Coutances Young Bird & Old Hens Race Michael Moody Sid & Val Miles From Southampton from Peasedown St John With Thrilling Fred with Val s Girl Young Bird Winner Old Hens Winners 1 st SE Section 1 st NW Section After waiting for some slight mist to clear on site Nigel liberated the convoy of 1,815 birds at 9am in to no wind. On board we had 1,443 young birds sent by 174 members and 372 old hens sent by 75 members. The forecast from Clive on route was light variable winds mainly from the northern quarter. The Committee would like to congratulate all the winners from every race and thank everyone involved with the Classic who have worked tirelessly this season to ensure everything runs smoothly from the day of marking right through to the liberation and thank all our sponsors whose kind generosity is very much appreciated. 1 st Open 1 st SE Section Michael Moody from Southampton. I decided to send my young birds to the Classic Coutances race this year instead of the National as I wanted to give my birds the experience of a channel race without the increased risk of them being pulled across the whole country. I certainly didn't expect to win. I thought I had a good time but wasn't expecting that all important phone call from Clare to say I was 1 st Open young birds, and to top it off I was also 4 th and 5 th Open, 2 nd and 3 rd Section old hens. I have decided to call my 1 st Open young bird Thrilling Fred in honour of my grandad Fred Gregory and the bloodline of the pigeon which is mostly licence to thrill lines of Robby Pugh, hence the Thrilling. It also carries the lines of Syndicate Lofts Theodore and Joy, Harry and Kanon. I think this pigeon did exceptionally well as it only hatched out in May. It is raced natural and into the moult. As far as training and preparation has gone my birds have had 3 races with the Southampton Fed and the trainers I have given them which are around 20 mile. Onto my old hens, they did not have much preparation at all. Just a trainer with the Southampton Fed the week before and about 4 trainers at 20 mile. Both hens were sent sitting on eggs. One of these being bred from my Belgian stock, a direct son of Eddy Janssen's Darko and a Verbree pigeon. The other bred for me by my friends Darling & Ede.

Finally I would like to congratulate all Section winners and the Open and Section winners of the old hens race. Michael Moody and Evlyn 2 nd Open 2 nd SE Section Dave & Lisa Waterhouse from Portsmouth. Firstly I would like to congratulate the winner. Well done. Our pigeon who was 2 nd Open on the day and winner of the breeder/ buyer is now named Geraldine s Pride who we named after my sister who I sadly lost this year. This hen has only been raced three times, Exeter and twice across the water. She is always in the first batch. She is out of my Jacob Poortvliet pigeons which is a son of my ace pair crossed with my new Leo Heremans. Can I thank the convoyer and all the staff for a great job done. Thank you.

Dave Waterhouse 3 rd & 7 th Open Steve, Yvette & Lauren Harris from Portchester. Firstly, we would like to congratulate M Moody on his Classic win & also well done to Dave & Lisa Waterhouse 2 nd Open (at the top of the leader board again) Thanks to the convoying team for looking after the birds. We had 12/15 in good time. Our first bird was purchased from Roel Gossen. She is a Vandenabeele hen inbred to his good cock Tarzan. Our second bird is a granddaughter of 'Yvette's decision' who was 1 st Open BICC Falaise this year.

Steve Harris 4 th 5 th & 6 th Open Jason Ross from Portsmouth. I would like to say well done to Michael Moody and all the other Section Winners, also to Dave Waterhouse on winning the Breeder/buyer, money goes to money. After what seemed a long wait after seeing so many birds come off the water, I finally had 3 birds come together out of the west. My 1 st bird is a Cosi rocket bred by my good friend Cosmin Talas, she has been very consistent so far this year. My 2 nd bird is also bred by Cosmin from one of his rockets x a son off my 2 nd NFC winner "Cookie". This cock has already won this year and also won the money for the last 2 weeks. My 3 rd bird is one of my Vandenabeeles being a grand daughter off a sister to my BICC winner. I would like to thank Kala for all her help with the birds and also Clare and the rest of the team on a great race with good returns. (That includes you Nigel, you seem to be getting the hang of this now. Lol.)

