Ms. Olsen is presently serving her first term that will expire December 31, L X BACKGROUND: The Council created the Animal Advisory Board in 1997 to advise and assist the county in animal-related issues. The board is comprised of nine members, six licensed kennel owners and three at-large citizens representing a broad range of interests relating to animal issues. Sharon Olsen is a long time Snohomish County resident and AKC (American Kennel Club) Canine Good Citizen trainer and evaluator. She brings her expertise and perspective as a pet owner, dog trainer and volunteer youth leader to the Board. Sharon has served the Snohomish County community in many capacities. She has been very active in Snohomish County 4-H for the past 29-years including serving as a multi-project club leader with over fifty (50) 4-H members from primary youth to high school students, organized food and toy drives for disadvantaged kids and promoted a variety of community service activities through her 4-H club. Sharon has served as president and secretary to the 4-H Leader's Council; served as the Snohomish County 4-H Dog Program Leader for 10 years and the 4-H Dog Barn Superintendent for 15-years at the Evergreen State Fair. Sharon has been instrumental in planning and facilitating the Canine Good Citizen evaluations, a free public service for dog owners sponsored by the Board. If approved, this would be the second term for Ms. Olsen, expiring December 31, Pursuant to SCC , her appointment is recommended by the County Executive. 3 SNOHOMISH COUNTY COUNCIL Snohomish County, Washington MOTION NO MOTION RE-APPOINTING SHARON OLSEN TO THE ANIMAL ADVISORY BOARD WHEREAS, the Snohomish County Council passed Ordinance # establishing an Animal Advisory Board; and WHEREAS, Chapter 6.09 Snohomish County Code specifies that the Animal Advisory Board be comprised of nine (9) members each appointed to serve three (3) year terms, of which six (6) members shall be licensed Snohomish County kennel owners; and WHEREAS, Sharon Olsen is a Snohomish County resident, a former 4-H Leader, and an American Kennel Club (AKC) Canine Good Citizen evaluator and trainer; and WHEREAS, Sharon Olsen brings her expertise and perspective as a pet owner, dog trainer and volunteer youth leader to the board; and WHEREAS, Sharon Olsen is currently serving her first term that will expire December31,2015;and WHEREAS, Sharon Olsen has expressed interest in re-appointment to the board as a non-kennel owner to continue serving the Snohomish County community; and WHEREAS, this re-appointment is recommended by County Executive John Lovick pursuant to SCC and by the other members of the Snohomish County Animal Advisory Board; NOW, THEREFORE, ON MOTION, the Snohomish County Council hereby confirms the re-appointment of Sharon Olsen to the Animal Advisory Board, to a threeyear term expiring December 31, PASSED this day of, SNOHOMISH COUNTY COUNCIL Snohomish County, Washington ATTEST: Council Chair Asst. The Board was established by the Council in 1997 to advise the county on licensing and other animalrelated issues. It is made up of nine members, including six licensed Snohomish County kennel owners and three at-large county residents representing a broad range of animal interests.
