These tests will be conducted in accordance with the Draft Test Regulations updated January 2016. Entrants are responsible for obtaining NCA Draft Test Regulations. Regulations are available online at http://www.ncanewfs.org/working/draft/index.htm The Draft Test The NCA Draft Test is a series of exercises designed to develop and demonstrate the natural abilities of purebred Newfoundland Dogs. While working in a capacity involving hauling, the dog and handler must demonstrate teamwork skills. The Newfoundland has historically functioned as a draft dog in various capacities, and the performance of these exercises is intended to demonstrate skills resulting both from natural ability and training that are applicable to realistic work situations.

The dogs must be willing to work with their handlers and the exercises must be accomplished efficiently. The goal of each handler is to maintain control while encouraging his dogs natural independence; together, they demonstrate teamwork. Acceptance of Entries Entries will be accepted by mail only and entries requiring a signature will not be accepted. Entries must be postmarked no earlier than Monday, September 26, 2016 for NCA members and no earlier than Thursday, October 6, 2016 for non-members. Any entries received with a postmark prior to those dates will be returned to sender. The available entry slots will be filled in the following manner: On October 21st all entries with an September 26th postmark will be assigned to available slot in the tests. If the number of entries with a September 26th postmark exceeds 12, a drawing will take place to determine who gets the slots and who is placed on the alternate list. If the number of entries with a September 26th postmark does not exceed 12, the entries with September 27th postmarks exceed the available slots, another drawing will take place. This process will continue until the entry is full. Entries will close at the home of the Test Secretary at 6:00 pm on Friday, October 21, 2016, or before if the entry limit is reached. After that date, entries cannot be accepted, cancelled, altered or substituted. All entries received after the entry is full will be placed on an alternate list in order of postmarks.
