3 Join the Journey EXPLORE COMPLEMENTARY AND ALTERNATIVE VETERINARY MEDICINE I am excited to not only invite you to our 2018 AHVMA Annual Conference in Kissimmee (Orlando), Florida, but to specifically request your attendance! Each of us has literally dozens of opportunities to attend Continuing Education (CE) conferences every year. And, while we work to balance time away from work, financial considerations, and family obligations, how do we decide which conferences to attend? A common reason, simply stated, is to fulfill the state s CE requirements in a financially affordable way. But we all know there is more to it than that. The last line of the Veterinary Oath states: I accept as a lifelong obligation the continual improvement of my professional knowledge and competence. This is our opportunity to fulfill this oath, in two different ways. First, continual improvement includes expanding the mind through exposure to new modalities or healing techniques that may not have been available during medical school training. At this conference, you will find lectures well beyond those that simply review current conventional and surgical practices. Second, there is the concept of competence. To be the best version of ourselves, both personally and professionally, we have to be in good physical, mental, and emotional health. I believe competence is strongly influenced by state of mind. With all the pressures of our profession compounding our stress daily, we need to make the time and space to strengthen ourselves. Emotional learning/recharging is just as important as book learning. This is where the AHVMA Conference excels! We have a national reputation of bringing a different experience to our attendees, whether they re from holistic, integrative or conventional practices. We offer a uniquely warm, friendly, accepting atmosphere while presenting cutting edge information and techniques. Attendees, lecturers, and vendors provide a uniquely open, sharing and mentoring environment, making it an experience like no other. Attending my first AHVMA conference years ago literally changed my life. Learn. Explore. Share. Laugh. Recharge. Grow. And just be you! We look forward to you joining us this fall in sunny Florida! With warmest regards, Debbie Decker, MSSA, DVM President, AHVMA EXPAND YOUR HORIZONS Increase your knowledge of Complementary and Alternative Veterinary Modalities such as Nutrition, Cancer Management, and Herbal Medicine including important sessions on Health and Wellbeing for you. This is AMAZING news and we couldn t be more excited to welcome these future healers to AHVMA. AHVMA and the AHVM Foundation work to bring students to the Annual Conference through scholarships (AHVMF), grants and individual donations (AHVMA). Each year, AHVMA funds the annual conference attendance of the Student AHVMA National Board officers and delegates. This is only been made possible through the generosity of our donors. Thank you to all of the individuals, clinics, and exhibitors who have supported our students. With your generosity we hope to bring even more students to the 2018 AHVMA Annual Conference. If you are a veterinary student (or faculty at an AVMA accredited veterinary college), and would like to know more about joining or starting a Student AHVMA Chapter, please contact the AHVMA Office at office@ahvma.org.
