An im Al dissertation My dissertation deals with the animal cause. I would like to start by explaining the reasons that led me to deepen my research on this subject. It s above all a personal commitment against domestic or industrial maltreatment, whether it s practiced in laboratories, livestock farms or slaughterhouses, but it s also to defend the Ecosystems. The objective here is to deal with and solve small and large everyday problems related to economic, social and environmental issues. For me, to take an interest in the animal cause is to do pedagogy ; to serve the public information means to communicate on current events, for example the problems related to ecology ; it s also to communicate on actions, on social groups ; it s to inform on the work of the scientific community, on the legislation and it s fields of application. As a graphic design student defending the animal cause, I want to show that it s possible to consider new forms that wouldn t just play with guilt but could to reach a wider audience. Some of them could also be dedicated to the youngest, to the citizens of tomorrow.

Zoo krakowskie I spent an afternoon at the Zoo Krakowskie where different species live together in a same area. I wanted to illustrate this observation, I worked on assemblage, cutting and collage with the photographs taken from an old book about Zoo, bought at the flea market Hala Targowa. The poster is a lithography, printing process that I discovered in Poland. 5
Double portrait The theme was «Double Portrait». With Mirek Niesyto, a photo teacher and equipped with a medium format camera, the Mamiya Rz 67, I explored the streets of Kazimierz district in Cracow. In this neighborhood, I met Jacub, a young Polish student with his French bulldog named Jazz. His dog became my photo model for a day. All together we traveled through the city to Nowy Square. There, a wall with a large white dog tag caught my attention. I realized my double portrait : the black French bulldog and the white Polish dog. 7
Animal of Laboratory My knowledge of the animal cause is partly due to my readings. As in Audrey Jougla s book «Profession : Lab Animal» where I discovered the atrocities practiced on animals, for medical, military, spatial and pharmacology research. I designed an edition with the image of the investigation carried out by the journalist in those closed places where the truth is masked. 9
Poem From a poem in three parts «The Travel» by Charles Baudelaire. I created three postcards, on the back : the poem itself, on the front of each postcard, I represented three animals from three different countries which are poached for a part of their bodies : the horn of the rhinoceros, the wood of the deer, the fin of the shark. Horn, wood and fin can be removed from the visuals and placed on the back as a postage stamp. Thus, the travel is made of poem, animals and postcard. 11
Krakow Sausage! In Poland, there is a every where on the plate, in the street, on the Vistula river. With irony, I represented the simplified visual of a sausage associated with the word «Krakow». The set is printed on a cloth bag. Thus even vegetarian people, like myself, can meet the famous Krakow sausage. 13
Subjective map Every day I take the tram. Generally line 24th but also the 11th, the 18th and the regularly the 2nd. A journey that proved to be sometimes long and boring. However, I noticed that many people in Krakow owned a dog and walked around with it. Then, with my notebook I drew the different breeds of dogs that I could observe. This hobby was the trigger for this project : a subjective map that was given to each passenger at each tram stop and where they must set the stikers of different dogs they met during their trip. 15
17
Travelogue Having a habit of making rapid sketches when I travel, I decided to illustrate my four months in Poland with this same technique of drawing. Every day, at different times of the day and with a black pen, I drew the place where I was and what I saw on the present moment. In this way, I realised four travelogues called «March», «April», «May» and «June». 19
Diploma project The various projects carried out at the Pedagogical University of Cracow were the first steps towards the design of my diploma project : «515 14», it s a contemporary, committed and radical magazine entirely devoted to the defense of the animal cause. My goal is to fill the gap between scientific publications and major public magazines on animals while shaking up the classic codes of the animal press. «515 14» intends to offer the general public, information on all the current events affecting the defense of animals defined by French law, according to Article as «living beings endowed with sensibility». My idea is to draw attention to the various topical subjects such as adoption and abandonment, food practices, animal experimentation, cultural practices, ecology... I believe that knowledge is the first condition for any preservation action! To this end, I m committed in providing information to the general public by conducting a research on current political, social, humanitarian, cultural, environmental and ethical issues. Together with the textual content, I focus on illustration, which also gives it s original tone to the magazine. Humor is thus summoned to sensitize the readership to this cause. This innovative design makes «515 14» a magazine accessible to any public
