1 To The Pointe SPRING Emerald Pointe Property Owners Association Population density at EP has drastically reduced in the past few weeks as the official season has drawn to a close. The northward migration will continue into May as some of those lingering in the sunshine get word from family and friends back home that the snow is finally gone and temperatures are starting to warm up. While the weather here at EP has been delightful of late, the arrival of Spring does seem to be taking a little longer in many areas of the north this year! The thoughts and prayers of our community are going out to Harry Salisbury, James Hills, Kathy Kelly and the family of Ralph Hutchinson If you learn of any residents who are in need of our support over the summer months, please contact Mary Wilcox or lynnbugden@gmail.com Speaking of the weather, forecasters are predicting the possibility of an above average number of major storms this summer. We can t control the weather, but we can certainly hope they don t materialize or at least will not follow a track over Zephyrhills. We also need to put into practice what we learned from last year s hurricane and be sure that outside items are brought in or at least are very well secured when we are not in residence. If you have left EP and realize you might have been a bit lax in stowing your outside property, please contact one of us still here to help rectify the situation before it might become critical. (Ed. Note: Post your request on Facebook someone will help!) was another terrific season at EP and we are left with many memories of good times, enjoyable activities and events, and great fellowship. As the pace of life at EP now starts to settle into a somewhat quieter summertime rhythm, it is fitting to once again extend a hearty THANK YOU to each and every resident who contributed this season by volunteering in so many capacities. Your participation, hard work and support have nurtured and sustained the wonderfully strong community spirit at EP and have also enabled EP to remain the best value and brightest little gem of all the RV Resorts in Florida! Best wishes for an enjoyable summer and stay safe on the roads! Rich Grega, President, EPPOA
2 Emerald Pointe welcomes our recent New Owners! Vito & Joyce Rizzuto, Lot 261 Dan & Judy Kernell, Lot 81 Joe & Darlene Rooney, Lot 262 Jack McBee, Lot 62 Rick & Cindi Black, Lot 244 Paul & Sue Sholar, Lot 270 Ronald and Alyce Barbor, Lot 230 Garrett & Nancy Baily, Lot 304 Our EPPOA Secretary, Connie Wilson, has suggested and implemented a Text Alert system so that emergency or other important information with wide impact to the EP community (such as water shut downs, pool issues, etc.) can be sent out via text message to all who have provided their phone number and service provider information. Rich Frascone will be administering this system during the summer when Connie is not here. These text alerts will supplement Facebook and the EP website News & Notes by providing a real time channel for getting word out to as many residents as possible, as quickly as possible. Initial testing has gone extremely well. There were some early issues with Canadian phone numbers/providers which have now been resolved. Well, we had a LOT of FUN at EP this past season! Great entertainment and as always, LOTS of good FOOD!! Thank you to all who attended. Your enthusiasm for all our activities is really appreciated! Thank you also to all the awesome volunteers who worked tirelessly behind (and in front of!) the scenes to make this season so successful. Special thanks to Karen Dietrich and Brenda Bradley you were ALWAYS there to make my duties much easier and so much more fun! I have been diligently working to make next year s entertainment and activity program even better. Keep in touch on Facebook because I will be posting next season s plans later in the summer. Until next season, travel safe and have a great summer! Tyna Conley, Director So far, over 60 residents have signed up to receive alerts. We would like to see that number grow to include at least one resident of each lot in EP. If you have not signed up yet, send your text-enabled phone number along with the name of your service provider (Verizon, AT&T, etc.) to Connie (epsecretary3541@att.net) or Rich (rfrascone@aol.com). It s just that simple.and you ll receive important information in real time!
