*New Program Chair* I would love to see if we can find a Program Chair for our meetings. I think one reason we do not have a big attendance at our General Membership meetings is because we need to make people/members excited about attending. If any of you have a great desire to help promote our club s identity in the dog world, to get members to come and hopefully bring new members in, I would love to talk to you. You can perhaps rethink how we have our meetings, where we have them and what they should be about. Please contact me Ane (425) 788-8029 or anbrus@comcast.net *New Golden West Editor* I would like to see if there is anybody in the club, that would be interested in particip[ating creating the Club s Newsletter, The Golden West. I have enjoyed doing it for a year, but after taking on the Presidency of the club, I am a bit overwhelmed (I do have to work too). Perhaps somebody can put the information together that needs to go in the newsletter, text and pictures, and I can copy and paste it into the my program. I use Adobe InDesign, but any publishing program can be used. Please let me know if you are interested! Gems from the Emergency Prepareness Meeting Sandy Scudder I suggest that everyone think of the gems that they received at the Jan. Meeting on emergency preparedness and that we post them in the GW. Dave & I have been to 2 of them so I might be posting from our first experience. 1. Your neighbors need to be your first line of defense. If you can t get home to take care of your animals can you call or message your neighbors - probably message as the telephones will be tied up. Do your neighbors know how to get into your house, identify which animal is which, location of food or medicine etc. (Best if you have a couple of back- up neighbors.) 2. If at home and a major disaster occurs plan to be on your own for 14 days. Have enough food and water for that time - a gallon of water/person and per dog. (Yes, you are correct, 14 gallons for each dog times how many dogs and people. Adds up fast!) You can access water from your water tank and you can fill up your bathtub. Once you have done that, turn your water off as the longer the disaster lasts the threat from contamination greatly increases. 3. Have cash and coins on hand at home. Electricity will be out and you won t be able to pay for anything with a card. OK, this is a start. Feel free to add onto my suggestions. THANK YOU Sandy page 2

Linda Johnson, our Treasurer, brought up some more gems from the last meeting too: Proof of Pet Ownership: It was suggested that you have ready access to proof of pet ownership. Things like their pictures on your cell phone, and having their microchip numbers available too. Also, have rubber gloves, collars/leases and poop bags readily available in a kit. THANK YOU Linda! To All WSDTA Member Clubs: Update from WSDTA copy of e-mail It has been over five months since our initial press release dated September 9, 2016 and 10 months since the April 2016 public scoping meeting regarding the Snoqualmie Wildlife Areas (SWA). There has been a considerable amount of work done with much more to do. As can be seen in the attachment, we have met several times with WDFW voicing our issues and concerns over the loss of training grounds in the SWA, primarily Cherry Valley. We have testified before the Fish and Wildlife Commission and are working toward having the Commission briefed by WDFW and to set the stage for us to give public testimony so we can give voice to our concerns, In addition we have met with several key WDFW managers trying to move our cause forward. We have also met with a couple of our senators, asking for their support. This process is a continual ebb and flow, you seem to make progress one day only to loose ground the next. If nothing else, at this point WDFW knows that we are not going away and that we will continue working toward an acceptable solution to the current loss of dog training grounds There is a lot of information in this attachment, please feel free to contact me if you have questions. Greeting members, Judges Selection Committee The Judges selection committee is in the process of collecting names for our upcoming 2018 specialty. Names of the prior judges used by Evergreen Golden Retriever Club, Inland Empire, Pacific Rim, Western Regional, and GRCA are also listed for you to review and decide if we should use any of these judges again for our specialty. You the member may select up to 3 names per category. Voting and Non-voting members may submit names for obedience, rally, conformation, sweeps, and junior. Once names are collected by February 28th, we will follow up with a Survey Monkey vote, to decide the top 4 names to contact for 2018. Families with multiple voting members may cast their votes separately if they submit a second email address to the committee. Please submit your recommendations to Kathy Fisk @ billfisk1@gmail.com Based on total votes, we will select the top 3 judges to contact for our 2018 specialty. If the first selected judge has conflict with our date, we will then move to the 2nd judge, and so on. Both voting and non-voting memers are allowed to submit names and vote for the judges for 2018. If both spouses are members of the club, both spouses can vote, if you can provide the club with a second email address. Or, one spouse may mail in their vote to the judges selection committee. Any questions, please feel free to contact the Judges selection committee which consists of Kym Anton, Kathy Fisk, and Deb Pampiks. Respectfully submitted, Kathy Fisk, Kym Anton, Deb Pampiks **There will be a copy of a list of Judges from the last 10 years in the Member s only section on our website!** A very educational Seminar: The Golden Retriever Club of BC is presenting a seminar: The Golden Retriever: Form, Function and the Breed Standard Saturday April 8, 2017 Here is the flyer page 4
