Lynda and I have had a wonderful year playing with kids and grandkids. I don t know how we ever got anything done with little tykes underfoot. I swear Noah can crawl 0 miles an hour and never stops moving. Just like another little boy I remember. Lynda is looking at retirement, but her final date keeps moving back. I m not sure if she doesn t want to quit, or is afraid of too much hubby time. For the record..i absolutely refuse to make the garden any larger. I m glad we still like each other and she continues getting prettier every day, that makes married life pretty easy! Paisley Grace, 3 ½, is the sweetest little girl, and I am not at all biased. She thinks Grampy is wonderful and I am not going to tell her differently. She loves the cows, the horses and 4-wheelers. We have to race everywhere we go, with Eli joining in, of course. I have yet to win a race, those two can really run and grandpa doesn t have a chance. Steve and Bri have had a wild year with Bri receiving a promotion and Steve continuing to take on more work responsibility. Basketball has started for Paisley, and you can see the excitement in Steve s and Bri s eyes for her. Steve continues at Target Headquarters and Bri with the National Marrow Donor program. Elijah Todd is a bit past 3 now and likes anything that involves a ball or wheels. He loves to wrestle and tackle grandpa and won t quit until he is covered in sweat and his tickle is worn out. He also spends half of his time pulling up his pants like someone else I know. Grandpa taught him how to wink so look out young ladies! He is a cutie! Noah is already months old as I write this; he is starting to walk, crawling at a run, and absolutely full of energy. He loves to bounce and get thrown into the air. His favorite pastime is eating and it doesn t seem to matter what he eats! He is already trying to keep up with Eli and Paisley, and I m sure it won t be long. Michelle is on her second year as co-owner of Elkader Veterinary Clinic and Todd continues work with York Risk Services Group. He received a promotion this year to Senior Loss Control Specialist. Life has been busy with work and two little boys. They are excited to be moving to an acreage in March, away from town life with plenty of room for the kids to play! We appreciate all that Todd does with On the Hoof Media. Continue to watch our website and Facebook page for Todd s videos and updates. Lynda loves to babysit and jumps at every opportunity. Mostly she takes really good care of me, for that I am truly thankful! I am extremely fortunate to have the love, help and support of my family. As a father, it s especially rewarding to see my kids succeed. I m very proud of all their accomplishments. Special thanks to Lynda for making me a better person and for the great meal today. Our production partners have the same goals and commitment to producing superior seed-stock that we do. Please take the time to get to know each and every one of them. I would like thank them for all their hard work and dedication toward producing some of the best seed-stock available in the industry today. As always, all of the cattle selling are guaranteed to perform as expected or we ll fix it to your satisfaction. We encourage everyone to take advantage of our hospitality and join us Friday or Saturday for a showing of the bulls or tour of the cowherd. Please remember our servicemen in your thoughts and prayers as they continue to protect our rights and liberties. We look forward to seeing you February 2nd! 4 www.springersimmentals.com

Our list of helpers continues to grow. Lynda and I really appreciate each and every one of them. Natalie Knobloch is now a senior at Iowa State University pursuing a degree in elementary education. She is student teaching in Decorah, IA right now and continues to stop in for pie & ice cream and long visits. Alex Hansen has taken a position with John and Alicia Sandidge in Chandlerville, Ill. Alex is always smiling; he is a hard worker and a really great young man. We wish him all the best with a great new opportunity. Maddie Fitzgerald is continuing her quest to become a veterinarian at Iowa State University. Her photography business has exploded and pays much better than rinsing bulls. She is a very talented young lady who will succeed wherever life takes her. I think she can smell Lynda making pies from school in Ames, and we love that she stops in frequently to keep us up to date. Erin Ryan, in her second year with us, has become great help. She is always smiling, which is not always easy. She is a very hard worker and has confidence to do just about anything I give her. She works smart, and did I say she is always smiling? Erica Early is in her second year at North Iowa Community College and has returned to help us again. She is fantastic with cattle and an extremely hard worker. She must be a mind reader as she is always about two steps ahead of me. I really like that about her and think she will be extremely successful with whatever she chooses. August Storkel enrolled at North Iowa Community College this past fall and has become our newest helper. Augie rides bulls periodically and is tough as nails. A bull kicked him pretty hard when washing for pictures, he didn t back away and still put in about 14 hours that day and the next! I was impressed. I m not sure how many pies the kids have conned Lynda out of this year. I would guess it is approaching, although I certainly don t mind! Lynda loves to bake and has a lot of fun with all of the kids. She tends to kind of adopt them, which is great for them all. Mike Wilson continues to feed and treat the cattle like they are his own. He is very dedicated to doing a good job and always does whatever is needed, no matter how long it takes. I don t know what I would do without his help and really appreciate all that he does. Mike has really gotten into playing euchre this year, so Friday nights are reserved for that. He always has some stories to tell and claims he wins a lot! I would like to thank the Kimball family for all of their years of help and friendship. It takes a tremendous amount of work to make this successful and we could not have done it without them. Dan and Diane are very much enjoying being Grandpa and Grandma these days. About 7 more years and the grandkids will be showing so we can do it all again! 5% Discount for Beginning & Young Producers We believe the future of beef production lies in our youth! We are offering a 5% discount for all beginning and young producers! Requirements years of age or less 2 bulls maximum Must be purchased for use on your cows not for a friend or relative. We would like a picture of your family for future reference. Value Based Genetics 5

