5 INTRODUCTION In recent years thrips have assumed considerable importance as pest of variety of crops of agricultural and horticultural value and some species are carriers of viral diseases to a number of commercial and food crops. Considering the importance, tempo of research on this group has been accelerated and as a result of which a large number of papers have been published. It is often difficult for research workers both In applied Entomology and taxonomy to have access to increasing literature on diverse aspects in view of them being widely disseminated in an array of journals. Keeping this in view this comprehensive bibliography has been compiled covering all aspects of thrips studies. I nspite of the best efforts to compile as complete a list as possible, errors or omission might creep in. Reference to thrips literature on the adjacent countries I.e. Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka have been included. Besides Indian, important references of general interest (technique, morphology, ecology, classification, catalogue and revisionary works etc.) have also been incorporated for benifit of research workers, specially beginners. The references have been arranged alphabetically according to the surname of the authors and for each author chronologically. Altogether 566 references have been included. The references have been classified subject wise and indicated in the subject index at the end. II. BIBLIOGRAPHY 1. ABRAHAM.
