Doc. 10.85 CONSIDERATION OF PROPOSALS FOR AMENDMENT OF APPENDICES I AND II 1. In accordance with the provisions of sub-paragraph a) of paragraph 1 of Article XV of the Convention, any Party may propose an amendment to Appendix I or II for consideration at the next meeting of the Conference of the Parties. Any proposal for amendment shall be communicated to the Secretariat at least 150 days before the meeting of the Conference. 2. By 10 January 1997, i.e. 150 days before the opening date of the tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties, 30 Parties communicated to the Secretariat their proposals for amendment of Appendices I and II, for consideration at the tenth meeting. These were Argentina, Australia, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Botswana, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Cuba, Denmark, Finland, Germany, India, Japan, Jordan, Madagascar, Mexico, Namibia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, South Africa, Switzerland, Thailand, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, the United States of America, Venezuela and Zimbabwe. Most of the proposals were accompanied by supporting statements presented in the format recommended by the Conference of the Parties (Annex 6 of Resolution Conf. 9.24, adopted at the ninth meeting, Fort Lauderdale, 1994). 3. All these proposals were communicated to contracting or signatory States of the Convention through a Notification dated 29 January 1997. 4. The proposals are divided into the following four categories and the supporting statements are in the documents specified in the Annex: 5. proposals submitted pursuant to Resolution on Ranching (see document Doc. 10.86); 6. proposals resulting from the periodic reviews by the Animals and Plants Committees (see document Doc. 10.87); 7. proposals concerning export quotas for specimens of Appendix-I or -II species (see document Doc. 10.88); and 8. other proposals [see document Doc. 10.89 (Rev.)]. 9. The list of all these proposals for amendments is in the Annex to this document. 10. The "proposals resulting from the periodic reviews by the Animals and Plants Committees" and the "other proposals" are listed in the same taxonomic and alphabetical order as that followed for the establishment of Appendices I and II of the Convention. The names of the proposing Parties are given between brackets. 11. The supporting statements for all the proposals are combined in a separate set of documents, numbered Prop. 10.1, Prop. 10.2, etc., following the sequence in the Annex to this document.
