Repeat this three times for a high energy warm up. Adventure: A Mouse (matching, elbows to touch knees) took a stroll through the deep dark wood (Tree). A Fox (Cat licking lips) saw the mouse and the mouse looked good. Where are you going to little brown mouse? Come and have lunch in my underground house (tunnel of Dogs) (Each child to take turns looking in the fox s house, by going through the tunnel). 1
It s terribly kind of you fox, but no- I m going to have lunch with a gruffalo (Mouse in hero pose). A gruffalo?, what s a gruffalo? Said fox A gruffalo, why don t you know?... He has...terrible tusks, (hands in a fist, with little fingers and thumbs sticking up). And terrible claws; (open hands out). And terrible teeth in his terrible jaws. (show teeth and open mouths wide). Where are you meeting him? asked fox. Here, by these rocks (Tent). And his favourite food is roasted Fox! (Rub belly) I m off! Fox said and away he sped (Run on the spot). (Mouse hero pose, laughing) Silly old Fox! Doesn t he know there s no such thing as a gruffalo? The Mouse (marching) went on through the deep dark wood. Owl saw the mouse and the mouse looked good. (Owl in hero pose with arms flapping) Where are you going to, little brown mouse? Come and have tea in my treetop House. It s frightfully nice of you, Owl but no, I m going to have tea with a gruffalo. A gruffalo? What s a gruffalo? A gruffalo! Why don t you know? (Mouse hero pose). He has...knobbly knees (hands on top of knees and swap over). And turned out toes (point feet outward Penguin). And a poisonous wart on the end of his nose (stretch out arms, put finger on nose). Owl asked Where are you meeting him? 2
(paddle feet) Here by the stream, (rub belly) and his favourite food is Owl icecream. Owl ice-cream, goodbye little mouse and Owl flew away, (move around the room). Mouse said laughing There s no such thing as a gruffalo. Mouse went on (marching) through the deep dark wood. Snake saw the mouse and the mouse looked good. Where are you going to, little brown mouse? Come for a feast in my log pile house (lie flat and long on the floor). It s wonderfully good of you snake, but no- I m having a feast with a gruffalo. (Standing up Mountain pose- move forward and back). A gruffalo? What s a gruffalo? (Mountain pose move from side to side). A gruffalo! Why don t you know? Said Mouse (hero pose). His...eyes are orange, (goggles eyes with hands) his tongue is black; (move tongue around the mouth, then stick it out) he has purple prickles all over his back (Child pose, arms reversed across your back, hands joined together with finger sticking up). Where are you meeting him? asked Snake Here by this lake (Bridge across the lake). And his favourite food is scrambled snake! (Keep feet on floor shake, body twist). Scrambled snake! It s time I hid and away Snake slid. Silly old Snake! Doesn t he know there is no such thing as a gruffalo....oh! But who is this creature with terrible claws and terrible teeth, in his terrible jaws? He has knobbly knees, turned out toes and a wart on the end of his nose. His eyes are orange, his tongue is black; He has purple prickles all over his back (go through all the 3
postures). Oh help! Oh no! It s a gruffalo said Mouse (arms stretch in front, swing down). My Favourite food the Gruffalo said (rub tummy) You ll look good on a slice of bread. GOOD said Mouse Don t call me good, I m the scariest creature in this wood. Just walk behind me, everyone is afraid of me. Alright he laughed (from waist lean forward, then back) (Crow walk). Snake, hello! (left arm stretch, wave) Snake looked up at them. Goodbye, little mouse, and off he slid (Mountain). Amazing said the Gruffalo. Owl, hello! (right arm stretch, wave) Owl looked down at them. Goodbye, little mouse and off he flew (Magic Bird). Astounding said the Gruffalo Fox, hello! (both arms cross over each other) Fox looked from the Gruffalo to the Mouse Goodbye, little mouse and off he ran (run on spot). Mouse said Well, Gruffalo, you see Everyone is afraid of me! But now my tummy s beginning to rumble. My favourite food is gruffalo crumble (rub tummy). Gruffalo crumble! the Gruffalo said, and quick as the wind he turned (Star shape) and fled (run on spot). All was quiet in the deep dark wood. The Mouse found a nut and the nut was good. Relaxation and Visualisation: Okay MegaBugs we are now going to relax and think about all the things we have done in our session today! As we start to relax, let s see if we can imagine how quiet it was in the deep dark wood. 4
The mouse found a nut and the nut was good (Butterfly) Lie down and think of all the times you are scared. Take a slow breath in and let the fear out. Be brave and remember the little mouse. Suggested follow on Games and Activities: Guffalo Walk: this involves a group of mice and a Guffalo, who stands with his back to the group. The mice can move only when they are not being watched, and must freeze in a posture when the Guffalo turns round. If anyone moves when the Gruffalo turns, the whole group goes back to the start. 5
