Dear Coaches, Players and Supporters, On behalf of the Colleluori family and the HEADstrong Foundation we wish to welcome you and your program to the 7th Annual Nicholas Colleluori Classic. It was from this event seven years ago that we formally launched the HEADstrong Foundation after experiencing the outcry of support surrounding our founder, our family and our fight. Our goal since the inception of this event was make a statement by uniting our local community and the lacrosse community while paying homage to our founder and my son Nicholas Colleluori and honor those affected by taking the field and facing-off against blood cancer. We hope that you are truly inspired by being apart of this incredibly special event. From the accommodations to the competition we have worked diligently to ensure that this event exceeds your expectations. The setting of this special event is Nick s beloved Ridley High School and the Ridley Athletic Complex in Folsom, Pennsylvania. Nick was always so proud to be a Ridley Green Raider and longed to one day teach and coach at this institution. The school has played a vital role for HEADstrong Foundation from the classroom where we once held our board meetings to the field where we watched Nick play. What better place to have this event then at Ridley High School, where it all began. At the heart of this special event is an amazing student philanthropic effort which supports the quality of life initiatives and service offering of the HEADstrong Foundation. Our hope is that the fundraising component of our event adds to building camaraderie amongst your team in the off season. The impact that they can make on their respected campuses and outreach of awareness is a key element in making the NCC the premier fall men s lacrosse event. It was Nick s belief in his lacrosse brotherhood that gave us the confidence to create the HEADstrong Foundation. Relentless Born October 19, 1985 to Cheryl and Pat, Nicholas "Head" Colleluori was the third of four brothers raised in Holmes, Pa., a blue-collar neighborhood in suburban Philadelphia. A 2004 graduate of Ridley High School, Nicholas went on to play collegiate lacrosse for Hofstra University. An undersized athlete noted for his never give-up mental toughness, determination and aggressiveness on the playing field. He defined the word Relentless in his approach of life. It was this same tenacity that unknowingly prepared him to take on his toughest opponent. On September 21, 2005, the Colleluori s lives changed forever. At the age of 19, Nicholas Head Colleluori learned he had non-hodgkin s Lymphoma, a vicious blood cancer affecting the lymphatic system. In the wake of his diagnosis, Nicholas began a public crusade using the sport of lacrosse to educate and advocate funds for innovative research, financial assistance and quality of life services for patients and families of blood cancer. As a patient Nicholas became an advocate for the disease. He developed the blueprint for what is now the HEADstrong Foundation and used time in between procedures to create our logo, mission and services. Unknowingly given 3 months to survive, he waged a 14-month battle undergoing chemotherapy, an autologous stem cell transplant, radiation along with experimental treatments. He understood firsthand the hardships of living with the disease and was motivated to make a difference. In the fall of 2006 doctor s told Nicholas that there was nothing more they could do to prolong his life, Nicholas made a request in his final hours to his family that others would benefit from the life he had lived. He passed away surrounded by his family and friends on November 28, 2006. Life as the Colleluori's knew came to an end, but their life as the HEADstrong Foundation was just beginning. Nick s legacy will live forever through the work and services of the HEADstrong Foundation.
About the Organization As a promise fulfilled, the Colleluori family continues the vision of their son and brother Nicholas. They have committed their lives to the fight against blood cancer through the efforts and services provided by the HEADstrong Foundation. Organized in 2006, the HEADstrong Foundation works to advocate, fundraise and support those affected by blood cancer and those working to eliminate it. The HEADstrong Foundation is committed to providing national assistance and resources to those affected by the disease. They are dedicated to helping patients and their families navigate the harrowing ordeal of cancer by sharing their experience, lending guidance and providing essential services with emphasis on improving and sustaining quality of life. The HEADstrong Foundation proudly distributes grants to support patients and families financially impacted by blood cancers. They provide programs and services such as HEAD2head, a forum for patients and families to openly communicate with a network of survivors, providing a source of encouragement that nurtures a patient's well-being. Additionally, HEADstrong brings the beneficial elements of the family dinner table to the hospital in an effort to provide meal alternatives, improved accommodations and promote normalcy through the HEADtable program. The HEADstrong Foundation is at the forefront of innovative advancements and groundbreaking research through the Nicholas E. Colleluori Lymphoma Research Fund supporting the Abramson Cancer Center at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. In 2011, the HEADstrong Foundation proudly opened Nick's House a facility offering complimentary living accommodations to patients and families traveling to the Philadelphia area for blood cancer related treatment. Today the HEADstrong Foundation has established itself as a nationally recognized charitable organization. Since their inception the organization has helped thousands of families throughout the country dealing with the hardships of disease. Their service offering continues to evolve through the efforts of their dedicated staff, volunteers and patient advocates. HEADstrong Foundation maintains a strong connection to the national lacrosse community given that Nick was a competitive collegiate player and his family members are avid supporters and enthusiasts. HEADstrong empowers student-athletes from across the country, through presenting charitable athletic events, sponsorship of teams and through the development of awareness merchandise in effort to make a difference in the lives of others. Overview of the Nicholas Colleluori Fall Classic The HEADstrong Foundation proudly hosted the inaugural Nicholas Colleluori Fall Classic in 2007 with the purpose of memorializing their Founder while raising awareness and funds to support the fight against blood cancer. Over the next few years with help from the lacrosse community the event helped to bring about national awareness for the organization. Since its inception