PRESENTERS Speaker DR STEPHEN FEARNSIDE BVSc (Hons) FACVSc (Surgery) DR PENNY TISDALL BSc(Vet) BVSc FANZCVS (Tutor) PROFESSOR GLENN EDWARDS BVSc MACVSc Dr. Stephen Fearnside graduated from The University of Sydney with Honours in 1995. On completion of his residency training, Stephen was appointed as the Head of the Small Animal Department at The University of Sydney Veterinary Teaching Hospital at Camden. In 2004, he was awarded his Fellowship in Small Animal Surgery and was also awarded with the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists award for best publication in the Australian Veterinary Practitioner in that year. He has served as a Fellowship Examiner in surgery for the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists and has lectured both undergraduates and postgraduates in Australia and overseas. Steve s particular interests are in cancer surgery (surgical oncology), surgical diseases of the spine, and canine arthroscopic surgery. Dr Penny Tisdall is a registered specialist in Small animal surgery. Penny graduated from the University of Sydney with a BSc(Vet) for studies on portosystemic shunts in dogs in 1992 and with a BVSc in 1994. After working for several years in private small animal practice in western Sydney she returned to the University of Sydney to complete a Small Animal Surgical Residency starting in 1997. Penny has completed a Clinical Masters in Aspects of Feline Megacolon and has contributed to over 25 published papers. She obtained Fellowship of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in 2002 by examination. Penny has worked exclusively in referral surgical practice for 15 years and is currently at Adelaide Veterinary Specialist and Referral Centre. She retains an active role in the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in the surgery Chapter. Dr Tisdall also has particular interests in feline and oncologic and reconstructive surgery. Glenn is Professor of Veterinary Surgery at Charles Sturt University following a period of 22 years as the academic head of surgery at the University of Melbourne s School of Veterinary Science. He teaches in all aspects of soft tissue surgery, but has a particular interest in minimally invasive surgery, wound healing and management, cardiovascular and urinary tract problems. He has published over 100 papers and chapters in textbooks in the veterinary, biomaterial and medical literature as a result of this work. He was the recipient of the 2006 TG Hungerford Award for Excellence in Post Graduate Education and has recently been awarded the ASAVA Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award.
