1 2015 World Agility Open Championships Team USA Thank you for your interest in joining Team USA for the 2015 World Agility Open Championships! Successful applicants will be representing the U.S. at the 2015 World Agility Open. Attendance at the 2014 UKI U.S. Open will be mandatory for any handler and dog wishing to try out for the 2015 WAO Team USA. The event will be held on November 14-16, 2014 at McGough Arena at the WNC Agricultural Center, just outside of Asheville, North Carolina. This event is open to all dogs and handlers, not just UKI members. Information regarding this event will be available on the UKI website: In addition, there will be a mandatory meeting for all team candidates before the UKI event starts. This meeting will be held at the arena before the event starts. Details will be provided. Included here are the team selection criteria and requirements. Please read carefully and fill out the application. The application is due by October 10, 2014 but we encourage you to apply as early as possible. Please note that neither points nor a win-on team spot can be earned at the U.S. Open unless you have submitted your team application by the deadline. For 2015 we will be charging a $35 application fee. 100% of the fee will go toward the 2015 team s travel expenses. Number of Dogs It is anticipated that Team USA will consist of dogs, with 3 or 4 dogs in each of four jump heights: Jump Height Name Dog s Height at Withers Jump Height inches & under inches inches & under inches inches & under inches 650 Any inches Team Requirements Dogs that do not have an official WAO measurement (listed on the WAO website) must be measured by Greg or Laura Derrett at the 2014 UKI U.S. Open on setup day or Friday morning. This measurement will be your official WAO measurement and you will not have to be measured again at the WAO. Dogs must be in good health and fit to fly and have appropriate paperwork to enter the WAO country. The handler can be a citizen of the United States or a resident alien, and must hold a valid passport. The handler who runs the dog at the WAO event MUST be the same handler who ran the dog in competition stated on the application form (see Team Selection Criteria ). 1

2 Team Selection Criteria: Win-on Spots In 2015, two (2) spots in each jump height will be a win-on spot as required by WAO rules one spot will be to compete in the WAO Agility Biathlon and Agility Games championship, and the other will be to compete in the WAO Individual Agility Pentathlon. The qualifying event to fill these spots will be the UKI U.S. Open. Only results from the 12", 16", 22", and 26" height divisions will be used to determine these win-on spots. To be considered, applicants must enter the UKI Open National Championship classes, and any heats necessary to prequalify for the Masters Series Final (one round Agility and one round Jumpers) held at the UKI Open, at only these jump heights. Please be aware that UKI jump height cutoffs have a greater range than WAO; therefore, dogs must be entered in the UKI events based upon the equivalent WAO height cutoffs shown below. If dogs are tied on points, the results from just the Agility Biathlon will be used. If they do not meet the requirements, or they decline the invitation, the 2nd place finisher will be invited to fill the spot. If that person declines the spot, the invitation will go to the 3rd place finisher. If the 3rd place finisher declines, the spot will not be filled. Note: cannot be earned for the Agility Biathlon with an elimination in one of the rounds, and they cannot be earned for the Games Challenge with a score of zero in Snooker. 4 Team Selection Criteria: Other Positions on Team The other positions in each jump height will be determined by the Team USA Selection Committee, which is comprised to the team manager, team coach, Monica Percival, and Laura Derrett. The decision will be based 50% on the selection committee s evaluation of the handler and dog s performance at the 2014 UKI U.S. Open, and 50% on points earned under the point system described below. The members of the selection committee will be attending the U.S. Open to observe all team applicants. Participation in the Masters Heat (even if you have already qualified for the Masters Series Final) is highly recommended. If you decide not to enter or pull from the Masters Series Final, please explain your decisions to the selection committee. Team members are responsible for paying for all of their own expenses including (but not limited to) flight, dog s flight, transfers, vet fees, hotel, bus (or other ground transportation), event fee, uniform, and team operating expenses. Team management will assist the team members with ideas for individual fundraising and sponsorship, but there is no guarantee at this point of formal team fundraising ventures or team sponsors. All money raised by individual team members will go toward their portion of the trip. 6

11 About the Event The World Agility Open Championships (WAO) is an annual international event designed to Provide the ultimate in dog agility competition Showcase the highest level of agility training, human/canine partnership, and athleticism Enable all dogs, whether pedigreed or not, to compete in an environment that is solely focused on the sport of agility The WAO strives to provide jump height divisions where similar types of dogs compete against one another, an excellent competition surface and environment, and several varieties of contests with maximum runs to adequately test teams for all the skill sets necessary to be the best in dog agility. With that goal in mind, the Individual winners from the 2014 FCI Agility World Championships and 2014 European Open, as well as the Individual Agility Pentathlon and Biathlon winners from the 2014 WAO, are automatically eligible for entry to the 2015 WAO regardless of whether their country submits an entry. The WAO is the first international agility event created and managed by agility competitors (Greg Derrett and Monica Percival). It is not run under the auspices of any agility organization.
