United Orpington Club Special Meet Dedicated to all Orpingtons large fowl and bantam and to the breeders of this fine fowl. The club will furnish a certificate to a BB and BV when 10 or more birds are shown in a class. One bird cannot win more than one certificate per show. It is advisable that each exhibitor have his or her birds blood tested for Pullorum-Typhoid (PT) prior to the show and/or have a valid certification. Birds that have not been tested before are subject to blood testing by the state vet soon after judging. NOTE: Ducks, Turkeys, and Pigeons are not yet required to be tested. Rules and Regulations 1. Absolutely No Late Entries!!!! Entries must be postmarked no later than November 24th, 2010. Entry fees are $3.00 per single bird and $6.00 per trio or Muscovy drake (male) and $6.00 per double coop. Entry fees must accompany entry, or entry will not be accepted. All money owed to the Washington Feather Fanciers Winter Brisk Show must be paid before judging. No phone or email entries accepted. 2. The showroom will be open to receive birds Friday, December 3 rd from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and again on Saturday morning, December 4 th at 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM. 3. All birds must be in place by 9:00 AM on Saturday, December 4 th. 4. All birds must be banded for the purpose of owner identification and judging. 5. If a bird is entered and not shown, entry fees for it will be forfeited to the show. 6. In filling out the entry form, care should be taken to state clearly sex, age, variety and band numbers of birds entered. Also, please state clearly name, address, and phone number of exhibitor. Indicate if a Junior (5 to 18 years). 7. A cock, old drake, old gander, or old cock is a male bird over one year old. A hen, old duck, old goose, or old hen is a female over one year old. A cockerel, young drake, young gander, young tom, or young cock is a male under one year. A pullet, young duck, young goose, or young hen is a female under one year. 8. The latest editions of the Standard of Perfection and the Bantam Standard will be the guides for the judges in awarding prizes for poultry and domestic waterfowl. 9. Junior exhibitors (ages 5 to 18) will compete in open class in all divisions. 10. The show will take all precautions to insure the safety and well being of exhibitors entries, but in no way will be responsible or liable for theft, injury, death, or disease. 11. No smoking in the building and no alcohol allowed on the premises. 12. No skateboards, roller skates, roller blades, bicycles, or motorcycles allowed on the premises. 13. NO DOGS!!!!!!!!!!, Cats, or other animals not related to the show allowed in the building. 14. Please insure that your birds are healthy or they will be removed from the show. 15. Birds may be removed when announcement is made to coop out. 16. Any matter not provided for in the Rules and Regulations will be referred to the Show Committee. Page 6 Winter Brisk 2010 Youth Events All youth, whether they are entering birds in the show or not, is encouraged to participate in the youth events. Showmanship - $5.00 exhibitor fee. - Getting Started in Poultry Showmanship 10:00AM - Washington Feather Fanciers is offering a free short-course seminar, "Getting Started in Poultry Showmanship." This simple hands-on class is intended to help young poultry fanciers who are interested in exhibiting a bird in Fitting and Showing or Showmanship classes at their local fairs or poultry shows, but who do not have the opportunity to belong to a poultry 4H club where they would receive some basic instruction. Children age 6 and up are invited to bring their chicken (in a box or carrier please) to the seminar, where they will learn how to hold the bird and basic handling techniques expected in showmanship classes. The seminar will be approximately 1/2 hour long. Following the seminar, showmanship classes will be held, beginning with a novice class in which participants are invited to try out their newly acquired skills in competition. This event is free and we hope the whole family will be on hand to enjoy the show. - Showmanship 11:00AM - It will be broken into Chickens/Waterfowl and Pigeons. The show table will consist of 4 groups: Novice, Junior, Intermediate, & Senior. - The Coloring Contest 12:00PM - is open to children ages 8 and under. Participation prizes will be given to all who enter. - Poster Contest Due 2:00PM Create an Informational Poster on Your Favorite Breed, How many eggs they can lay, are they a dual purpose, ornamental, or egg layer breed? What are some pros/cons about the breed, what is the known origin or your fowl? (where they are from), Does this breed have any faults? What are they? What different varieties does this breed have? Include lots of pictures. Note: Posters are for children, parents may give helpful ideas on research and places to look for info but please do not do the project for them Parental Guidance is welcomed. If you would like to focus on a variety IE Silver Laced Wyandotte talk about feather pattern and what to look for. Remember above all else, have fun! Participation prizes will be given to all who enter. Social Events - B.Y.O.C. - Please bring your own chairs to sit on, there will be some available. - Lunch Lunch will be on your own. The fairgrounds will have a concession stand open. - Raffles Raffle tickets are 4 for a $1.00. Any quality item is welcome. It does not have to be poultry related. This is an activity for the whole family, so think of things for people of all ages and interests. Please check your donations in at the raffle table Friday night or early Saturday morning. We ask that each exhibitor donate at least 1 item please. - Started/Adult Bird Silent Auction- Looking for quality adult birds to be put in the auction, minimum bids will be placed on birds to ensure the help to support the show costs. - People Choice award from Champion Row- This will take place after the judging of the best in classes and each exhibitor will get one vote on the best bird. Winner will receive a donated bag of feed! - For Sale Cages Must be a Washington Feather Fancier Member to sell birds. There will be cages available for $5.00 each for the entire show. Please request on your entry form. Renters are responsible for the care and feeding of their birds. Only healthy birds should be sold. Overcrowding is not allowed birds can be rotated throughout the show. See Jim Volk for rental of cages. Please bring extra boxes for birds that you purchase. -Any club or individual may set up an informational display but they must provide their own tables and chairs. Only non-food items may be sold (this is a fair policy). There will be no fee for this activity. A raffle donation would be greatly appreciated by those selling things. - Banquet- We will be having a catered banquet in the 4H building on the fairgrounds at 6:00pm Saturday December 4 th. Plaques will be awarded to the Best Of Class in each of Bantams, Large Fowl, Ducks, Geese & Pigeons, if Minimum of 5 birds by 2 different exhibitors. there are 5 birds from 2 different exhibitors entered, unless otherwise listed.