Jason Ross Buddy Shipp 8 th Open Buddy Shipp from Portsmouth. This is the first young bird race for this pigeon, which was bred from my good friend Tommy in Holland. All the best to the winner. 9 th & 10 th Open Nick Wilson from Portsmouth. The babies have been coming really well all season, the two that I got together came over the top of the house so were on line, the first one GB17N12488 is a Van Reet out of a hen that Kalvin Legg bred me and the sire is a Van Reet that my late mate Dave Brain bred (RIP Dave). The other one GB17N12471 is a Vandenabeele out of stock that Jason Ross and Jimmy Wearn gave me when I started up again, both hens are on the roundabout system. Birds fed on sawdust (not really). It is a running joke that the club members say mine don't get fed at home because they hoover up all the sawdust, I don't know why they do IT!? but they win so what can I do LOL.

1 st NE Section James & Peter Parker from Beenham. We had 4 come together, the first was a Rudi de Seare cock. the second was a Stefaan Lambrecht hen timed at the same time as the cock, third was a nest mate to our first bird and fourth was a machine baby. All in all fair returns considering a slightly stiffer race than expected. 1 st NW Section Graham Clift (loft 2) from Tirley. Well done to all the Section and Open winners on an excellent race in good weather conditions which produced a fairer result with the absence of strong westerly winds of late. I race some yb's each year from my stock loft some 6 miles from Tirley and only train my yb's from my main racing loft to race as yearlings. My thanks go to George Harding my lifelong friend who looks after the yb race team together with the stock birds as he has been very successful in the last three seasons winning 3 x 1 st Sections and 16 th Open NFC together with several other good Section and Open positions. The first pigeon is bred from a brother to Mark Gilbert's 1 st Open BICC Pau winner when paired to a daughter of Rob Rome's "Dark Misty" sire of numerous top pigeons to fly into Scotland. Returns were good having 9 from the 11 sent all returned in excellent condition. Graham Clift and George Harding

Runner up to James and Peter Parker in the NE Section Paul Kenny from Wantage. Our bird is a blue bar hen. It was sent sitting 7 day old eggs. She is a M & D Evans Vandenabeele having her second race for the year. The birds are trained regularly from the coast. Paul Kenny Tracy Peart with Connie and Grace 2 nd NW Section Dean & Tracy Peart from Gloucester. This cock has had a previous second club, beaten by loft mate in the Gloucester & District FC. He returned from the Classic in great condition and was bred from Graham Clift of Tirley who was first NW Section.

1 st SW Section Brian Young (B & D Young) from Bournemouth. Well down to all the Winners in the Section and the Open Winner. I have been lucky again, this youngster is from the AD Schaerlaeckens stock birds and a touch of Houbens. The young birds have had only a little training as the Dorset Fed has had trouble with our transporter. A great big thanks to Clare and Nigel for their assistance in providing transport. Thanks to all the helpers at the marking stations. Brian Young 2 nd SW Section Tony Stephens from Poole. Well done to all the Winners and Section Winners. The pigeon I timed in, is a red cock bird from my Uncle, Rodney Muspratt. Thankyou Rod. Thanks to Clare and the Committee for all their hard work.

Tony Stephens OLD HENS 1 st Open 1 st NW Section Sid & Val Miles from Peasedown St John. Racing back to her 1 week old youngster, we timed our yearling chequer hen 'Val s Girl. Named after my wife Val who has always helped look after our pigeons over the years but has recently been unable to due to ill health. Val watched from the house and was delighted to see Val s Girl drop in at 12:43. We both thought that she done it in good time but we never expected her to do so well. It was a lovely surprise when Clare called to confirm we had won the race. Val s Girl flew well as a young bird and as a yearling she won the Fougeres Club race at Midsomer Norton Flying Club out of 198 birds. Bred down from a long line of our of best long distance pigeons - her parents are a pair of stock birds, that have bred several pigeons that have scored over the years. The sire is out of our blue cock who came 1 st Section, 2 nd Open Tarbes Classic 2013 and he was paired to a mealy hen who was bred down from two National winners: Little Darling and Ashgrove King - so an impressive line of distance pigeons. Only this week a young nest pair bred from the same parents took 2 nd and 8 th in the Little Hampton Club race to show some signs of promise. If they turn out anything like their sister, we ll be very happy! The birds came back in lovely condition, so we d like thank the Classic for looking out to the pigeons properly and we congratulate everyone else who done well in the race.

