Our DOCOF teams did well and we thank them all for the extra effort they expended to make our club proud. Be sure to ask them about their experience and how you can start training now to be a part of the team for next year. Classes have started again in the parking lot. Many thanks to all who volunteer to help out. And that includes everyone - not just instructors and assistants. We couldn't do it without those who take registration, hold dogs, set up rings, etc. Our mission is to promote more responsible dog ownership and I know our students really appreciate your caring attitude toward them. Our Matt Twitty seminar will be over by the time you read this, but stay tuned for more seminars in the future. Our building events committee is looking at presentations by some of our own members as well as other fun things for us. Our Thanksgiving weekend Fun Day is cancelled for this year - everyone will be at the agility trial. If you think you might be interested in agility - check out Anna's new Shenanigan's agility class starting in October. Linda Campagna will be leading the way for our participation in the area's Christmas parades this year. Be thinking about decorating your dog in a way the dog is comfortable for the hike. Our annual meeting will be held in the same place as last year in December. Joan Costello will be taking reservations. Be sure to get your titles in for the awards presentations, more details on page 9. Although our scores were not quite as good as last year, both teams had very respectable scores. Out of 33 teams, Team 1 came in 16th and Team 2 came in 22nd. This was the first year we have had two teams and we should all feel very proud of how we did. I want to thank all who competed for working so hard practicing every week. I also want to thank Brandy for her wonderful help instructing and Ralph, Maria and Joyce for helping with the runthrus each week. Thanks also to Joan for doing the DOCOF paper work and for taking the DOCOF pictures. We could not have had two teams without our set-up people, tear down people and the stewards who represented our club. So thanks so much to Joe and Sherri White, Helen Iermiero, and Betsy Stange for stewarding and to Bob Justison and Linda Campagna for their help with tear down. Thanks again to all of you. I am very proud of our two teams. Thoughts & Prayers for long time club member Lorna Waldron, she is in Hospice of Port Orange. 2013 Responsible Dog Owner Day a Success Again. Once again, OCOD had a successful and funfilled RDOD celebration at the Volusia Mall on Saturday, September 7th. The public part of the day began at 11 AM with a demonstration of agility tasks and the ring was busy with demonstrations until 4 PM. Throughout the day, Mall shoppers were treated to dogs engaged in all types of activities including basic and advanced obedience, assistance dogs, CGC, therapy dogs, reading dogs (ok, the dogs don't actually read), dancing dogs and well everything DOG!! In addition, several dog shelter/rescue groups and other dog related organizations were represented. This day is truly a group effort involving a large number of members as we start the day with moving equipment and ring set up, arrange for activities all day long, and finally break down and moving equipment back to the storage facility. If you haven't seen the photos, please take a look at our website and see the great things we did. Thank you to the Volusia Mall who welcomed us again to use their beautiful facility. On behalf of myself and my event co chair, Debbie Canevaro, thank you to everyone who participated this year and help to keep OCOD on the map as one of the premier dog training groups in Central Florida. The Board accepted this request and will charge $100 for electric for the use of our building. A Nominating Committee was appointed by the Board to come up with a slate of officers for the upcoming year. Committee includes: Joan Costello, Anna Johnson and Claire Israelson. Alternates are: Sharon Vescovi and Carole Clifton Entry fees for next year's Obedience Trial will be $27 for the first entry and $15 for the second entry of the same dog Movie night. BOWWOWFLIX has a membership of $11.95 per month and has training videos to rent. There was some interest. Annual Awards Banquet/Christmas Party. Clancy Johnson will chair this. It will be held the 2nd Monday in December The formation of a sunshine committee was discussed at the Board meeting. The Board decided against it at this time. Information will be published in the newsletter. A Standing Rules committee will be formed with the following people: Renee Johnson, Joan Costello and Sherri White. The standing rules will be reviewed and recommendations brought back to the Board. Chris Franczek talked about the club being able to conduct business with the amount of people who attend the monthly meetings. A committee was formed of Hoke Johnson, Janet Berry and Janet Narushka to look into this and the possibility of having active and associate memberships. There was discussion about the different types of memberships and also if we would rather change the number required for a quorum which would enable us to conduct business with less people present. The committee will look into this and give recommendations at the next meeting. Concern was brought up about club members all wearing different club shirts at events and classes. Chris Franczek will review this with the Board next month. An audit committee will be discussed at the next meeting. Report of Committees: Public Outreach. Pat Mozden reported Responsible Dog Owners day at the mall was a success. She thanked everyone for their participation. There are 2 other events coming up. The last Saturday in September SEVHS will have an event in front of Sam's. Also, there is an event on October 5. She will send out emails about these. Fun Day. Joan Costello announced Fun Day will conflict with an agility trial scheduled the same weekend which is the weekend after Thanksgiving. She suggested possibly canceling it or rescheduling it. By a show of hands the majority of people would like to cancel Fun Day this year. Training. Ralph Orlando asked for assistants for the puppy class in the parking lot. He also announced he has a sign up sheet for the next set of classes in the parking lot. Fund Raising. Ralph Orlando talked about the money he has been raising for the tracking test with Tee shirt sales and 50/50 drawings. He suggested we roll over any unused money for the next test. The new agility tee shirt design was passed around for suggestions. Building Maintenance. Anna Johnson thanked all who came out to clean the mats and the facility. She would like to do it again before the Matt Twitty seminar at the end of the month.