Yet possessing tremendous rib shape and muscle. Moving freely and with good base width, he was always easy to find in pasture checks, cresting early at 2 months of age and showing the promise of power he now possesses. His mother had twins last year, but did a fantastic job with both 046F and her first calf. Top % and top 4% combined with his outcross genetics make him a truly unique individual. Again, I would not be surprised to see his numbers increase with ultrasound data evaluation. It s rare to find this much power, performance and soundness combined with excellent genetic values, making this another bull that will find heavy use in our program! She is a beautiful female, moderate in type and beautiful uddered. Prince combines the fantastic looks and looseness of the Broker cattle with the power and muscle of the Bitten progeny. An unheard of 919lb 5 day weight. Yet, it is understandable when you see the power and muscle this guy possesses. To really power up your next calf crop and leave you with beautiful productive females Prince would be an investment you won t want to miss. 6 www.springersimmentals.com

DENVER PEN BULLS Lot 3 GB/SAS BITTEN F727 Kevin and Rod had the worst mud they have ever encountered last spring. Really got the calves off to a slow start and he doesn t creep feed. On feed these calves have exploded and F727 is really coming into himself. This has been a high producing, trouble free cow family! Another outcross to a lot of the US genetics. You have to really appreciate this bull for his exceptional depth of body and structural correctness. 3 GB/SAS BITTEN F727 Reg# 341 BD: 1/21/18 1.3 WW 71 3 M 9.5 MM 24 MWW Stay 27 -. The 634 cow family has been exceptionally consistent in Graessers herd in Dallas, SD. They are all big volume, beautiful uddered females. F634 is an outcross to all red genetics and certainly has the quality and cow family behind him to consider him a potential herdsire. Birthweights in SD are always 5- lbs heavier than here in Cresco. I think Kevin and Rod are just better feeders as the Angus calves are as well. This guy is really worth a look and consideration as a building block in your red herd program. Value Based Genetics 7

DENVER PEN BULLS Lot 5 SAS BITTEN F443 Perfect balance and symmetry best describe F443. He excels in rib shapes, muscle, large hooves and base width. Moves extremely well yet very heavily muscled. Superior performance, great genetic values and a herdsire presence make this guy a big time herdsire prospect. OUTCROSS TO ALL AMERICAN GENECS. This cow family is heavily represented in our herd, standing the test of time and reproduces very consistently. All family members possess beautiful udders, tremendous volume and rib shape and are very easy fleshing. I ll predict his marbling epd and consequently will increase greatly as we have enough US genetics in the mix this year to give the Bitten calves a realistic test. He will find heavy use in our program! 5 SAS BITTEN F443 BD: 1/22/18 1.4 WW 1 M 7.8 MM 17 MWW 59 Stay 26 -.46 Marb.04 -.13 REA.63 143 Reg# 3482891 4 COBRA 47Y ERIXON BITTEN NCB 3A 3 29661 BMD MISS BLK I DANR 5 HOLLY Z3 SAS SAS HOLLY X3 26487 ADG 3.91 /R: 91/98 WW/R: 8/114 Adj: 14 Bitten - Sire of lots 1-5 6 GB/SAS 612D F168 BD: 3//18 11 2.8 WW 78 111 M 7.2 MM 21 MWW Stay 21 22 -.44 Marb -.03 -.11 REA.64 129 71 Reg# 348 ERIXON BITTEN 3A SAS BITTEN D612 3167782 SAS DONELLA X612 SAS T1 SWEET MEAT AIMEE A168 SAS ASR LITTLE AIMEE Y168 28366 ADG 3. /R: 98/94 WW/R: 7/9 Adj: 1383 D612 - Sire of lot 6 Lot 6 GB/SAS 612D F168 A son of a previous high seller and Bitten son. The 612 cow family put a distinct and extremely desirable heavy muscle pattern into their progeny that allows them to stay sound. You can see by the picture how D612 maintained his flesh at the end of the breeding g season. F168 is one of my personal favorites with a puppy dog personality. He has the look of a herdsire and crested at an early age. He is line bred Sweet Meat and goes back to a really great cow from Altenburg Super Baldies. Sweet Meat progeny continue to be the gold standard to compare for overall longevity, mass and power. 8 www.springersimmentals.com

