Canine Courtesy: All dogs must be kept on leash or in crates at all times. Dogs off leash will be asked to leave. You are responsible for picking up after the animals in your care. It is expressly understood that every dog at this trial is in the care, custody, and control of its owner or handler during the entire time the dog is on the trial premises. ESSCLI is not responsible for the loss of, damage to, or death of any dog exhibited, or the possessions of any participant, whether the result of accident or any other cause. NOTE: Dogs not entered are not allowed beyond the parking area. Entered dogs and handlers are permitted on the trial grounds June 17, 2018, from 7 AM until 7 PM. Dogs are not permitted in search areas before their event. No exhibitors will be allowed in the search area without permission. It is not appropriate to visit the trial location prior to the trial date. Many search locations are real-life environments and such visits may risk the host losing the opportunity to use the location in the future. EXHIBITOR INFORMATION 1. All interior and container classes will be held indoors. No indoor crating. 2. AKC Scent Work classes are open to all dogs that are at least six (6) months of age that are individually registered with the AKC, recorded in the FSS program, dogs with PAL/ILP numbers or dogs enrolled with the AKC Canine Partners program. A dog that is individually registered with an acceptable foreign registry who is not yet registered with the AKC may compete for 30 days under the foreign registration number. After the 30 days, if not AKC number has been obtained and no extension has been granted, any qualifying legs earned subsequently under the foreign number will be cancelled. 3. Dogs with physical challenges (including amputees) are eligible to participate provided that, in the opinion of the judge, they display no signs of physical discomfort and can safely complete the search. Dogs with bandages, sutures or visible wounds are not eligible. Deaf dogs and blind dogs are allowed to enter. Dogs that are both deaf and blind are able to participate so long as the handler is in control of the dog at all times, the dog can complete the requirements of the class and the dog does not appear to be under undue stress in the opinion of the judge. 4. It is recommended that reactive and/or spatially challenged dogs wear a red bandana (to be provided by the dog s handler) to help signal others that the dog needs extra space from other dogs. 5. Bitches in season shall not be eligible to participate. Withdrawals after the closing date for bitches in season will be fully refunded if received no later than one half hour prior to the start of the trial. 6. All dogs must be on a 6 leash when not being tested. At the handler s option dogs may wear collars, leashes and harnesses. Please see Chapter 5, Section 8 for requirement and prohibitions. 7. Exhibitors are expected to be familiar with the rules and regulations. 9. Proof of current rabies must be furnished upon request. 10. No concessions will be available at the trial site. Wait List Information: ESSCLI is offering a wait list to fill openings created by withdrawn entries after the trial s closing date/time. A maximum of 25 entries per trial will be placed on the club's wait list. All entries, including wait listed entries, must be received by the Trial Secretary prior to Thursday, May 31, 2018 8:00 pm (Eastern Daylight Time). No entries may be withdrawn with a refund after closing on May 31, 2018. If a withdrawn entry is replaced by a wait listed entry, a full refund will be issued for the withdrawn entry. Any wait listed entry that does not move off the wait list into the trial will receive a full refund. Search and Ring Conditions: Staging Area will be out of view of search area(s). Staging area will include warm-up and waiting area, as well as the secretary table for check-ins and posting of running order and results. The Handler s Briefing will take place in view of the search area prior to the start of each class, after the hide(s) have been set and after the Demo Dog has run. In the Handler s Briefing the judge will explain if there s an off-leash option, number of hides, maximum height of hides and maximum time for the search. NO DOGS are to be present during the Handler s Briefing. A warm up area will be provided. For Novice classes the warm up area will consist of one (1) Birch Container and may also contain blank containers. For Advanced classes the warm up area will consist of two (2) Birch and/or Anise Containers and may also contain blank containers. Exhibitors should limit their warm-up to (2) two minutes or less. The warm-up area is to be used exclusively for warming up the handler-dog team prior their run. The warm-up area is not for training or relieving of the dog. Crating space will not be available inside or outside the trial buildings. Plan to crate your dogs in your vehicle. Exhibitors are responsible for cleaning up after their dog(s). Any exhibitor failing to do so may be excused without benefit of refund if the Event Committee deems the exhibitor to be in violation of this requirement. A $5.00 processing fee per dog will be deducted for ANY refunds. RINGSIDE Judges are not required to wait for dogs. The Owner of each dog is solely responsible for having it ready at the search area when it is to be judged. The Club has no responsibility to provide service through a public address system or stewards or runners for the purpose of calling or locating dogs that are not brought into the ring when required. EXHIBITOR CHECK-IN: At check-in you will receive your armband number. Once the time and location for check-in is determined all exhibitors will be notified by email. Exhibitors MUST check-in EACH day they are entered. Claims will be arbitrated as set forth on the Official AKC Entry Form for this event. GENERAL ENTRY INFORMATION Entry Fees: Fee is $25.00 per class per trial (includes $3.50 AKC recording fee). Make all checks and money orders payable to English Springer Spaniel Club of Long Island. Foreign exhibitors must make fees payable in U.S. FUNDS. Mail checks or money orders with entries. Secretary assumes no responsibility for cash sent through the mail.. INCLUDE SIGNATURE WAIVER ON OVERNIGHT OR EXPRESS DELIVERY. Entry fees shall not be refunded in the event that a dog is absent, disqualified, excused by Veterinarian or Judge, or barred from competition by action of Trial Committee. If because of riots, civil disturbances, or other acts beyond the control of the management it is impossible to open or to complete the trial, no refund of entry fee will be made. Extreme weather conditions, such as, but not limited to snow storms, hurricanes, lightning, or extreme heat, must be considered for the health and safety of the dogs, exhibitors and spectators. The well being of the dogs, exhibitors, and spectators is of paramount importance and, in the event it is necessary to cancel or stop the show before completion, no refund of entry fee will be made. Entries: Telegraph, Telephone, Email, and Unsigned entries cannot be accepted. Entries not on Official AKC Entry Forms and Photocopies of Entry Forms without Agreement and rules on the reverse side of the Official AKC Entry Form are NOT ACCEPTABLE. No Entries shall be made and no entry shall be accepted which specifies any conditions as to its acceptance. Post-Dated Checks and Returned Checks do not constitute a valid entry fee. The Trial Secretary will add a collection fee of $30.00 to each returned check. Exhibitors are responsible for errors in making out entry forms, whoever may make such errors, and no entry fee will be refunded in event of such errors or cancellation of entries after the published closing of entries. Declining Entries: The English Springer Spaniel Club of Long Island may decline any entries or may remove any dog from its event for cause, but in each such instance shall file good and sufficient reasons for doing so with the American Kennel Club. PRIZES AND AWARDS Trial classes: Ribbons will be awarded to the 1 st through 4 th place dogs in each class. Qualifying ribbons will be awarded to each dog receiving a qualifying score. Dogs must qualify to receive placement rosettes. Ribbons for placements in each Trial class: First Place...Blue Second Place...Red Third Place...Yellow Fourth Place...White Qualifying Score...Dark Green Title Ribbons on entries that earn their title during any of the elements offered.
