The deadline was April 1st. The Board, in an effort to secure a venue, has tentatively scheduled Purina Farm for 9/22 9/28 2019. Lure coursing on the 22nd and 23rd. Conformation will move in to the Purina Event Center on the 23rd at noon and then event days will be inside the building 9/24-9/28. Scheduling of Purina Farm can remain tentative until another event inquires in to using these dates, at which time BCOA must secure its reservation. Selected judges will be notified of these dates to secure their obligations. Securing venues has become a challenge, and scheduling for venues is often best done four or more years out. Likewise, Judges are committing to assignments many years in advance. The BCOA Board wants to encourage Affiliate Clubs or group of five BCOA members in the Western Region to pursue submitting a National proposal. A change in venue and dates is possible at this time; however, BCOA Board must proceed with an alternate proposal to secure a venue and judges. Alternative, due to the flexibility of Purina Farm and their ability to organize specialty shows, a Western Region Affiliate Clubs or group of five BCOA members may propose hosting the National at this venue. If no proposal is received by the Western Region, the Board will consider proposals from the next region, or beyond, as established in policy. Should a proposal be presented that includes date and venue change, the Board will contact the selected judges to verify availability. Approval of a late proposal will be dependent on having to commit to Purina Farms or the availability of our selected judges. The Board recognizes today's challenges to host a National event, and encourage our Affiliate Clubs and the membership to contact the National Specialty Advisory committee with suggestions that would improve the process. Sincerely, Board of Directors, Basenji Club of America 2

Therapy Dog Excellent Owners Mary and Gary Langula are proud to announce that their Therapy dog, Zorro, has been awarded the AKC Therapy Dog Excellent Title. This title includes over 350 therapy visits. Congratulations! The editor s own copy of original photo of Kwango and Kasui of the Congo, progenitors of all Basenjis pre-1980s imports. Owned and bred by Veronica Tudor-Williams. Both were sired by and out of the original Blean dogs. Kwango, when bred to his daughter, Koo Koo of the Congo, produced two of the early cream Basenjis, Amadeus and Prince Charming, but also produced the invaluable Kinga of the Congo, who was bred to 17 bitches, and set Basenji type for all time. 10
