly. Trying to concentrate.) Hi, Simba. Come on! I just heard about this great place. Simba I m going hunting with my mother! This is a place your mother would never go! So where is it? It better not be any place lame! ( and SARAFINA are intrigued them.) No. It's really cool. [Turn.] So.where is this "really cool" place? THE LIONESSES Simba? Oh hi-ya, Mom 1 NOTE: Develop a signature greeting for and that can be used by the actors playing adult SIMBA and NALA as well.
(Lying.) It s around the uh... water hole. (Cont d) (Unimpressed.) The water hole? What's so great about the water hole? (Through gritted teeth.) I'll show you when we get there. (Whispering. 2 Getting it.) Ohhhh. (Normal volume to SARAFINA.) Uh... Mom, can I go with Simba? SARAFINA Hmm... I don t know. What do you think, Sarabi? Do you think it s safe with the hyenas running around loose? Well, Sarafina... / (Through broad, forced cheesy grins.) Pleeeease? It's all right with me... ( and are overjoyed and make a break for it.) All right! Yeah! /...As long as Zazu goes with you. ( and stop freeze from their celebration. Crestfallen. Shoulders slump.) Aw, no! Not Zazu! 2 Stage Whisper - a loud whisper uttered by an actor on stage, intended to be heard by the audience but supposedly unheard by other characters in the play.
and Half the King [The mood of the scene darkens when enters with a pack of HYENAS and climbs Pride Rock. Left on his own with unlimited power, no longer tries to hid his evil streak. He is dark and menacing as he calls for and audience with, SIMBA s mother.] [His voice echoes across the Pridelands.) Sarabiiiiiiiiiiii! ( enters walking the gauntlet of hostile HYENAS from the back of the crowd to the front with head held high. Nobody moves. They HYENAS stare ominously. An eerie wind whooshes across the plain -- ascends Pride Rock. The HYENAS snap at her heels. She only glares disdainfully at them. Lightning and thunder strikes in the distance.) Yes, Scar? Where is your hunting party? They're not doing their job. (Calmly.) Scar, there is no food. The herds have moved on. No! You're just not looking hard enough! It's over, Scar. There is nothing left. We have only one choice. We must leave Pride Rock. We're not going anywhere. Then you are sentencing us to death. Then so be it! (Disgusted, amazed.) You can't do that!
I m the King! I can do whatever I want! If you were half the king Mufasa was! [You would never do...] ( lunges at, knocking her to the ground and she cowers to the ground as he straddles her to continue. SHENZI, BANZAI and ED return as SIMBA emerges.) I am ten times the King Mufasa was! (The other animals fall silent as heat lightning flashes in the dark sky. The thunder becomes a roar.]
