P A G E 2 Plants Do you think plants are interesting? Plants need water, air, sunlight, and minerals to survive. The parts of a plant are leaves stem, and roots. Each part of the plant has its own job. The roots are the part of the plant that grows underground. The roots help hold the plant underground. The roots have a very impor- tant job. They take in water and minerals from the soil. They deliver water and minerals to the stem. The stem is the part of the plant that carries water and minerals from the roots. The stem also helps the plant stand up right. It also supports the plant. It will carry food from the leaves to other parts. The leaves are the main food making part of the plant. The leaves also trap in energy from the sun. It uses the suns energy, carbon dioxide, and water to make food. It also takes in sunlight. It uses a gas in the air called carbon dioxide. The parts of the plants are all important. Each has its own job in order for the plant to survive. Life Cycle Life Cycle tion, and death. Birth is when you are born. Growth and change is like when you are getting older and taller. Re- Some animals have stages of a life cycle. They are birth, growth and change, reproducproduction brings you to an adult. And death is when you die which is sad.

V O L U M E 1, I S S U E 1 Penguin Research Penguins live in the southern hemisphere. Some are big and some are small. All penguins have a special characteristic. There are 17 different species of penguins. The penguins live near the sea. Some types of penguins are the Emperor Penguins, King Penguins, Gentoo penguins, Adelie penguins, Chinstrap penguins, and Yellow-eyed penguins. Emperor penguins live in Antarctica. They are one of the biggest penguins. The Emperor penguin weighs up to 90 pounds, and they are nearly 4 feet tall. These penguins have an orange Empoper glow on Penguin their cheeks. with its chick. When the father holds the chick for 2 days he loses half his body weight. The King penguins live in the Antarctic. They weigh up to 35 pounds, and 3 feet tall. These penguins have orange spots near their ears. There body can only lay 1 egg at a time. The gentoos live on the islands of the Antarctic. Their weight is 13 pounds, and is 3 feet tall. They have a wide white strip over the top of their head. These penguins make nests on inland grasslands. Adelie penguins live in the Antarctic. They are 8 or 9 pounds, and are 2 feet tall. These Adelies have a black head, and white ring around their eye. The penguins build their nests of stone on the beaches. Chinstrap penguins live on large icebergs. They are 2 feet tall, and are 10 pounds. These penguins have a small black band. The chinstrap penguins are most common with a population of about 13 million. Yellow-eyed penguins live on Rocky Antarctic islands. They are 18 pounds. Also they are 2 feet tall. These Yellow-eyed penguins have a band of yellow feathers. There are only estimated 1,500 breeding pairs of Yellow-eyed penguins. There are 11 more kinds of species out there, but they all live in the southern hemisphere. P A G E 3 Most of the penguins are in Penguin Research, check it out!!!

P A G E 4 How to Build a Lego Star Wars Ship Have you seen a Lego set in your friend s room? I have. There are all different kinds of Lagos! Here are some types of logos star wars, Lego city, Lego batman, and many more. I m going to teach you how to build a Lego Star Wars ship. All you will need is some 4 stud pieces, 6 stud pieces, and a flat surface. Just follow these steps and you will have a Lego set!!!!!!!! Building Legos can be fun, but only if you follow the steps and directions. First, open the box on a flat surface, so the pieces won t fall off. Next, open only bag 1 because if you open all of the bags there might be too many pieces and might lose them. Third, you get some 4 stud pieces, 6 stud pieces, and a flat surface, and make sure the make the Lego figure before you move on. You must so you can build the Lego set. After that, get started probably by getting a flat surface, so you can add on to it. Then when you are done open bag 2 if there is a bag 2. So you don lose pieces. Next, get all materials you need, just like bag 1. Without materials there is no point for logos. Finally, when you are finished there you go!!!!! You have a Lego set!!! Hope you ve enjoyed your Lego set from these steps. Now I challenge you to try to make an even bigger Lego set!!!! Rocks and Minerals What are minerals? Minerals are a substance found in nature that is not a plant or animal. All rocks are made from minerals. Minerals are the building blocks of rocks. There are three types of rocks they are Igneous, Sedimentary, and Metamorphic rocks. Igneous rocks are fire made. Igneous rocks form when melted rock cools and hardens. Inside earth melted rock cools slowly, and on the surface rock cools quickly. Volcanoes that erupt form these rocks. Bassult and Granite are examples of igneous rocks. Sedimentary rocks forms when sand, mud, and pebbles at the bottom of rivers, lakes, and oceans pile up. Sedimentary rocks press together and cement into solid rocks. Shale, sandstone, and siltstone are examples of Sedimentary rocks. Metamorphic means change in form. Metamorphic rocks changes through squeezing and heating. Marble and Gneiss are examples of Metamorphic rocks. These are the three types of rocks!!!!

