Conditions LIVESTOCK BREEDERS SHOW 2016 Jamhuri Park Showground, Nairobi. 21st, 22nd, 23rd July Schedule of Classes for Guernsey s Classes are open to members of the Guernsey Cattle Society only. Closing date for entries is 31 May 2016 but it would be appreciated if entries could be submitted sooner. Entry fees 500 per head. Young Handlers 300/- Groups & Production free. Late entries will not be accepted Group members & Production entrants must also be entered as individuals in their relevant inspection class. Full details of exhibits must be entered on entry form, including sire & dam, all birth & calving dates, plus qualifying yields as required. Official certificates or copies should accompany entries. All animals must be registered with KSB as at least Foundation. Ages will be calculated from the day before judging i.e. 21 st July 2016. Transfers may be made between classes free of charge if an animal calves early or fails to calve on her due date. Committee reserves right to inspect any cattle entered, & if necessary to limit numbers of entries. If less than 20 entries forward, a breed may be amalgamated. Exhibitors are restricted to bringing no more than 20 entries forward to the show. Classes may be combined or divided if entries are insufficient or too many. Animals should be in place by 5 pm on 20th July 2016. The show will close after a final Grand Parade of livestock on the afternoon of 23 rd July 2016.. NB to exit Showground both Movement Permits and ASK gate passes will be required. Veterinary Regulations Movement permits are necessary. Cattle must be inoculated with Foot & Mouth Disease quadrivalent vaccine A O SAT 1 SAT 2 not less than 20 days & not more than 60 days prior to the Show. Lumpy Skin Disease & Anthrax vaccination are recommended but not obligatory. Exhibitors should check with their local Veterinary/Livestock Office if anything else is needed. There will be no movement of cattle from a farm in quarantine. Exhibitors must sign a certificate to the effect that to the best of their knowledge their cattle are not suffering from any contagious or infectious disease All cattle must be sprayed with acaricide. Exhibitors must clear their livestock with the veterinary officer on arrival at the Showground. Any animals with skin diseases, foot rot or any unsightly condition will be refused entry. --1--
Interbreed Classes (to be judged on the last day, 23 rd July 2016) 1. Supreme Dairy Champion Female of the Show (Brookside Cup) No entry required. Breed Society to nominate up to 3 animals, one of which must be the Champion Female of the Breed. 2. Supreme Champion Dairy Female of the Show No entry required. Breed Society to nominate up to 3 animals (one the Female Champion) from entrants in their breed classes. Conditionsa) Animals must have calved between 27 th July 2013 & 1 st July 2015 (inclusive of both dates). b) Official DRSK certificates to be submitted by the day before judging, giving lactation figures for up to 305 days. c) Only records with butterfats of at least 3.3% to be considered. Certificates should show at least one fat test in each 100 days. d) Points to be awarded: - 1 point for every 50 kg milk 2 points for every 5 kg butterfat 300 points maximum for each animal on inspection 3. Progeny Class (Brookside Trophy) Open to all dairy breeds. Breed Societies to nominate teams of three animals sired by the same sire, not necessarily from same exhibitor, but which have all been shown in their relevant breed classes. 4. Team of Seven Animals of any one Dairy Breed No entry required. Dairy Breed Societies to nominate teams of seven animals. 5. Young Handlers Competition - 1st,2nd & 3rd placed from each breed. Names & ages of all entrants to be given. To be held in 2 sections:- a) handlers aged 12 & under & b) handlers aged over 12 & under 16 years. Calves handled to be under 12 months old. 6. Stockman's Competition. No entries required. Open to all Cattle Stockmen & Exhibitors with animals forward at the Show. Competition to be in two parts:- a) Best Individual Handler Judge's nomination taking into consideration enthusiasm & turnout. b) Best maintained Cattle Line, to be judged on last day of the Show at 9am, by Breed Society's appointed panel. Criteria to include condition of cattle plus cleanliness of cattle line & environment. NB 1. The winners of Guernsey Classes 10,11 & 8 plus 2 nominations will go forward to the Interbreed on Saturday 23 rd July 2016. 2. There will be a YOUNG HANDLERS competition for each breed. If entries permit, there will be be two groups - under 12 years, and over 12 and under 16 years. Calves to be handled should be 12 months or under. 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners will go forward to the Interbreed Competition. --2--
Guernsey Classes (to be judged on either first or second day 21 st /22 nd July 2016) 1. HEIFER 15 months & under 24 months, born 21.07.2014-20.07.2015 2. In calf HEIFER 24months & under 36 months, born 21.07.2013-20.07.2014 Service date to be stated. Confirmed in calf by recent veterinary certificate of pregnancy. 3. JUNIOR CHAMPION No entry required. To be selected from 1st & 2nd placed heifers in classes 1& 2. 4. JUNIOR COW In milk, in 1st lactation, under 3 years at calving. Date of calving to be stated. 5. INTERMEDIATE COW In milk, in 2nd or 3rd lactation, under 4 years at 2nd calving. Dates of all calvings to be stated. 6. SENIOR COW In milk, having had 4 or more calves.. Dates of all calvings to be stated. 7. DRY COW Confirmed in calf over 90 days. Any age, having calved at least once. Dates of last calving & last service to be stated. 8. CHAMPIONSHIP No entry required.to be selected from 1st & 2nd placed cows in classes 4,5,6,7 and 3 (the Junior Champion & Reserve). 9. BEST UDDER No entry required. Nominations by Judge & exhibitor. 10. PROGENY CLASS Group of 3 females by the same registered sire. Entries in the name of the sire. 11. PRODUCTION For animals calving 3 rd July 2013 15 th July 2016. Lactations of not more than 305 days, recorded by the DRSK. Certificates to accompany entry & to show at least one fat test in each 100 days. Minimum fat 3.3%. 1 point for every 50 kg milk 2 points for every 5 kg fat 100 points maximum for each animal on inspection Please put qualifying yields for above class under matrons figures in table on entry form 12. MATRONS CLASS For cows with at least 5 normal calvings. Lactations of up to 365 days. DRSK certificates to accompany entry. If shown in milk an interim certificate dated up to 1 st July 2016 may be submitted. 10 points for each calving with additional 10 if in calf again (on production of veterinary certificate dated within the last month) 1 point for every 500 kg milk 2 points for every 50 kg fat 100 points max for wearing qualities & 100 points max for conformation & style --3--