Sid Miles 1 st SE Section 2 nd Open Mark Drackett from Portsmouth. Firstly, I would like to congratulate all the Winners and all the Section Winners. Secondly a personal thank you to my mum as I was going to leave this great sport due to personal reasons but she persisted and encouraged me to continue. Therefore I can now proudly naming this little hen as 'me julie' lol. This hen is a Janssen pigeon which is bred down from stock. The hen was sent sitting on 14 day old eggs. All 5 of my hens entered returned to me in excellent condition.

Mark Drackett 1 st SW Section 3 rd Open John & Dave Staddon from Evercreech. We are over the moon to top the Section with the Classic. Please pass our congratulations to Sid & Val and all the Section Winners in both races. This means in our last 3 old bird races we have won 1 st Section BBC Bordeaux, 1 st Section BICC Guernsey and now 1 st Section CSCFC Coutances. We sent 5 hens and all 5 returned in good condition. Our section winner is a very good yearling hen who previously had won 1 st Club, 1 st WOESRC Saintes in 2017, winning the race by 53ypm or very nearly 15 miles!! We have now named her Miracle 23. She is direct from our Miracle Pair, responsible for countless

Section Winners, Club Winners, 5 x 1 st WOESRC, 2 nd NFC, 4 th NFC, 4 th BICC, 9 th NFC and now 3 rd CSCFC. The Miracle Pair were both bred by good mate Mark Gilbert. All ours hens were flying to small babies and will go back to the NFC Coutances race this weekend on big youngsters. John & Dave Staddon 4 th & 5 th Open 2 nd & 3 rd Section Michael Moody from Southampton. Please read young bird report. 2 nd NW Section Trevor Cooke from Longlevens. This hen has been a consistent hen for me winning many prizes in Club, Classic and National, now she will be retired to my stock loft. Breeding is Janssen lines from my good friend Wyn Jenkins, South Wales. She is now named after my eldest daughter Debbie.

Trevor Cooke 2 nd SW Section John Halstead from Gillingham, North with a yearling blue hen Nyland Louise who was sent sitting a week old baby. This hen is bred from 2 Louis Thijs pigeons which were purchased at auction in Doncaster and contain Heremans Ceusters bloodlines. She has regularly won prizes and was 1 st Club 6 th Dorset Fed Maidstone as a YB, the 2 nd Club 11 th Fed Hastings in May 2017, and 1 st Section 302 nd Open (6904 birds) in the very difficult NFC Messac race in early June.

John Halstead 1 st NE Section Steve & Paul Kulpa from Reading. Our first hen is a 2 year old Janssen De Klak. Her sire is a grandson of Hans Eijerkamps Flits and Lichte 05. He is already the father to 1 st Section NE in the classic. The Dam is a daughter of "Sophia" winner of 1 st Open NFC 2004, she is bred from the lines of Hans Eijerkamps Bartoli. All birds are raced on Versele Laga corn and Aviform products in the water. This was 825's 6 th trip over the channel this year and her 18 th race of the season having flown the full federation programme.

Steve & Paul Kulpa 2 nd NE Section is Tony Crook from Thatcham. The pigeon timed was a yearling hen home bred Hofkin strain. This was her 2 nd time across the channel. The first time was in 2016 where she took 1 st Section National and 23 rd Open.

Tony Crook The Classic Late Bred Sale to be held on Tuesday 26 th September 2017 in Southampton. More details to follow. Clare Norman. Tel: 023 8057 3919 Email: secretary@cscfc.com