V O L U M E 1, I S S U E 1 Cats or Dogs? Fly Eagle, Fly Do you own a cat or dog? I have a dog! That s why I think dogs are the best pet to get. I love dogs because they protect you. Another reason I love dogs is because they exercise. The last reason I love dogs is because they are patient. Dogs Rule!!! Dogs provide awesome protection. One way a dog can protect you when there is a robber in your home, and you own a dog it will scare them off. According to the article it says Cute dogs dogs will Laying. bark if there is danger. Once my dog barked at someone strange and scared him away. My family loves when my dog exercises because then they will get healthy. Cats don t go outside a lot so the cat owner will get sick, and will get no exercise at all. Once we walked so far I laid on the couch with my dog named Lady. We named her after Lady in Lady and the Tramp. In the article it says the owner and dog will get a lot of exercise if you walk your dog. Dogs are very patient. Based on the article it says people tell dogs something they can t tell other people. My dog is very patient because when we hold up a treat she sits. If your dogs sit she or he is waiting for the treat. Waiting is being Patient. I think dogs are the best pet. I have a dog and she protects us, she exercises, and she is very patient. hat s why I think a dog is the greatest pet!!! Maybe if you didn t have a dog before this maybe you will want a dog? P A G E 5 Look at those cute puppys!!1 The story Fly Eagle, Fly is an African Folk Tale. The man found an Eagle. He brought the Eagle to the village, and treated it like a chicken. The friend kept trying to make the eagle fly. The friend tried to prove the farmer wrong about the Eagle/ Chicken. The friend proved that the Eagle was not a chicken. The Eagle flew into the sun, and was never seen again.

P A G E 6 Cute Lost dog:( The Lost Dog The story Lost Dog is a realistic fiction story. In the beginning Sam went for a walk with his dog Buddy, and his friend Alan. After that, Buddy chased a rabbit and got lost. Then Alan got his dad and looked for Buddy for an hour, and couldn t find him. Next, Sam left to go back home. Sam left clothes to make a scent track for Buddy. Sam was so sad. In the end, Sam woke up on a Saturday morning hearing Buddy s bark. He opened up the door and there was Buddy. Save Our Water Save our water people!!! To help conserve water you can collect water in a barrel, take quick showers, and turn off the water while you re brushing your teeth. These are some ways you can conserve. Putting a barrel outside is awesome because, if there is water in the barrel you can water a plant. According to the article Save Our Water it says put a barrel outdoors to catch water. I would even do that!!!! You can also take fast showers instead of baths or long showers. I even get a 2 minute shower!!! Cutting down your shower time can save 9 liters of water. In the video Eco rilla it says taking a quick shower can save 30 liters of water!!!! Our environment can also save water by turning off the faucet after you wet your toothbrush. Turn it on when you rinse. You can save 30 Liters of water too!!!! I also turn off the water after I wet my toothbrush, but I didn t know I could save 30 liters of water!! In the article it says turn the faucet on only when you wet your tooth brush and when you rinse. These are three things you can do to conserve. I hope you conserve by doing these three T H E C A P R I O T T I H E R A L D
