AKC Code of Sportsmanship PREFACE: The sport of purebred dog competitive events dates prior to 1884, the year of AKC s birth. Shared values of those involved in the sport include principles of sportsmanship. They are practiced in all sectors of our sport: conformation, performance and companion. Many believe that these principles of sportsmanship are the prime reason why our sport has thrived for over one hundred years. With the belief that it is useful to periodically articulate the fundamentals of our sport, this code is presented. Sportsmen respect the history, traditions and integrity of the sport of purebred dogs. Sportsmen commit themselves to values of fair play, honesty, courtesy, and vigorous competition, as well as winning and losing with grace. Sportsmen refuse to compromise their commitment and obligation to the sport of purebred dogs by injecting personal advantage or consideration into their decisions or behavior. The sportsman judge judges only on the merits of the dogs and considers no other factors. The sportsman judge or exhibitor accepts constructive criticism. The sportsman exhibitor declines to enter or exhibit under a judge where it might reasonably appear that the judge s placements could be based on something other than the merits of the dogs. The sportsman exhibitor refuses to compromise the impartiality of a judge. The sportsman respects the AKC bylaws, rules, regulations and policies governing the sport of purebred dogs. Sportsmen find that vigorous competition and civility are not inconsistent and are able to appreciate the merit of their competition and the effort of competitors. Sportsmen welcome, encourage and support newcomers to the sport. Sportsmen will deal fairly with all those who trade with them. Sportsmen are willing to share honest and open appraisals of both the strengths and weaknesses of their breeding stock. Sportsmen spurn any opportunity to take personal advantage of positions offered or bestowed upon them. Sportsmen always consider as paramount the welfare of their dog. NOTICE TO EXHIBITORS ENTRY FEES $30.00 for the first entry of each dog except Puppy Class, Bred-By-Exhibitor Class-$24.00 (as first entry) including $3.00 AKC event fee and a $.50 AKC recording fee. $24.00 for each additional entry of the same dog. Rally i considered a second entry of same dog. Jrs 20.00 as a first entry NC as a second entry, CLOSING DATE for entries is 12:00 Noon Wednesday, September 20 2017 (at Show Secretary s Address) after which entries cannot be accepted, cancelled or substituted as provided for in Chapter 11, Section 5 of the Dog Show Rules. THE SHOW will be open at 6 am and close at 6 pm no dogs allowed in building over night. AN AKC RECORDING FEE OF $.50 AND AN AKC SERVICE FEE OF $3:00 will be required for each dog entered at any licensedor Member Club Show, Obedience Trial or Tracking Test and a $3.00 Event Service Fee for the Rally entries. If a dog is entered in more than one class in a Rally Event, the AKC Recording Fee and Service Fee is to be collected on the first entry only. (AKC Rules Applying to Dog Shows Chapter 11 section 2) An AKC Recording Fee of $3.00 will be required for each entry in any Licensed or Member Club Rally Trial. If dog is entered in more than one class in a Rally Event, the AKC Recording Fee is to be collected on each of the entries of that dog. (AKC Rally Regulations, Chapter 1 Se All Recording Fees are paid to the American Kennel Club. RETURNED CHECKS do not constitute a valid entry fee. ALL DOGS PRESENT must be held on leash or confined to their crates except when being judged or when In the exercising ring. JUDGES WILL NOT WAIT FOR ANY DOG HOLDING UP A CLASS. Owners or agents alone are responsible for the presence of their dog in the judging ring when their classes are called to be judges. CLASS CASH PRIZES will be paid in the ring to the person showing the dog. Claims for prize money must be made in the ring before the judging of that bred is over, and the Superintendent s Office advised at once. The Superintendents and show giving Club disclaim any liability for cash prizes after the judging of the breed is over.

In consideration of the acceptance of this entry and of the holding of this event and of the opportunity to have the dog judged and to win prizes, ribbons, or trophies, I (we) agree to hold the AKC, the event-giving club, their members,directors, governors, officers, agents, superintendents or event secretary and the owner and/or lessor of the premise sand any provider of services that are necessary to hold this event and any employees or volunteers of the aforementioned parties, and any AKC approved judge, judging at this event, harmless from any claim for loss or injury which maybe alleged to have been caused directly or indirectly to any person or thing by the act of this dog while in or about the event premises or grounds or near any entrance thereto, and I (we) personally assume all responsibility and liability for any such claim; and I (we) further agree to hold the aforementioned parties harmless from any claim for loss, injury or damage to this dog. Additionally, I (we) hereby assume the sole responsibility for and agree to indemnify, defend and save the aforementioned parties harmless from any and all loss and expense (including legal fees) by reason of the liability imposed by law upon any of the aforementioned parties for damage because of bodily injuries, including death at any time resulting there from, sustained by any person or persons, including myself (ourselves), or on account of damage to property, arising out of or in consequence of my (our) participation in this event, however such, injuries, death or property damage may be caused, and whether or not the same may have been caused or may be alleged to have been caused by the negligence of the aforementioned parties or any of their employees, agents, or any other persons. I (WE) AGREE THAT ANY CAUSE OF ACTION, CONTROVERSY OR CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THE ENTRY, EXHIBITION OR ATTENDANCE AT THE EVENT BETWEEN THE AKC AND THE EVENT-GIVING CLUB (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED IN ITS PREMIUM LIST) AND MYSELF (OURSELVES) OR AS TO THE CONSTRUCTION, INTERPRETATION AND EFFECT OF THIS AGREEMENT SHALL BE SETTLED BY ARBITRATION PURSUANT TO THE APPLICABLE RULES OF THE AMERICAN ARBITRATION ASSOCIATION. The showing of unconfirmed Champions in Best of Breed competition is limited to 90 days from the date of the show where the dog completed the requirements for a championship. 3. (Event Class) Consult the classification in this premium list, if the dog show class in which you are entering is divided then into addition to designating the class, specify the particular division of the class in which you are entering your dog i.e. age division, color division of the class, weight division. 4. A dog must be entered in the name of the person who actually owned it at the time entries for the show closed. If a registered dog has been acquired by a new owner it must be entered in the name of the new owner in any show for which entries closed after the date of acquirement, regardless of whether the new owner has received the registration certificate indicating the dog is recorded in his name.
