3 President's Bark Wow, it is September already! It doesn't seem like it was almost a year ago when we held our last show. The last few months have been filled with fun and time to spend with our families, and the Richland Kennel Club activities were few and far between. Now we all need to focus on our major fund raising event so it will be as successful as all of our past shows. As we all know, July has been a slow month with no handling classes due to the hot weather, and no general meeting as prescribed by the RKC bylaws. We did have fun in August and the handling classes have resumed, so we are getting a chance to spend time with club members again. The August picnic was fun as usual with lots of people enjoying the food and company. It was another warm day and Dave and Helen had set up canopies because of the chance of rain, which worked out really well (PS-It did not rain). There was a lot of great recognition for all the award winners as well. I am a firm believer that when an RKC member earns an award, we all benefit greatly as a club. I am as a happy for them as if I won the award! As I said earlier, the show is coming up the end of September and everything is going as planned. The premium list is out and we have extra copies if needed. Leila is working on the heart clinic and is really focused on it being a success. This gives many local people an opportunity to get their dogs certified. Bonnie is continuing to put the raffle items together and will be having a "raffle party" soon to help get more baskets put together. She does have about 100 items completed so far! The raffle would not be successful without all the members who either donate their time or provide raffle items. The list is long so this is a universal THANK YOU to everyone who helps! Also, for the show, we are asking all of the club members to provide the same support as last year for stewards. While we have some stewards coming from out of town, we still have some spots to fill. If you are interested in stewarding at the 2 obedience trials on Friday, contact Bonnie Jo at (509) For stewarding at the conformation shows on Saturday and Sunday, contact Marilyn Clark at (509) As you all know, the other major activity facing the club is the new election of offices which occurs in November. Again, the time has flown by and I cannot believe we are ready to find new leaders. One of the things that this club has going for it is the general sense of helping each other be successful. The role of President is much easier because of the great board members, show committees, and all of you. Not only do we conduct business together, we all enjoy each other's company. Being a pragmatic individual, I know that I will not be here forever, so I am always looking to encourage other members to step up and am willing to help them all the way. If you are interested in any of the officers or board positions, please contact Michele Murray and Good Luck to you all. The September meeting will be fairly short for business, however the Richland Kennel Club has purchased a DVD from the Public Broadcasting Service titled "Dogs Decoded." It is really interesting and talks as to how dogs, which are all from the line of wolves, have developed and why there are differences. It is really fascinating! The October meeting is the club semi-annual pizza feed at the Roundtable in Pasco. This is always a great way to celebrate - a great year; lot's of award winners; a great dog show; and most of all; a club full of great people! Your Servant, Charles Ames, Presidenf.

4 Richland Kennel Club Board Meeting Minutes August 22, 2013 The meeting was called to order by Chuck Ames at Denny's at 7:28pm. Motion passed. Secretary Report - No report except as it pertains to the show (see section on Fall Dog Show). Treasurers Report - The Treasurer provided the status of the Club's accounts. Applications for Membership: None to read at this time. Fall Dog Show - Premium List is out. Judges for CBDTC show are to be announced. RKCagreed to include all-american dogs for CBDTC, but this did not get included in their premium list. RKC's shows are the only shows for the weekend including all-american dogs. 3 $100 ads and 2 $60 ads submitted. Ranch & Home wants to set up a large booth. Lion's Club may be the only food vendor, (not sure about Star & Arrow). Heart Clinic will have a room on the stage, a canopy and table, etc. Larry will be there to support parking (Thursday), Marilyn's motorhome will be available for hospitality. Reserved parking will still be available, free parking where it usually is. The unloading was an issue last year so this is being revisited. Just need a couple more volunteers to help. Need to laminate signs. Overflow handicap parking was another issue, after designated handicap area is full. Also need to revisit parking for judges. Need to just mark off where we want people to park (more specifically). walk-down 2 weeks before. Need to do a Grounds: Dave has 4 golf carts reserved; garbage and toilets reserved and will be delivered Thursday morning, 90 chairs and 38 tables ordered. Spider boxes will be picked up Thursday morning (also numbering sites and laying out power cords). Chuck will Russ about additional power needs. ~..

5 ~-- Roseanne is taking care of food (lunch) but needs information from Valerie concerning judges (gluten allergies, etc.). Ring Stewarding- many people volunteering from out of town for ring stewards. Losing 3 ring stewards from out of the area. Marilyn is going to talk to neighbor about Pony Club to help ring steward. Randy Roberts is going to be retiring; we will be doing a gift basket for him. Received materials from AKC's responsible dog ownership (bags, Frisbees, still waiting on pins as well). Also have pamphlets and color books from Michelle. Will be having a bagging party (building baskets). Trophies - Bonnie says done. Mary Brownlee (on-site nurse) will be there for the weekend. Valerie mentioned that Inland Empire is petitioning for a 3-day show. The number of specialties at our show continues to increase with requests. Handling Class -The Handling Class is going well, currently outside behind the Community Center. 7:00pm. Michelle will be talking to city about where we will be having handling class in the winter. Probably will need to start going inside before the end of the month. Bonnie gave Michelle $39.00 from handling class donations. Old Business - no unfinished business New Business Sarah brought up the issue on refunds for bitches in season. It was suggested that all requests for refunds for obedience/rally be treated on a case-by-case basis by the Board. Require written requests to the Board, and with the consideration of a partial refund. Michelle suggested that we leave the policy as it is and people who want refunds must approach the chairman and make that request. Deferred to general meeting discussion. RKC has purchased a video about dogs coming from wolves and how the breeds have become what they are through selective breeding. We will be showing the movie on Thursday (Sept 5 th ). Sept 5 Mutt Mixer at the Terra Blanca winery. New membership list- membership is basically complete (payments have been received). Roseanne said Petsmart is going to try to do a responsible pet owner presentation outside of Petsmart and looking for people to help. We may want to consider doing this. We have submitted our application for the Expo the last weekend in January. Bonnie recommended ideas for games for the kids.

6 Michelle is head of the nominating committee and will have a presentation at the October Pizza Feed (and nominations from the floor will be accepted). Voting at the November general meeting. Need to start thinking about where we want to have the Christmas Party. Will be brought up at the General Meeting. 30 or 40 people attended the picnic.
