Page 2 Program News From Sgt. Jennifer Lynch The Ridge Dog program is once again expanding to the MI3 side to I Unit. We are excited to work with I-Unit in the program and share the dogs with the MI3 staff and offenders. We will be moving handlers over there that are MI3 from the medium side slowly and they should end up with about 12 handlers over there. I Unit will have 2 mentors that won t have dogs, and will not be moved into a handler cell; and H Unit has 1 mentor that will participate in the program and assist with training. We do have handlers assigned to the BLVD for 2 blocks of time a day this helps us ensure the handlers are working and not sleeping all day. At this time the MI3 handlers will come to the mainline, medical and regular movements to the program building. In the near future revisions will be coming to the OM, forms and trainer schedules. Any questions regarding the dog program where offenders are supposed to be what they should be doing etc. please let us know.. NEWS

Page 6 Former Archer aka Hercules and Dexter Family Update Archer is doing great since he was released from the CRCC Dog Program. He loves spending time at the dog park & dog day care where he has made a whole new group of friends. Archer also has a new BFF at home by the name of Dexter (another CRCC release) they are true partners in crime! It truly has been a joy to have Archer in my life & home; he is the silliest, sweetest, smallest big dog around!! Everywhere I take him people just fawn & ogle over his size and apparent cuteness! The Scharf Family Thank you to his CRCC handlers for doing such a great job training this little guy! Archer Dexter Archer Archer & Dexter

Tri-Cities Dog Park Mission: The Tri-City Dog Park Society was founded to promote, establish and maintain dog parks for our community. What is a dog park? - A dog park is a designated recreational area where dog owners can let their pets exercise off leash. Dog parks create a social hub in the community and promote responsible pet ownership. Dog parks benefit our community. Dog parks promote public safety Dog parks reduce the likelihood that dogs will be loose in other public areas. Dog parks make surrounding neighborhoods safer Regular users of dog parks act as a neighborhood watch. The presence of dogs and owners in dog parks significantly reduces crime rates in surrounding areas and creates an atmosphere of safety. Dog parks create a social hub for the community Interactions at dog parks help neighbors get to know one another and build a sense of community. Dog parks provide elderly and physically challenged owners with a safe place to exercise their pets Neighborhood dogs are better citizens when exercised regularly at a dog park. Adequate exercise reduces barking, digging, and territorial behavior in dogs making them better neighbors. Dog parks provide a tool for enforcement of dog control laws By requiring that dogs entering a dog park be licensed, dog parks provide a way for animal control agents to promote licensing. Dog parks promote responsible pet ownership The social aspect of dog parks promote the basic rules of responsible pet ownership such as cleaning up after one s dog, training one s dog and helping to prevent dog related problems in our community. Dog parks benefit dog owners Dog parks provide dog owners with a fun place to meet new people. Being with a dog increases opportunities for conversation. Dog parks are a place where people can enjoy watching dogs play. Dog parks promote physical fitness Dog parks encourage people to exercise with their pets. Dog parks provide owners with an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors!

Unknown A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself. -Josh Billings My dog is worried about the economy because Alpo is up to $3.00 a can. that's almost $21.00 in dog money. -Joe Weinstein There is no psychiatrist in the world like a puppy licking your face. -Ben Williams
