Barry retired as a GSDCA Breed Surveyor at the end of December. A life time of work and commitment to the breed both at a National and State level. Thank you, Barry. List of Awards presented at the AGM. Well done all. Christmas Calendar: The Club again made a small profit in the 2016-2017 financial year. Particularly pleasing to see that the 2017 GSDCA National Show & Trial made a sizable profit. The three- year commitment by the National Show Committee plus the many, many members who supported the Club during the journey was outstanding. All Queensland members should be delighted that once again the Club hosted a most memorable event. Huge shout out to Gail Donald for producing the Club s 2018 Christmas calendar. Top effort and great PR for the Club and the breed. Thanks Gail.
VISIT TO OXLEY POLICE DOG SQUAD raised towards events this year. Bunnings 14th January 2018 Thanks to Club members Bob Anderson, Mandy Doyle, Sue Bruno, Lachlan Wharton, Sharon Ballantyne, and friend Naomi Ambrose for their assistance at the Bunnings Bethania BBQ fundraiser. Just over $900 War Dog Memorial at Durack: On Friday 22 December 2017 the GSD Council of Australia Patron, Dawn Fraser AO, MBE., her daughter Dawn- Lorraine, grandson Jackson (pictured above) along with GSDCQ Media/PR officer, Annie Tamblyn were welcomed at the Queensland Police Dog Squad Headquarters at Oxley to meet and name the newest members of the Dog Squad - 10 week old Police puppies Kayla & Kimberley (named by Dawn). Following the meeting and naming of the puppies, Dawn, Dawn- Lorraine, Jackson and Annie were then invited by Inspector Paul Austin and Officer in Charge, Snr. Sgt Clint Thomasson and some of the Police Officers for a tour of the facilities and kennels to meet some of the four- legged members of the team. A great day for all who attended. Show Training re- commenced at Durack: Show training at Durack re- commenced on 7th February. Thanks to Sue Bruno & Julie Hogan- Smith who have taken control of show training each Wednesday night at Durack Sports Grounds, King Ave, Durack. Training is from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm. On the 4th February 2018 a small group of members from the German Shepherd Dog Club of Queensland attended the very special unveiling of the War Dog Memorial Statue at the Dogs Qld Sports Grounds at Durack Queensland. GSDCQ President Sharon Ballantyne and GSDCA Patron Dawn Fraser, AO MBE, laid a beautiful wreath on behalf of the German Shepherd Dog Council of Australia. The statue was made extra special for our fraternity as the dog is a German Shepherd. He sits alert and proud outside the main building at the grounds. Those also in attendance were past Presidents and Life members Diane Ballantyne and John Hansen, Life member Barry O'Rourke and Club members Syd and Heidi Lewis, Jo Morgan, Sarah Gordon and Carol O'Rourke. The Club would also like to thank past President Rodney Vernon for his work behind the scenes on this project with Dogs Queensland.
