APPLICATIONS: Can be found on our web site www.ocodb.org Disclaimer: the views and opinions expressed herein do not necessarily represent the views and opinions of President s Message, Dear Members: Next Meeting Monday, July 9 2018 General Club Business also talking about upcoming Trial And finally, it s time to prepare for our July Obedience Trial. I am especially looking forward to our July trial this year since last year we had to cancel due to the canine flu outbreak (I still get headache thinking about it). Thank goodness, this year looks like clear sailing. With all trials, we need plenty of help. As I am writing this, Ralph has many positions covered but more workers are always needed. Last minute problems, people who cancel, and other issues mean we need extra people to just be available. Anybody can help whether you are experienced or a beginner. All of the tasks are easy even I can do them. Bringing leashes from one end of the ring to the other, checking off the dog s name as they arrive, lining up the next dog going into the ring each one of these needs a worker and it s needed for every ring. Finally, at the end of the day, we are all tired and anxious to leave for home. But we need members to stay a little longer and help us clean up the building and prepare for the next day. I will be there for end of day cleanup on both Saturday and Sunday. Please join me. Pat Mozden

This is not a big job but would be best done by a member who is already a CGC evaluator. If you are able to help us with this, please get in touch with Pat Mozden at patmozden@cfl.rr.com.

Page 4 Chatter-Barks Sincere Sympathy to Anna Johnson, I lost my precious border collie, Java. She was 14 years old and only recently started having health problems. July Obedience & Rally Trials held on July 14th & 15th Please bring something for the refreshment table such as, cookies, chips, brownies, bananas, grapes, cupcakes. Your help will be Greatly Appreciated!!! Gone But Never Forgotten Cleaning Day at Training Center will be on Sunday, July 8 at 1pm. Page 6 Chatter-Barks Agility Trial News! Awesome news everyone MADTA (Marion Alachua Dog Training Association) will be running FAST CAT in conjunction with our OCOD Agility Trial in January at Silver Sands Bridle Club. What is Fast Cat? According to the AKC.org web site... You no longer have to wonder how fast your dog can run. FAST CAT which stands for Coursing Ability Test is a timed 100-yard dash where dogs run one at a time, chasing a lure. It s over before you know it and it s nothing short of awe-inspiring to watch your dog run at top speed, ears back, eyes focused, legs strong. And if your dog is really fast, you might earn bragging rights if his name makes onto our list of top 20 fastest dogs by breed! Although it is a relatively new sport, its popularity has spread like wildfire. No wonder. According to one AKC official, The FAST CAT provides a terrific opportunity to introduce new participants to the world of AKC sports as one of the few events where all that is needed to compete is a dog s natural instincts. Competition Eligibility To participate in FAST CAT, your dog must be: At least 12 months of age. In both excellent physical and mental condition and up-to-date on all inoculations and health checkups. Have an AKC number via one of the following: AKC Registration as one of the AKC s recognized breeds. AKC Canine Partners, which is for mixed-breed dogs and dogs ineligible for AKC registration. Purebred Alternative Listing (PAL) program, which is for purebred dogs that cannot be fully registered with the AKC to participate in AKC events. Foundation Stock Service (FSS), which is for recorded breeds on the road to full AKC recognition. In addition: Spayed and neutered dogs are eligible to compete in these events and are welcome. Blind dogs are not eligible. No dog can compete if it is taped or bandaged or in any way has anything attached to it for medical purposes. Dogs of these breeds with Conditional registration are not eligible to participate. Dogs with Limited Registration are eligible to participate. An inspection committee will also inspect each dog for lameness and fitness to compete. FAST CAT premium will be sent out by MATDA and will be included in our Agility Trial premium. For more information about FAST CAT cut and past the following link: https://www.akc.org/sports/coursing/fast-cat/ Thank you Janet Berry for coordinating this event! We hope you plan on attending! It should be a lot of fun! Linda Hudak

Page 8 Chatter-Barks Obedience Club of Daytona General Meeting Minutes June 11, 2018 Meeting was called to order by Pat Mozden at 7:00PM. Sign in sheet was passed around and is attached to hard copy of minutes. 21 members were present and no guests. Wins and brags were announced and will be posted in Chatterbarks if you send them to Joan. Minutes of the last meeting were published in the newsletter and so were not read at the meeting. No additions or corrections were made. Report of the secretary: New Household membership was Peggy & Lee Shavers who is not sure what she would like to help out with yet. Report of the Treasurer: May Expenses: $10,654.08 (Trial was ~$3.5K and Rent ~$2.8K) May Income: $8,016.00 (Classes ~$5.9K and Seminar ~$1K) May Scent Work Trial income so far is 13,160.00 and expenses were $3,224.65 Kathy reported that we have filed an extension with the IRS for our 2017 taxes. She also reported that those accountants doing our taxes can help clean up our accounting in Quick Books for approximately $100. It was agreed that we should go ahead with this. Pat suggested we have a committee review our budget before the end of year in order to determine where we should focus our resources and if there is anything that we should eliminate because it is not generating enough income. Report of the Board of Directors: Companion Dog Sports: Kris Davenport will look into OCOD hosting a companion dog sport event. First we would need to hold a seminar, but not need to hold a match. The trials are more like AKC Wild Card classes and are a more relaxed way for people to get into obedience competition. Dog Aerobics: LindaH will have an article in Chatterbarks to see if we have enough interest to hold classes probably in 2019. New Vacuum: is here and was used at our last cleaning day. Online Payments: No new news to report we re still looking into this. know. CGC Chair: We need a new chair for this. LindaH is asking all who are evaluators to let her Seminar Chair: Reneé can schedule seminars on our OCOD calendar and collect the fees, but we need someone to be in charge of all the logistics that go in to holding a seminar. Anna will help out. (Continued on page 9)

Page 9 Chatter-Barks Job Distribution: We need members to volunteer to clean up after trials. Ralph has a sign up sheet for the trial that includes spots for this task. November Scent Work Trial: AKC rules only allow 12 of any event in one year. Our August trial will be our 12 th trial, so we cannot hold another until January, 2019. Scent Work Classes: We will continue to hold SW classes and need an instructor and assistant for the times when Lind will be away. Vaccination Records and Signed Waivers: Pat will send out info regarding the fact that we will be more diligent in maintaining our signed waivers and vaccination records. Everyone entering our building will need to have current documents on file with us. Old Business: time. Water: Anyone who uses our bottled water please be sure to bring a case from time to Crates Left in Building: Reneé reminded us that all crates need to be moved to the back of the building or taken home during trials if the owner is not entered in a trial. Exhibitors have commented that there is not enough crating space. All crates in the building should have owners name on them please. You can store your personal equipment inside them and lock them. New Business: Dog Related Items For Sale: We will start allowing members to post a 3x5 card on the bulletin board in the hallway that has info about items members may want to sell. Please date the notices so they can be removed after 30 days. OB & Rally Trial Judges Dinner: Ralph pointed out that all members are welcome to this dinner. Please let him know if you would like to attend. It is a good way to get to know the judges and ask questions you may have. C Match: LindaS reported we will hold the C Match on July 7 and we need judges and stewards. Judges and stewards get a free run. Cleaning Day: The cleaning day held the day after the match will count toward the second half of helping to keep our building looking like something we are all proud to call our training building. Respectfully Submitted, Chris Franczek
