7 Roger Hartinger, of Cincinnati, Ohio, has been involved with dogs since early childhood, his family having had a German Shepherd Dog and a Wire Fox Terrier. While at college, he obtained a Great Dane, a breed he continued to own after marriage. Mr. Hartinger first bred and exhibited Standard Schnauzers, most of which he finished to championships, and later bred Lakeland Terriers. He began exhibiting in 1965, and both he and his wife, Paula, were AKC Licensed Handlers. Mr. Hartinger is an all-breed judge who ranks his Working Group assignments at the first two AKC/Eukanuba shows among the highlights of his judging career. Among his numerous club affiliations, Mr. Hartinger is a life member of the Clermont County and Cincinnati kennel clubs. He has served both organizations as president and show chairman. He is a board member of the Dog Judges Association of America and a founding member of the OKI Dog Judges Workshop. Mr. Hartinger has held memberships in many other clubs, including the American Miniature Schnauzer Club, the Buckeye Associated Specialty Clubs (past president), and the Standard Schnauzer Club of America (past president and show chairman). Mr. Hartinger thanks his wife of 53 years and all-breed judging partner, Paula, for having a profound influence on his life. Paula Hartinger, of Cincinnati, is half of one of dogdom s best-known husband-and-wife teams. "When I first met my husband, Roger, it was predestined that I would become involved in purebred dogs," she says. "When we were dating, we went to dog shows and kennels. Many times our chaperone on dates was Roger s Great Dane!" The Hartingers began breeding and exhibiting dogs in the early 1960s first Basset Hounds, then Standard Schnauzers, and most recently Lakeland Terriers. They finished several Standard Schnauzer champions and have mentored other exhibitors. Mrs. Hartinger was a professional handler of note, guiding many dogs to championships. An AKC judge with more than 35 years experience, Mrs. Hartinger has judged throughout the United States and in 25 other countries, including two Word Shows. Her major assignments have been "just too many to single out a few," but she considers her many trips to the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship, especially this one, to be highlights. She is approved to judge Standard Schnauzers, and all groups but the Working. Mrs. Hartinger is past president of both the Standard Schnauzer and Miniature Schnauzer clubs of Cincinnati. She has served as show chairman for the Standard Schnauzer Club of America national-specialty show, the Clermont County Kennel Club, and the Standard Schnauzer Club of Cincinnati. She is show secretary of the Cincinnati Kennel Club and coordinator of the OKI Judges Workshop, secretary of the Dog Judges Association of America, and is a much-in-demand instructor at breeding and judging seminars. "My life outside the ring is spent mostly with family," she says. "I take great pride in my children and grandchildren, and my many years with Roger.

A Judge or any person participating in any capacity at a Dog Show held under CKC Rules shall not be subjected to any indignity of any kind during the progress of the show and it shall be the duty and obligation of the Club holding the show to see that this rule is effectively carried out. The Show Superintendent shall promptly report to the CKC any infringement of the rules, and the Discipline Committee shall have the power to take such action as it deems fit on receipt of a report indicating that this rule has been violated. 5. Exhibitors are solely responsible for the conduct or actions of their animals while they are on the show grounds. 6. DOGS MUST BE READY FOR JUDGING. The Club will not be responsible for and is not obligated to provide any service for notifying owners or agents of breed or class judging. No ring shall be held up waiting for exhibitors or handlers. Exhibitors & Handlers with more than one dog shall have substitute handlers available so the judging will not be delayed. All start times are PACIFIC TIME. 7. The owner of a dog entered in these shows is entirely responsible for any error in entering his/her dog, regardless of how or by whom the entry was made. 8. A dog once disqualified for any reason at a championship show held under these rules cannot again be shown at a show held under these rules until the dog has been examined by an official committee appointed by the CKC and the committee finds the dog is free from the condition which prompted the disqualification. Application for reinstatement must be accompanied by a fee of $50.00 plus GST which shall be forfeited to the CKC if the examining committee is satisfied that the dog should remain disqualified. All awards earned at a dog show in violation of this rule shall be canceled by the CKC and the owner of the dog is subject to disciplinary action. 9. Exhibitors and handlers will be responsible for their dogs and for their equipment left at the Show Grounds. 10. For the benefit of the health of animals and the pleasure of the exhibitors and spectators we insist upon keeping our grounds and buildings as clean as possible. Exhibitors are responsible for cleaning up after their dogs. Please exercise your dog BEFORE taking it to the Judging ring. Dogs are to be exercised in the designated areas only, not in the vicinity of the ring areas. 11. No entry fee will be refunded if the Show cannot open or be completed by reason of riots, civil disturbances, fire, and Act of God, public emergency, act of public enemy, strikes or any other cause beyond the control of the Club. 12. Entry fees will not be refunded in the event that a dog is absent, disqualified, excused by the Veterinarian or Judge, or barred from competition by action of the Show Committee.

18 FIRE SAFETY RULES: Extension cords may not be laid across an aisle. Power bars are not permitted. Aisles must be kept open at all times to allow everyone easy and speedy exit in case of emergency. All designated FIRE LANES must be kept clear at all times or vehicles will be towed at owner s expense. ADDITIONAL CLUB RULES: Exhibitors will be responsible for cleaning up after their dogs. Violators will be asked to leave the show grounds. Crates will be allowed at ringside during the judging of your specific breed only and must be removed immediately after. No Exceptions. Dogs are not allowed in washrooms and must be on leash at all timed on the show grounds or within the show building with the exception of the obedience rings. The welfare of an exhibitor s child is assumed to be the responsibility of the exhibitor. It is distinctly understood that you will exercise control and restraint over the children in your care on the days of these shows. The Club is not responsible for lost or stolen property from exhibitors or venders/concessions. The Club will use due care and diligence for the welfare of dogs and exhibitors but will not be responsible for, or assume any liability in the event of accident or misfortune to either dogs, exhibitors, spectators or vendors. Plastic sheeting must be under all exercise pens. Dogs must be exercised in the designated areas. Dogs may not relieve themselves on or near the building. Failure to observe this rule may result in dismissal. Any tape used in the building has to be easily removable and must be removed after the show is competed. Colored tape is not allowed. You must leave your setup in the same clean condition you found it in when you first arrived at the show. No liquid waste is to be disposed of in garbage cans. All RV units must have buckets underneath for their sink drains. Anyone found discharging water on the grounds will be removed by order of the Health Department and may be subject to a fine. No catering of any kind is permitted. The club reserves the right of restricting exhibitors grooming space. Grooming is not allowed in the Rally benching area. Any videographer or photographer, other than the official videographer/photographer, that is going to take picture for which they will be remunerated will require written permission from the Nanaimo Kennel Club Show Committee and/or the official show videographer/photographer.
