BUYER S INSTRUCTIONS SLIP Ultrasonic scanning of the 12th rib muscle gives the width of the eye muscle (A), the depth of the eye muscle (B), and the depth of fat between the eye muscle and the skin (C). This allows the calculation of the eye muscle area (EMA). The Meat Index is a means of ranking the young sheep within the stud by liveweight, eye muscle dimensions and fat depth. The formula used adds value for bigger eye muscle dimensions and subtracts value for excessive fat depth. More emphasis is given to Eye Muscle Width than Eye Muscle Depth as muscle width is more to do with the genetics of the sheep e.g. shape and leanness whereas depth is associated with the environment e.g. feeding, stress etc. The higher the index the better. Ovine Brucellosis Accreditation Ovine brucellosis is an infection of the testicles which results in infertility in rams. It is easily spread from infected to uninfected rams resulting in lower lambing percentages. There is no practical individual ram treatment. Sire rams from brucellosis-accredited studs undergo blood tests every 1 to 3 years to detect the presence of this disease. By buying rams from brucellosis accredited studs you are sure of not introducing this to your enterprise. 2 Name... Buyer s Bid Number... Telephone No... It was founded in 2005 with the main breeding objective of producing rams that will sire lambs that are fast growing, structurally correct, well-muscled sheep with well developed loin and hind quarter and with smoothness through the shoulders for easier lambing. Founded and building on the genetics of highly successful studs including Hillden at Bannister, Tattykeel at Oberon, Springwaters at Boorowa and Abelene Park at Tamworth, sires purchased by are carefully considered to ensure they possess the traits to benefit the long term direction of the stud. This is identified by the genetic as well as physical attributes of the ram to compliment the stud s strategic breeding objectives. We also aim to only breed and sell rams with good temperaments and easy handling ability. Our latest purchase is a $10,000 ram from Hillden (Hillden 77-14). Our lambs are weighed within 12 hours of birth, at weaning and at 7 months of age to correspond with the Australian Sheep Breeding Values (ASBV) BWT, WWT and PWT. These weights are then graphed so that the growth trend of the individual ram is easily identified. There is no hesitation in culling any sheep within the stud that do not meet the high standards for growth and conformation. Stockscan is also part of the assessment tools that we use to select the sale rams and validates the visual traits we identify as necessary for top class stock. Measurement of eye muscle depth and width to calculate the eye muscle area identifies the meat producing ability of the ram. The results shown are from June 2017. We are very pleased with the results this year. has been using Guidar vaccine on all the sheep on the property for 15 years and is brucellosis accredited. Accreditation number: CW 06/19. The rams were drenched with Cydectin SE on 27/08/2017. The rams were vaccinated with Glanvac 6 in1 on 27/08/2017. 18 3

LOT Tag Sire FOUNDED 2006 FLOCK 4733 21 122-16(t) 5.6 95 32.19 7 1022 Our aim is to produce rams with high fertility & vigour that will sire high quality first cross ewes. Since its foundation we have aimed to improve body structure (length and depth), productivity (eye muscle and wool production) and produce early maturing lambs. This is reflected in the first cross ewes. Our established clients have been very happy with the rams performance and longevity. Clients are also pleased with prices achieved at First Cross Sales. Second cross lamb sales have also been very pleasing. Lambs have matured quickly. In 2015 we purchased two new sires at the Horsham Ram Sale. The first was from Bauer Stud (J & T Buerckner, Temora). This ram won the Objective Measurement class at Sydney Royal as well as Junior Champion. The second stud sire was from Bindaree (R & R Sweeny, Merrygoen). This ram has great body length and depth. We are very pleased to offer progeny by these sires at this year s sale. The progeny have returned impressive Stockscan figures (scanned in August).