3 Another great year at Emerald Pointe for the Billiard 8 Ball League! We had a total of 16 regular players, as well as spares, who got together every Monday night with the goal of fellowship and friendly competition. After a ten week schedule, we again had four levels that played off for various amounts of prize money. The winner of Group A was Gerald Landry, Group B Charlie Watts, Group C Gerald Aiken and Group D Jim Lynn. A few years back, Gerald Aiken positioned himself to be in the final playoff for the Grand Champion with bragging rights. This year, he defeated Gerald Landry (our all-time leader) for points, to again achieve that goal. Congratulations, Gerald! We are all looking forward to next season! Thanks to Jim Brown for stepping up to help me with the big job of scheduling! Almost 300 members strong and growing, our Emerald Pointe Facebook Group has become an indispensable communication tool for our community and its residents. Remember to check in regularly and keep posting let us know what you re up to over the summer! Please read the About note and the pinned post at the top of the Group page to learn about proper posting etiquette. A reminder that we must limit posts to information pertinent to our community and discourage the posting of shares, videos and links that do not have a specific relevance to our residents. These types of posts, while they may be cute, funny or otherwise entertaining, are more suited to sharing with your own personal friends. If you have not yet joined, please do! There is a direct link to the Group on the EP website, or search Emerald Pointe RV Resort Closed Group from your personal Facebook page and click JOIN. You will receive an automated message that must be submitted in order to confirm your join request. This information must be completed in full, or you will not be approved. Thanks for your continued support of our Group! Lynn Bugden, Group Administrator Submitted by Winston Brown
4 EP Restrictions and Rules Regarding Dogs & Cats Most dog owners are responsible and conscientious about picking up after their pets, walking them on a leash and not allowing them to create a nuisance or be aggressive towards people or other animals. But it seems that there are always the few who need reminding, even though it is common courtesy to fellow residents as well as a requirement spelled out in our Governing Documents. Similarly, many owners keep their cats indoors in the interest of their health and safety. Others train their cats to a leash when outside. There are, however, some who have been allowing their cats to run loose. This is creating a problem and is a violation of our CC&Rs. These domestic cats, along with their feral cousins leave behind their waste, and too often create a real nuisance because of fighting, damage to property and other disturbances. The number of reported incidents and complaints involving freely roaming cats has increased during the past year. In response, the Board has no choice but to re-emphasize that our Governing Documents address pets generically, making no distinctions nor exemptions for whether the pet is a dog or a cat. What is required is that ALL pets (cats as well as dogs) be leashed, under control and picked up after when off their owner s property. Violators are subject to being fined. It is also clearly stated in our CC&Rs that any pet running loose in the park may be impounded at the expense of the owner. If you see a violation, report it with a description of the animal, the circumstances and corroborating witness statements and/or photographs. This will be helpful to both identify the animal and support any necessary action by the Board. The feral cat population is another facet of this issue. Feral cats, by hunting rodents and snakes, do provide a benefit, but it is in our best interests to control their numbers. That has been done whenever new feral or abandoned cats are spotted at EP thanks to the efforts of several concerned residents who have trapped, neutered and released in-place (TNR). TNR is consistent with Pasco County ordinances and recommended practices. Complete removal of all feral cats from EP has been suggested by those raising concerns, but it must be noted that Pasco County does not allow that. In fact, several reasons are given online why total removal is not a good and lasting solution. It is unwise for any EP resident to regularly feed a feral cat unless they are prepared to fully accept the responsibility of adopting it as a pet. Once a previously feral cat is observed to be semi-domesticated, the Board may construe that it has in fact been adopted by whomever has been regularly feeding it. The County suggests that if someone does choose to feed feral cats that the food not be left out all the time but rather that only small quantities be supplied in a consistent place for a short interval each day and then removed. It only makes sense in our densely populated resort to supply any food in an area well away from all neighbors and frequently used common areas so both the feral cats and other wildlife are not enticed into close contact with humans. To be very clear, your Board will equitably enforce the current rules regarding pets. I sincerely hope that heightened awareness, common sense and residents respect for one another will reduce the number of incidents and make it unnecessary to adopt additional and more restrictive pet rules in the future. Rich Grega, President, EPPOA
