It is in recognition of the need to adopt state of the art technology that Zycom Surveillance (Nig) Ltd, a digital it surveillance security company partnered with Datamars, a global leading manufacturer of animal Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), in developing a creative and sustainable solution to eradicate cattle rustling and related incidents. Zycom further collaborates with Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) who constitutes the highest body of commercial and privately held cattle ranchers/owners, to accelerate deployment of the technology across the nation. Zycom believes that meeting the objectives of ensuring that every cattle is identified and monitored, would restore safety and peace in our communities, thereby preserving and improving our way of life.

4 HOW THE SYSTEM WORKS The Bolus with Passive RFID is invented and developed by Datamars. It is a special ceramic capsule resistant to stomach acids that contains a battery-free RFID transponder for life-time identification. The system issues each cattle with a uniquely encrypted identification number used to identify, monitor and track the cattle anywhere. The bolus is inserted orally with a bolus applicator at the back of animal tongue, so it will be swallowed by natural reflex, avoiding any damage to the animal s throat. By the weight of the ceramic, the Bolus settles in the recticum with close to zero losses, and where it can t be reached or removed by rustlers. Datamars RFID Readers are used to capture identification registered in the bolus and store numbers in the farm database. The matching identification number is printed on the visual ear tag designed to guarantee the highest retention rates, and applied with safe and easy applicator, to enable farmers and ranchers efficiently identify and manage their livestock.

It is safely inserted orally and resides in the cattle recticum with no safety issues to the meat or discomfort to the cattle. An external Ear Tag with matching identification number with the bolus is inserted at the ear of the cattle for visual identification. It establishes proof of cattle ownership and provides theft prevention; It reduces cattle rustling and related incidents; It provides cattle genetics and breeding improvement; It enables on-farm cattle management; It enables traceability of disease and provides food safety; It meets international food safety standards and enables preservation of export meat market.

6 RFID PROCESS CENTERS Zycom cattle Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) process centers are strategically located at farms with sizeable cattle population and located within comfortable distance radius for onshore/in-house and offshore/surrounding smaller farms cattle identification processing. There are Regional and Miyetti Allah Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) process centers for the following services: Safely insert the bolus in cattle recticum; Provide cattle with a life-time unique Frequency Identification (RFID) number used to monitor cattle anywhere; Create cattle profile specifying the breed, ownership, owner s farm location, cattle weight, state of health, etc. Insert ear tag with cattle matching unique identification number at the ear of cattle for visual identification. 7 NUMBERING SYSTEM The entire ISO consists of 23 digits transponder code; the first digit is 1 (indicating Animal ID); the last 15 digits starts with country code NGA (566 software code) (per ISO 3166), followed by a 12 digit Animal ID. The first 2 digits (starting from 10, 20, etc.) of the 12 digit Animal ID is farm regional location code and the last 10 digits is the unique cattle identification number. Zycom Animal Identification code structure t is in compliant with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Zycom Animal Identification devices are tested & fully certified by the International Committee for Animal Recording (ICAR).

8 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Why should I identify my cattle? The lifetime identification of your cattle protects your valuable asset from theft, and enables disease control and temperature monitoring. It also makes it possible for your cattle to be tracked and recovered if rustled or lost and returned back to you. Why should I consider the recticum bolus against the skin Injected device for my cattle? The Bolus is a special ceramic capsule that is resistant to stomach acids and contains a battery-free RFID transponder. It is safely inserted in the recticum of the animal, where it can t be reached or removed by rustlers, and causes no discomfort to the animal. It has no effect on animal meat and the process is recommended, certified, and approved by the United States Food & Drugs Administration (FDA), European Union (EU), International Meat market, International Committee for Animal Recording (ICAR), etc., to be safe and used on farm or consumable animals. Skin injected device is made of glass and the injection process with the possibility of the device breaking, may cause injury to the animal. The device utilizes skin electrodes to establish communication; whereby, upon recognizing a foreign implant, the animal body mounts a complex response on both short and long term scales that may adversely affect function of the device and more importantly, health of the animal tissue. Large scale tests demonstrated that only about 80% of skin injected transponders were recovered, and only 52% of these were successfully read after recovery, as the extraction process (with glass breaking), influences readability. Post slaughter recovery of injected transponders is problematic and as a result, due to potential risks of transponders entering the food chain, the process is not recommended or approved by the FDA, ICAR, EU, International Meat market, etc., to be used on farm animals.

9 How do I process my cattle? There are Regional and Miyetti Allah (MACBAN) RFID Process Centers close to you to process and issue your cattle with a unique RFID number and ear tag. MACBAN cooperatives should contact their local cooperate office for the location nearest to them or call Regional customers should contact our dispatch center at or us at info@zycomsurvng.com The process center would insert the bolus in your cattle safely and issue your cattle with a unique identification number. Your cattle profile associated with the identification number would be established in the center database. The profile would register your cattle breed, owner, owner farm location, weight, state of health, etc. An Ear Tag with your cattle unique identification number that matches the number in the bolus would be inserted at the ear of your cattle for visual identification. At what age should my cattle be processed for identification? Our Bolus RFID process is safe for cattle after birth; however, we recommend three (3) months after birth as cattle is resident in the farm.

Contact the center where your cattle was processed or our dispatch center. A project manager with RFID reader will be dispatched to scan and provide you with your cattle identification number from the bolus inserted in your cattle. Why should I verify the identity of my cattle before point of sale or slaughter? The habit of verifying my cattle identification before point of sale or slaughter is necessary because: It would validate your ownership and also signal if the cattle was stolen; It would discourage rustlers and help eradicate cattle rustling in the nation; It would provide your cattle health information and help to control spread of disease. How do I transfer ownership of my cattle at point of sale? Contact the center where your cattle was processed or our dispatch center and provide the following: Your cattle visual ear tag identification number; The new owner information for y your cattle p profile update p on transfer of ownership; A project manager will be dispatched to provide your cattle identification if ear tag is missing.

11 What will I do when my cattle is stolen or missing? Contact the center where your cattle was processed or our dispatch center and provide the following: Your registered cattle identification number; Your cattle profile will be updated to reflect cattle being stolen or missing; Federal Cattle Rangers or the closest law enforcement agent will be informed and alerted. What happens when a stolen cattle is discovered at point of sale or slaughter? The Project Manager assigned to the location shall immediately contact the Federal Cattle Rangers or the closest Law Enforcement agent and proceed as follows: Scan the bolus in the cattle with RFID reader to provide cattle unique identification number and proof of ownership before the agent; Contact cattle registered rightful owner and report recovery of stolen cattle, as the Law Enforcement agent or Cattle Ranger dispatched to the location takes possession of the stolen cattle.
