2 Dear Club members, Another year has passed and the National Breed show is approaching quickly. The National Breed show in Pretoria will be held between the 3 rd and 5 th of May 2013 at the Westelike Rugby Grounds. The show will start off on Friday morning with the bite work for all dogs over 24 months that have to qualify to be able to be shown in the working classes. Dogs that fail the bite work can be shown in the non-working classes. After the bite work the showing of the classes 1 to 4 follow. On Saturday morning the show usually starts off with the progeny class where the stud dogs from around the country show off their progeny. After the progeny class the showing of the classes 5 to 8 follow. On Saturday evening the awards evening is held during which the TOP 20 sires and dams and show kennels are celebrated (see pages 5 to 7) and the kennel owners are being awarded according to the points earned by the kennel over the lifetime of the kennel. The main event of the show is on Sunday where the open classes males and bitches are shown which usually consist of about 50 dogs each. After this main event the kennel groups compete where breeders show five of their dogs which have to show uniformity in the breeding. The highest difficulty is to show 5 different dogs from different sires and dams! The show ends with a parade of the winners and after that everybody starts to socialize before the price giving. For our first time travelers to the Nationals we have included a check list of travel goodies that Simone has prepared as when you travel with your dog it is good to be prepared for the event that he gets sick. 3 Important tips when traveling to the National Breed Show - Have collar and leash in the hand glove department or somewhere within your reach as you will have to stop with your dog every 3 hours to give him water and allow him to relieve himself - Take bottled water or water from the PE tap with on the trip as the tap water outside of PE is differently prepared by the municipality and your dogs stomach can get runny trying to adjust to it - In Pretoria remember when you prepare your dogs food only to use bottled water or boiled water and only give him bottled water or boiled and cooled down water to drink as you can t afford for your dog to be sick when you want to show him - Take your dogs favorite treats and snacks with you as a lot of dogs don t travel well and stop eating while being away from home. Grown men have been known to beg their dogs to eat just a few pellets after losing weight over 3 days! - Make sure your dog is in the best possible condition before starting the trip as his condition will decrease with possibly not eating and dealing with the difference in altitude. Your dog has to be in average double as fit to be able to compete with dogs already living in Pretoria and being used to the altitude. 3

4 Annual Showing Awards 8.1 Categories Top Twenty Show Kennels of the Year - All the progeny bred under a kennel name allocated points as stipulated in the schedule below Top Twenty Sires of the Year - All the progeny of a sire will be allocated points as stipulated in the schedule below Top Twenty Dams of the Year - All the progeny of a dam will be allocated points stipulated as in the schedule below. 8.2 Points Schedule Each time a dog is shown in an official Federation show and receives the highest grading for its class, it will be allocated points as follows: a) VP in the puppy classes: 1 point b) SG in the classes 12 months up to 2 years: 3 points c) V: 5 points d) V(NBS): 8 points d) VA(SA) : 15 points e) Kennel Group: Presenting a kennel group, once only, at a Provincial Show for the Top 20 Show kennel award 15 Points The sire or dam of each dog awarded "Körkl 1": 5 points A year in which points may be accumulated will start six weeks before a National Breed Show and end six weeks before the next National Breed Show The awards will be presented at the subsequent National Breed Show.
