SECRETARY S REPORT DECEMBER BOARD MEETING Wednesday, December 1, 2010 Nebraska Humane Society 90 th and Fort, Omaha, Nebraska (Subject to approval) Attending: Tim Bourke, Sue Volkmer, Pam Swisher, Jenni Toebben, Jan Hague, Elly Rensink, Debby Stokley, Pat Leyendecker, Barbara Hill Absent: Sandy Orr and Cheryl Morris Guest: Shelly Rehmeier President, Jenni Toebben called the meeting to order at 7 PM. Shelly Rehmeier reported on the November 14, 2010 tracking test including the financial report. There were 9 entries. None of the entries pass the test. The event made a profit of $316.93. Jenni announced that Sue Volkmer has accepted the position of Vice President. Secretary, Barbara Hill, had e-mailed the November 3, 2010 Board Minutes to the members of the Board. There were no corrections and a motion was made by Elly and seconded by Pam that the minutes be approved. The motion carried. Barbara reported that she had received an inquiry by e-mail about the club and conformation classes from Ron Duggins. Barbara responded by e-mail answering his questions about NKC and invited him to our January 19, 2011 general meeting. Barbara had received by e-mail copy of the agility judge s contract and the agility secretary s contract. Copies of both items were distributed to Pam Swisher and Debby Stokley. Pam will contact Cheryl Morris to discuss the contract. Treasurer, Debby Stokley, had e-mailed the October 31, 2010 treasurer s reports. Debby also handed the 2011 Onofrio contract to Pam Swisher. The treasurer s reports were filed of record with the secretary. Jenni, after discussing this with Debby, requested a volunteer to assist Debby with the treasurer s responsibilities. Sue is working on the annual meeting to be held in February. Elly Rensink, 2 nd Vice President had nothing to report. AKC Delegate, Jenni Toebben, had completed the required AKC Delegate position paperwork. The paperwork was signed by the secretary and Jenni will submit it to AKC for approval. Pam Swisher, 2011 Show Chair, up dated the board that she was working on the conformation judges panel. Pat Leyendecker will complete the obedience/rally application, Jenni Toebben will complete the Compliance portion of the application and Pam Swisher will complete the balance of the application. Debby was requested to complete the analysis of the July 2010 event to be used to enable the board to establish the fees for the July 2011 event Pam advised that in 2012 Qwest has some larger events to schedule in July 2012 and NKC has been requested to work with Qwest on space allocation. 2

Tim Bourke volunteered to draft a guideline that NKC can use in determining acceptable vendors for future events. Committee Reports: Education no report Legislation no report Training Classes participation has decreased as there are no close shows scheduled for the remainder of 2010. Website Sue Volkmer advised that the current host is not being cooperative and the board authorized the webmaster to change host with the cost of the new host not to exceed $100. Old business: Jenni spoke with the coordinator of the Home Show and explained that NKC did not have the manpower to staff a booth for 4 days. The event coordinator is offering a 12 x 50 space at no cost. Jenni said NKC would consider participation if some of the other local dog organizations would schedule using the space. Tim Bourke had 2 keys made for the storage unit and gave both keys to Treasurer, Debby Stokley. New Business: Tim provided copies of a NKC Survey completed in the 1980 s together with the results. Pam had sent to all board members a draft of a new survey. She has received some suggestions and will tweak the survey. Debby and Elly volunteered to up dated the membership list. Resume s had been received from Dawn Hall and Ron Weaks who are interested in filling the vacant board position. A vote was taken and the Board selected Dawn Hall. Jenni will contact Dawn to advise her. A motion to adjourn was made by Elly and seconded by Sue. The meeting adjourned at 9 PM. T NKC TRACKING TEST REPORT By Shelly Rehmeier, Tracking Test Secretary he Nebraska Kennel Club held their combined 4TD/4TDX tracking test on November 14, 2010, at Chalco Hills Recreation Area in Omaha, NE. The test was full with 4 TD s and 5 TDX s. The weather was cool and damp, which was quite a change from previous years. Judges were Dian Sulek, Jerry Lewis and Carol Ruthenberg. Even though we thought the weather was perfect for the dogs, we did not have any passes. The TD s were able to get half way thru their tracks then pull off. We had one dog make it to the last turn. The TDX s struggled with their starts and first legs. We did have one TDX dog that did make it to their first turn. The breeds that entered this year were an English Springer Spaniel, Welsh Springer Spaniel, Border Collie, Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, 2 Pembroke Welsh Corgi s, German Shepherd and 2 Rottweilers. These are all wonderful dogs and I know they will be getting their titles soon. You can view pictures of the test at http://www.dogday.com/nkctrackingtest2010. I would like to thank the following people for another successful test. Without these folks this event, like others, would not be possible: Judges: Dian Sulek, Jerry Lewis and Carol Ruthenberg. Chief Track Layer: Dawn Thrapp who did a wonderful job keeping things organized all weekend. Hospitality: Jan Hague. Event Volunteers which include Tracklayers, Cross Tracklayers, Flag Carriers, Equipment, Drivers and Raffle: Dawn Thrapp, Sharon Johnson, Marcy Greybill, Mary Kramer, Joe Bradley, Jan Hague, Marv Crawford, Sandy Crawford, Heather Ellis, Linda Schreiber, Marissa Jensen, Deb Stokley, Sue Volkmer. Photographer: Diane Hoy Food Donations: HyVee, Jan Hague, Jenni Toebben, Shelly Rehmeier. 5

Raffle Donations: We raised $203.00 from the raffle. I would like to thank each and every one of the folks who donated to the raffle: Marv and Sandy Crawford, Jane Larson, Sue Volkmer, Sue Torpy, Sandy Orr, Shelly Rehmeier, Annie Kelley, Tim and Sharon Bourke, Dawn Thrapp, Canfields, Dog Pack Treat Company, Cabela s, Petco, Sit Stay, Scheels, Tractor Supply, Whiterose Graphics (Animal Art) and Nebraska Kennel Club. Proceeds will help fund next year s event. A special thanks to Jan Hague for opening up her house for our Judges to stay and taking such good care of them. -----Photos courtesy of Diane Hoy 6
