The quality of stock presented by the YFC Members was tremendous again this year and a real credit to their stockman ship, especially amongst the 304 ewes with 491 lambs at foot, given what can only be described as a testing lambing time. Eleven individual clubs exhibited ewes with lambs at foot, with the standard of stock impressing judge David Morris of Buckinghamshire who awarded overall champion pen of couples to George Lee of Newton St Cyres YFC with his pen of four rising 4T Suffolk x Mules. The ewes were purchased from Exeter Livestock Centre last summer as lambed Shearlings so also claimed the 100 prize money from Kivells, they were well presented with 8 matching Charollais lambs and sold at 310 ( 103.33/life) to the Pengelly family of Cullompton. Reserve Champion rosette went to Jenny Tratt of Clawton YFC with 4 Suffolk cross ewes with 7 Texel lambs that sold at 315 to last year s judge and the largest buyer of the day, Henry Johnson of Bridport. There were ten other pens over 300 selling to a top of 352 for 4 ewes with 9 lambs ( 108.31/life), being Axminster YFC s Champion pen from Warren Herrod. Laura Peeke claimed Dartmouth YFC s Champion honours and sold her 4 with 7 at 340 ( 123.64/life), Harry Ware of Exe Valley sold four FM Dorset ewes with 7 purebred lambs well at 330 ( 120/life) as Henry May of Newton St Cyres sold his best Dorset double at 325 ( 108.33/life). Axminster YFC took many more of the top spots with some superb pens of doubles from Emily Gay at 320 ( 106.67/life), Chloe Burrough just behind at 318 ( 106/life), Alice Gay at 315 ( 105/life) and Harriet Burrough at 305 ( 101.67/life). Elsewhere Scott Dennis topped Totnes YFC s trade with doubles at 310 ( 103.33/life), a price matched by Josh Gale with doubles from Newton Abbot and Adam Smaridge of Kenn Valley sold his best at 305 ( 101.67/life). Plenty more pens of not quite doubles from 250 to 298 or around the 100 per life and only a few lots of staler coated sorts or younger lamb outfits from 55 to 75 per life. Averages for couples stood at an impressive 234 an outfit or 90.80 per life. An equally impressive line-up of 32 orphan lambs were headed by the Champion, an outstanding Charollais ram lamb from Lydia Hopper of Exe Valley that topped the sale at 132 followed by the Reserve Champion, a heavyweight crossbred lamb from Daniel Stevens of Culm Valley that realised 116, a price shared with his sister Rachel. Others to 102 for Alice Giles of Bow, 97 for a pair from Molly Clist of Culm Valley and 96 for Gracie Rice of Exe Valley.
