And not many grandfathers maintain a lifelong love of frogs either and one of life's joys for Robin is the pursuit of tadpoles and the rearing of copious quantities of fully fledged frogs from that old aquarium that sits outside the front door. The pigs are kune kunes and they have been ever-present in Old MacDonald's yard since Richard brought two back from Hanmer over twenty years ago. The current pair are not the originals, mind you. Rhododendrons and cacti are also important- witness the forest of rhodos that followed Robin from "Tarata" to "Paratu". A labour of love and hopefully not included in his will! And what caricature of RJD would be complete without Ram 4U? It was a second hand purchase in the first place and has been driven all over the country by the bloke who was so bad at teaching his own kids to drive that their mother had to take over the job after just one day. The fact that Ram 4U is automatic has no doubt helped immensely as Robin never really got the hang of clutches or the general order of gears. So it is indeed fitting that both the Old Man and his trusty Old Car have made this significant milestone and we are immensely proud of what he has packed into the forty-odd years we've known him. 7 In 2013 and 2014 OSRS restructured its breeding flocks reducing some and expanding others. The change was first discussed with Hugh Blair in 2003; it took place a decade later. All of the breeds are still farmed in the North Island. South Island has five breeds so far. Selected lambs come back to Paratu to be performance recorded in a common environment. As the programme develops, results will be reported in newsletters. To date we are very pleased with what is happening with the flocks. There are 12 OSRS flocks being managed independently of OSRS. Two other farms are closely associated and rearing young sheep for OSRS. The most important outside farm is that of Jeff and Sue Moss. It has been a very enjoyable association with each learning from one-another. Jeff is an outstanding stockman as is shown in the picture of his hoggets in this newsletter 104.
