I must buy a rt at once where's the souvenir sho? don't see: her hidden heart a wooden lank that's all not even canvas. Rottg. While the vitors smoked and the lightbulbs flashed and the babies screamed and threw rattles on the careted floors before a ersex cage and hung a crimson barrier on golden stands and glued the 'No mokg' signs to the walls four major languages. nd eseranto. uch a small sle: her eyes, so far away. he background seformed the acid colours of a dream fadg to a memory of long dead fgers twtg the brtles of a brush and catchg a sle then, dust.
2 Program Notes Leanne wrote: I kee cong back to th oem. he Mona La has always fascated me, and somethg credibly sad about the icture for me. I also fd her bone structure terestg, and th work focused on the fact that not only the famous sle that was ated long gone, so too are the fgers that ated her. In settg Leanne s oem I have tried to create a dreamlike texture ( acid colours of a dream and smoky hues of black, tan and green ). In laces the texture vanhes to cature the solitude and loneless ( such a small sle, so far away ). he section about the vitors (smokg, with flashg lightbulbs, and screang babies) set (somewhat ironically) a hay relaxed style, but, significantly, without any assion or real emotion: it simly a somewhat retty tune. he iece ends with a sad fade on the fal word: dust, emhased with a sibilant s. In comosg th iece I ve tried to write simly, and to make the iece more readily erformable than some of my other works. lthough the choir does divide to multile arts, the iece almost entirely /, rhythcally simle, and does not use any shars or flats. Performance Notes he vowel sounds of he, Is and In should be identical. Crescendos and Duendos above the orano art aly to all arts, and those above the (first) enor art aly to all of the men. he first tenors have a few glsandos (e.g. bars and ). Please be careful to only sg glsandos where are exlicitly marked. For examle, should not be a glsando bar 6. (referably female) sgle voice should read the text bar. h should be timed so that it ends around the begng of bar 7, and certaly before the sorano entry on don t. While the text beg soken the choir should sg very quietly, to enable the seaker to be heard. It a good idea to select a seaker who able to roject (erhas an actor or lecturer?). he crescendo bar 7 only for the ltos other arts should change their dynacs from to f (soranos) or mf (men) suddenly. he altos have the tune bars 09, and should be allowed to come through. he sorano art bars 650 should be gentle, and should not overower the alto art. In bars 616 brackets the lyrics dicate consonants that should not be sung. For examle, bar 61 the second tenors sg smokee without ever ronouncg the ng. he solot (sorano or alto) should be sourced from the choir, and should have a light clear sound rather than a full oeratic tone. In the fal two bars, the women and first tenors should susta an s sound, startg almost audibly, then rg volume ( bar 101), and then ( bar 10) fadg away to nothg. o dust.
