Kali is a two year goldendoodle. Her favorite activities include lying in a canopy bed at CampBark, ruling the other dogs in the yard, carrying around her frisbee, begging for treats, and nudging the counselors if they stop petting her. Kali's family says that Kali moved from Boston after she decided that she needed a more active social life. At home Kali loves napping her Dads bed and just hanging out with her family. Ember is a one year old toy poodle. Her favorite activities include picking out which outfit she will wear that day, going to the dog spa, getting pampered and snuggling with her Mom. Everyone at Camp Bark loves waiting to see what outfit Ember will arrive in at Camp. Her days include hanging out at Camp Bark, coming home to a gourmet meal, and taking up a whole queen size bed for a nap. Everyone at Camp Bark absolutely adores Ember and Kali. 2 BASIC CLICKER TRAINING Camp Bark is now proud to offer a Basic Clicker Training course. Clicker training is a fun and effective way to teach obedience, solve behavior problems, and even teach your pet some tricks! Clicker training has been used with marine mammals for years and is a clear, effective way to communicate with your dog. A clicker is a small plastic box with a metal tab that makes a clicking sound when pressed. The click acts as a marker, to let your dog know the exact moment he is doing what you want. Throughout the course your dog will be able to learn to Sit, Stay, Down, Come, Walk on Leash, Leave It, Give, and Left and Right Spins. Tuition for each part of Basic Clicker Training is $125, which includes: clicker, bait bag, and clicker training manual. Basic Clicker Training Part 1 Thursdays 10/18-11/15 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM or Saturdays 10/20-11/17 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM REALLY RELIABLE RECALL One of the most important things that you can teach your dog is to come reliably when called. It can literally save your dog s life, as it will enable you to call your dog away from danger when your dog is not on lead. This course focuses on getting your dog to come when called every time. I'm Skittles and I am a 10 month old, female Pit Pull Terrier that is looking for a great home to call my own. I am a small girl at 33 lbs. but could stand to put on a few more pounds. I'm crate-trained and housebroken, so only need a bit more puppy training and I'll be the best little dog ever! Walks are a lot of fun and I enjoy seeing the neighborhood...or I would love to go running and keep you company! My foster mom says I'm a big baby because I love to curl up on her lap after a long hard day of being a pup and fall asleep watching the tube. I am a football fan... did I mention that? so Sundays I would love to watch the games with you!!! Your team is my team!!! Won't you please consider making me the newest member of your family? I'll be waiting... Hey Whaaaazzzzzzz Up???????? Red Fox here, well sometimes the ladies call me Foxy Red! I am as sweet as sugar, super funny, and I love the ladies. You would think a handsome stud, comedian of a dog like me, would have no problem finding a forever family and would not have to resort to pimp outfits and personal ads, but I am willing to try just about anything. I am a quirky guy that is quick to warm up to the women in my life but I take a little longer to trust men. My ideal home would be with someone who is willing to help me overcome some of my fears toward men. I am a lover, not a fighter! I love other dogs and life in general. What are my best person attributes? Well Besides being such a funny guy, I have also been told that I am a great kisser. Unlike so many macho guys, I love to snuggle and kiss. I get so excited to see you, that my whole body wiggles. I am ready to settle down and find a forever family. If you are looking for a big marshmallow of a dog, and don t mind big sloppy kisses, then you gotta meet me. Hi, my name is Duke. I am a three year old full-blooded boxer. I am very healthy, energetic and strong neutered male. I am submissive, silly, sweet, and greatly appreciate any affection given to me. I am very vocal when excited, and love to chase a laser pointer, squirrels and frogs if I can find them. I have a very funny under bite that my lip gets stuck on sometimes, but don't be afraid of it, I won't bite. I would love to live in a family with older children, no cats and a fenced-in yard. I am very protective (in a good way) of my family, and will alert you if someone is at the door.

7 Teresa Faucette may have been on vacation last week from her job as a nutritionist but that didn't stop her from working. She and her 4- year-old sheltie, Max, volunteer their time educating and entertaining people on a variety of topics such as dog safety, fire safety, nutrition and responsible pet ownership. Max and Faucette teach at day cares, elementary schools, middle schools and special events. Now they can add dog-troubled neighborhoods to the list. 'Max The Dog' teaches responsible pet ownership, dog safety by Deborah Parkhill Mullis dogreporter@earthlink.net The two recently traveled from Mint Hill to Indian Trail to teach a group of children gathered at the home of Darlene Davis in Cherokee Woods about responsible pet ownership and dog safety. According to Davis, the neighborhood has an ongoing problem with dogs running around loose. "People have resorted to carrying sticks," she said, noting that dogs recently attacked two bike riders as well as a homeowner who was getting out of her car on her own property. Although there hasn't been an incident in three months, Davis felt it was important to inform the children now that they are starting back to school. "So far they've have been lucky, but waiting at bus stops in the morning and walking home in the afternoon they need to know how to react to a strange dog," she said. Cherokee Woods isn t the only Indian Trail neighborhood having problems with man s best friend. For months residents have been complaining to town officials, writing to local papers and begging county commissioners for a solution to "large vicious dogs running free" in densely populated subdivisions. Town officials say leash laws are not high on the priority list so residents like Davis are finding their own safety solutions. 8 CAMPERS WE LL MISS Unfortunately we as Pet Owners have to face the harsh reality that one day we will have to say goodbye to our beloved companions. Camp Bark was deeply saddened to learn of the loss of some of our favorite campers. This newsletter (our first edition) is dedicated to the memory of Griffin Schmitt (pictured), Tess Beauchmin (pictured), Sophi Thornton, and Chi-Chi Starkey and the inspiration behind Camp Bark, Daisy Starkey. We look forward to the day we can see their sweet faces again Rainbow Bridge Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine and our friends are warm and comfortable. Camp Bark Staff All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they each miss someone very special, someone who was left behind. Griffin Schmitt They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly, he breaks from the group, flying over the green grass, faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into those trusting eyes, so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart.
