REPEAT Section 2.40(b)(2) - Attending veterinarian and adequate veterinary care. Each dealer or exhibitor shall establish and maintain programs of adequate veterinary care that include the use of appropriate methods to prevent, control, diagnose, and treat diseases and injuries. - The following medications were past the expiration date: two bottles of metoclopramide , one tube of triple antibiotic ointment , one bottle of amikacin , and one container with Albon , one sheet of Clavamox tablets These medications were in the medical kits in the truck loading area. These kits were easily accessible and could be mistaken for pharmaceuticals that are currently being used by facility personnel. The licensee must ensure that all medications used in the facility are not expired and are labeled properly in accordance wlth standard veterlnary practices and manufacturer's recommendations. This affects all animals. 3.6 ( c n l n i ) PRIMARY ENCLOSURES. Section 3.6(c)(l)(i) - Each dog housed in a primary enclosure (including weaned puppies) must be provided a minimum amount of floor space, calculated as follows: Find the mathematical square of the sum of the length of the dog in inches (measured from the tip of its nose to the base of its tail) plus 6 inches; then divide the product by 144. The calculation is: (length of dog in inches + 6) x (length of dog in inches + 6) = required floor space in square inches. Required floor space in inches1144 = required floor space in square feet. - There were puppies housed in enclosuks that did not provide the required space. In the new building, seven enclosures were measured. The small enclosures measure 22 inches by 24 inches, which is 3.67 square feet. One cage had two pups, 12 inches and 13 inches long respectively. The area required for these pups is 4.76 square feet. One cage had two pups, 12 inches and 12 inches long respectively. The area required for these pups is 4.50 square feet. One cage had two cockapoo pups, 12 inches and 12 inches long respectively. The area required for these pups is 4.50 square feet. One cage had two boston pups, 12 inches and 13 inches long respectively. The area required for these pups is 4.76 square feet. One cage had three yorkie pups, 10.5 inches, 10 inches, and 9 inches long respectively. The area required for these pups is 5.23 square feet. One cage had two pups, 12 inches and 13 inches long respectively. The area required for these pups is 4.76 square feet. The large enclosures measure 30.5 inches by 48 inches, which is inches. There were three Labrador pups, 19 inches each. The area required for these pups square feet. In the old building, five enclosures were measured. One cage had two Pomeranian pups, 10.5 inches and 10.5 inches long respectively. The area required for these pups is 3.78 square feet. One cage had two shih tzu pups, 12.5 inches and 11 inches long respectively. The area required for these pups is 4.39 square feet. One cage had two fox terrier pups, 12 inches and 13.5 inches long respectively. The area required for these pups is 4.89 square feet. The large enclosures (cage divider removed) measured 22.5 inches by 47 inches, which is One cage had two golden doodle pups, 20 inches and 18 inches long respectively. The area required for these pups is 8.69 square feet. There many more small enclosures that housed similar sized puppies that do not meet the minimum space requirements. The owner must provide enclosures that allow the minimum amount of floor space for each animal. Fewer animals must be placed in these enclosures, or larger enclosures provided. This affects at least 26 animals. To be corrected by: May 26, (c) CLEANING, SANITIZATION, HOUSEKEEPING, AND PEST CONTROL. Section 3.11(c) - Housekeeping for premises. Premises where housing facilities are located, including buildings and surrounding grounds, must be kept clean and in good repair to protect the animals from injury, to facilitate the husbandry practices required in this subpart, and to reduce or eliminate breeding and living areas for rodents and other pests and vermin. Premises must be kept free of accumulations of trash, junk, waste products, and discarded matter. Weeds, grasses, and bushes must be controlled so as to facilitate cleaning of the premises and pest control, and to protect the health and well-being of the animals. - The empty feed sacks stacked in the trash container were overflowing into an empty feed bin. There was a lid for the trash container but it would not close due to the number of feed sacks. There was dog food on the floor next to the walls near the empty sacks. There was also rodent feces on the floor next to the walls. The building must be kept clean to facilitate the husbandry practices required in this subpart, and to reduce or eliminate breeding and living areas for rodents and other pests and vermin. The trash needs to be removed more often and the floor cleaned more frequently This affects all animals. To be corrected by: May 10,2006. This bottle expired in May of The mucomyst, diazepam, and ivomec were in the vet clinic and stored adjacent to drugs that are routinely used by the facility for the veterinary care of the animals. The prednisone was out in the open on a shelf in an area housing animals. At this facility - animals are routinely medicated in their housing areas. Outdated medications are not considered to be part of appropriate veterinary care. The facility must properly dispose of all outdated medications and routinely check all medications and dated items to ensure that these drugs are not used on the animals in the facility. The facility veterinarian placed these outdated mediactions in his pockets when they were discovered during the inspection. Great Dane puppy E was 20 long. This dog requires 4.89 square feet and was in a cage that measured 4 square feet. GSD puppy E was 21" long. This dog requires 5.06 square feet and was in a cage that measured 4 square feet. Golden retriever puppy E was 20" long. This dog requires 4.69 square ieet and was in a rage that measured 4 square ieet. Lab puppy EGO2295 was 20" long. This dog requires 4 69 square feet and was in a cage that measured 4 square ieet. The attending vet opened the adjacent pen during the inspection and allowed this puppy and Lab puppy E access to the cages now measuring 8 square feet.
