1 PDF FILE: 1 - GGNRA Offenses-Incidents High Level Summaries Updated for typo Summary LITTLE OFFENSE FROM GGNRA DOGS Updated for pie data errors Pie Incidents Pie Safety Dogs have a small Nip of GGNRA Offenses If only people and the park were as safe as dogs Summarizes the status of dog/bite attacks and estimates GGNRA dog visitation Dog bites/attacks were 166 for 6 years for approximately 226 million dog visits. Approximately, 14% of the Bay Area visit the parks with dogs. The visitation frequency for non-dog owners is unknown. Shows that dog related offenses are only a small part of the overall offenses/incidents in the GGNRA (7% dog offenses/incidents considering 14% of the population take dogs to the GGNRA.) Shows that for safety related offenses/incidents that dogs have a safety risk * These are estimates only based on the responses from the 2002 GGNRA Population Phone Survey Results and the 2008 US Census Report. The visitation frequency of people that do not visit the park with their dog was not requested during the survey. However, "high visitation residents are the most likely to make use of GGNRA sites for dog walking with 66 percent saying they have taken their dog(s) for a walk in a GGNRA site." Therefore, it is highly likely that more that 14% of GGNRA visits are by dog walkers. High visitation is daily or weekly. ** Each offense/incidents ticket record was only counted once. For example, assault/rape was only counted once as rape. In addition, the offenses/incident were not always clear and I had to use judgement in summarizing the data. (Dog Bites/Attacks represent 2% of public safety related offenses/incidents. Note the severity of incidents is unknown at this time but most are likely to be more minor medical issues with no long term injury.)
2 Significance Pie Loosen the Leash for Less Offenses Summarizes the types of dog related offenses Pie Damages Little Damage - Friendly Dogs Bigger Damage People (2040 (76%) of offenses relate to Leash Law Violations. On average only 110 dog offenses/incidents occur per year for 3 counties.) Shows that for personal and park damage offenses/incidents that dogs have a low impact. Pie Overall People Impact Only 7% gave examples of experience with dogs actually misbaving with people or dogs Pie Neg Responses Only Only a Few Negative Off-Leash Experiences are Due to Dogs Misbehaving... PDF FILE: 2 - GGNRA Dog Visit Estimates (Dogs represent 5% of damage related GGNRA offenses/incidents. Only 4% of wildlife disturbance and 20% of closed area/trespassing relates to dogs.) Summary of all responses for those that had seen off-leash dogs in the GGNRA. 7% reported actual experiences where dogs had misbehaved and impacted their experience. 48% report no impact while 10% disliked off-leash dogs or dogs but didn't report an actual misbehavior. 7% of negative responses were not available. 27% of respondents said the dogs improved their experience. Summary of verbatim reasons given for respondents having a negative or distracted experience with off-leash dogs. 532 of 1024 respondents reported having seen off-leash dogs in the park. The pie chart reflects only the views of those that had seem off-leash dogs. The survey report only includes 79 negative verbatim responses even though 22% of 532 is 117. It is unknown as to why the remainder did not provide responses and/or they were not in the report.
3 Dog Visit Estimates Dog Visit Estimates Estimation of the number of dog visits to the park and other information from the 2002 GGNRA Population Phone Survey * Same as above 2002 Phone Survey Excerpts Excerpts from the 2002 GGNRA Phone Key counts from the survey respondents PDF FILE: 3 - GGNRA Offenses-Incidents Summary Tables Dog Related Dog Impact Related to Other Yearly counts of offenses/incident by dog Offenses/Damage related vs non-dog related Signficance GGNRA Summary by Significance High level significance of offenses/incident by dog related vs nondog related YEARS-Inc ALL Area Summary w Est Reductions Offenses/Incidents by Specific Park Area Targeted for Off-Leash and On-Leash Reduction County numbers may have changed slightly due to data Type Loc-Inc YEAR-CTY ALL COUNTIES - GGNRA Counties with offense/incident by year for the county clean-up Same as above Type Loc-Inc CTY-YEAR YEARS BY COUNTY - GGNRA Years with offense/incident by county for the year

Substantatively, the information should be correct but there may be some wrong areas/location types. * * * *