His carcass EPD s will be compared this year to some of the premier genetics in the breed. The Bitten females we have calved are extremely nice to be around. You can rest your hand on most of them or reach down to feel an udder to see if the calf has nursed. Udders are beautiful and they are wonderful mothers. I have to take my hat off to Yukon and Reload as well. Those females are the same way. We don t have EPD s or indexes for a lot of the things necessary for profit. Calf vigor and mothering ability would be at the top of my list. You can trust that those issues along with structural integrity and udder quality, to name a few, have been analyzed and culled appropriately. 26 years ago our family set out to invest in the genetic future of our herd, our goal was to increase our herd health and profitability. Our standards were high, and our list of priorities was long. We wanted something to cross our Angus cattle with that would provide growthier, bigger framed calves. We put a high priority on calves to be born with early vigor and thrive in their given environment. We required bulls that were docile in demeanor, held up well and were easy to keep. Not to be overlooked, we also needed service after the sale and a company with integrity that we could trust our livelihood with. Springer Simmentals genetics fit our herd goals. We put our trust in the Springer family and today we exclusively run of their bulls in our herd. The Springer Family has meet and exceeded all our priorities. We attribute our herd success with our decision to partner with Springer Simmentals. To protect your investment, Caitlin Insurance will be offered on your livestock purchase. It covers many of the hazards to a bull, including foot rot and injury that mortality insurance does not. We will pay 3% of the premium on your choice of policy, and if leaving your bull until May 1st would require at least the inexpensive policy be purchased. A representative will discuss different options just prior to the sale and answer any questions you may have. Springer Simmentals will continue to warranty your bulls for disposition, sound feet and legs and breeding soundness just as we have in the past. SAS BITTEN F441 Reg# 05472 BD: 4/5/18 - Tips for additional profits!! - I love delivering bulls and also stopping in throughout the year to see how the cattle work out. It is mostly for me to learn things and get to know our customers. BIF reported this year that weaning weights have been stagnant for the last years, yet the amount of creep feed sold has increased exponentially recently. There are three ways to increase weaning weights that I have come to realize that do not include buying commercial creep feed. 1: When rotational grazing raise the dividing fences so the calves can graze ahead into the next pasture, not the last. It s surprising how fast they learn this. This way the calves get the choice stuff before the cows come in. It increases weaning weights economically but not nearly as much as the dry hay. That lush grass doesn t have a lot of TDN, consequently a lot of the lush grass carries on through their stomach. 2: Creep feed with your own high quality hay. Green, fine hay is as appealing to any calf as purchased creep feed. Put it in a round bale feeder and use a hot wire to keep out the cows and let the calves in. Or spend an hour with your welder and make a creep gate that you can chain between an existing gate and corner post. I saw one made out of broken off steel posts that worked great. Hay gives them the perfect conditioning for maximum selling prices and makes weaning super easy and efficient. This one will give you as much extra weaning weight as any creep feed without getting the heifers too fat. 3: Buy Springer Simmental genetics. We concentrate on cattle that thrive on grass and select for as much weaning and yearling weight as possible without too much frame. REMINDER: I have a list of buyers looking for feeders sired by our genetics. Please call before you sell them and I will make them aware of the details of when and where you are selling.
