EXTRA! EXTRA! Call For Artists! The Modern Day Plymouth Coloring Book! The Plymouth Community Arts Council is excited to be teaming up with the Men's Book Club, a Plymouth service organization, to produce the modern day Plymouth Coloring Book. It is my understanding that this publication will be distributed in the Plymouth Second Grade classrooms after the first of the year 2019, which is also, coincidentally (or not!), the 50th Anniversary year of the founding of the PCAC by Joanne Winkleman Hulce and her art-loving friends. I am looking forward to being a part of this exciting endeavor, with history, education, local artists, families, teachers, business sponsors and service organizations all rolled into one big happy project. This will have a 2 year distribution and be introduced into the 2nd grade as a supplement to their local history Michigan social studies curriculum. Each 2-page spread will have an illustration with artist's signature, map, historically significant site name, simple text description, title and sponsor names. I would love to include as many local and member artists as we can. I have attached a sample illustration page. I want everyone to draw in their own style, black on white, with the intention of the image being colored by a second grader. I will be doing the layout and graphic design as well as coordinating the images chosen for each location. Some of the images for coloring will be a bit unconventional as we aim to keep our history fresh and exciting for our younger generation. So, not every building named will have a building to color, but perhaps the entry gate, or a tree with a story, along with its significance detailed in the second-grade-appropriate text. Locations will be noted on a coloring book map, so that families can go find these places or discover them in the course of their everyday life. Please let me know if you would like to be a part of this project which will have your signature and credit. We will have an initial meeting on September 18 from 7-8 pm at the Plymouth Community Arts Council. if you want to participate and cannot attend, we can correspond by email. All illustrations are due October 30 or before. You may choose to contribute one or more pieces. There will be a total of 22 drawings and 44 pages. Artists will all be volunteers, but will also receive recognition on our PCAC website and Facebook pages. A thank you dinner will be held at the Plymouth Community Arts Council after the new year. 13