the NCC has helped raise over 1.2 million dollars in the fight against blood cancers. This year's event will take place over two days, gathering over 10,000 spectators to take part in this annual fall lacrosse festival. The games will take place on Saturday October 5th for Division I teams and Sunday October 6th for Division II & III teams. The NCC is held annually at the Ridley High School Athletic Complex in Folsom, Pennsylvania. Each team will host an "Honorary Captain", who is someone living with blood cancer. These special guests are true heroes of the event. Please welcome your "Honorary Captain" and make them feel part of the team for the day. Over the years this experience has made a priceless difference in the lives of many. The Commitment - Fundraising for the Cause Taking into account the diversity of collegiate programs the NCC planning committee created a (3) tiered fundraising model to help achieve your fundraising goal. Below is an overview of our fundraising options. I. T-Shirt Fundraiser - Required Fundraising Amount $2,700 Commitment: Participating programs are required to sell (180) HEADstrong Awareness T-Shirts Upon committing to the 7th Annual NCC, teams will receive an electronic order form. Based on a (36) player roster each player will be required to sell approximately (5) T-Shirts. Shirts will be shipped in July rather than August to allow for ample time for solicitation. Funds will be due upon arriving at the 7th Annual NCC. 1,800 of $2,700 is deemed tax deductable. II. Host An On-Campus Fundraiser - Required Fundraising Amount $2,700 Commitment: This option allows for teams to get creative through hosting a fundraiser on-campus. A change drive, a lacrosse clinic, a cross-training session, a push-up competition are just a few examples of how you can facilitate this fundraising option. This fundraising option is an ideal team building opportunity and will help to gain the support of your school. Funds will be due upon arriving at the 7th Annual NCC. Based on a roster of 36 players, each player is responsible for raising approximately $75.00. 100% of the donation is deemed tax deductable. III. Gift or Monetary Contribution - Required Fundraising Amount $2,700 This fundraising option allows teams to utilize gifts from their alumni, athletic department, sponsors and supporters to act as their contribution. This option is ideal for the program that may not have the ability to sell t-shirts or for the program that is late to begin the Fall semester. Funds will be due upon arriving at the 7th Annual NCC. 100% of the donation is deemed tax deductable.
Schedule Features 1. All Teams are requested to take a seat on the Stadium Turf Field for the HEADstrong Presentation. 2. Teams should warm up on side fields and be ready to play by Game Time. 3. Teams should clear the benches quickly after each game. 4. Six Teams play (1) game, then rest (1) game, before playing their second game. 5. Four Teams rest for (2) games before playing their second game. 6. All Teams get (1) game on Turf Field and (1) game on Grass Field. 7. All Teams should bring along Home & Away Jerseys, or Reversible Pinnies. (Home Team wears White.) 8. Games on Grass Field will end early enough for the 6:30 PM sunset. 9. Local Teams were scheduled for either early or late games as required. 10. Some Overnight Travel Teams required early-in/early-out to accommodate travel schedules. 11. Some Day Trip Travel Teams required later games, to give them more time to arrive. Game Timing (15) min. Quarters = (60) min. (2) min. Halftime = (2) min. (1) min. Quarter Breaks = (2) min. (2) x (60) sec. TO / Team per Half = (8) min. Total = (72) min. Game Timing Rules 1. Games are (60) min. long & (90) min. apart. 2. Games are (15) min. Qtrs, (2) min. Halftime & (1) min. Qtr Breaks, with (2) x (60) Sec. TO / Team. 3. Games are played under Running Time, including the last (2) min. of the 4th Quarter. 4. Game Clock stops only on goals, team timeouts & official timeouts. 5. Restarts after goals will be by face-off within (30) seconds after the goal. 6. Game Clock will not stop on loose balls, bad passes & missed shots that go Out-of-Bounds. 7. Play will start & stop on the Referee s whistle, for balls that are out-of-bounds, but the game clock keeps running. 8. Game clock will not stop on penalty calls - Play will be interrupted by the Referee s whistle, but the game clock runs. 9. Penalty Clock will be Stop Time - Penalty Clock will start & stop on the Referee s whistle, but the Game Clock runs 10. Game Clock will not stop during Substitution Horns - Play will be interrupted by the horn, but the Game Clock runs. 11. Team that is ahead in the final (2) minutes of the game must Keep it in their Offensive Zone. 12. All other NCAA rules apply.
The Facility Phil Marion Field and the Ridley Athletic Complex is located in Folsom, Pennsylvania. This venue holds significance to the Foundation because it is the home of Ridley Lacrosse and the field that founder Nicholas Colleluori played on. The complex boasts one turf field and one grass field along with practice fields for warm-ups. Team Tent Includes: 1-20ft. x 40ft. Commercial Tent 8-8ft. Tables 60 - Chairs The Accommodations We are very committed to making this event an enjoyable experience and have worked diligently to ensure a very personal experience for players, enthusiasts, alumni and fans to be apart of. The Nicholas Colleluori Classic is a festive occasion and each participating program is provided with a hospitality tent (20x40) for the day, complete with folding tables and chairs. Booster clubs, families and alumni are encouraged to bring along their choice of food and beverage, for a wonderful all day tailgate.
Tailgating and Conduct The HEADstrong Foundation has granted permission to allow participating programs the ability to tailgate at the Relentless Cup, however tailgates must be in compliance at all times. The area designated for tailgating is located between Phil Marion Field and the Grass Field. This will be a common area for all teams to congregate. Please Respect The Following Rules Tailgating is not permitted in the actual parking lot. Alcohol is not permitted on school property. Animals are not permitted on school property, even if they are on leashes. Tailgating space is allocated on a first come, first serve basis. Tents, tables and chairs will not be provided by the hosting party, however spectators are encouraged to bring their own. The HEADstrong Foundation will not be held liable for any property left behind at tailgate area while games are being played. Personal belongings and items of value should stay with spectators at all times. Spectators will be accountable for cleaning up any and all trash. Electricity is not available in the designated tailgate area. Any spectators in violation of these rules will be asked to leave the facility.
