Vol III Selling 75 Simmental, SimAngus & Angus Females Monday, October 12, 2015 Simmental Farms Clay Center, Kansas

Monday, October 12, 2015-1:00 PM, CDT Simmental Farms 2244 19th Rd Clay Center, Kansas Welcome Rodney & Kim Clay Center, Kansas Ph. 785-944-3674 785-630-0024 (c) hsfcows@gmail.com Kevin Carol Lyle Dixson Atwood, Kansas Ph. 785-626-3744 785-626-4391 (c) drlyle@live.com David & Jane Burgman Leonardville, Kansas Ph. 785-293-4951 785-293-2484 (c) burgmanfarms@twinvalley.net to our third Burlap and Barbed Wire female sale. We are excited to bring you this offering. These females represent the top cut from our individual herds and are sound, functional, profitable females that know how to work for a living. As always, we have a shared commitment to integrity and a vision of the importance of proven maternal value. Each of us goes about it in a slightly different way, but the focus is the same: build a better cow, and the rest will take care of itself. This year s sale offering again includes Simmental, SimAngus, and Angus, along with a few Simmental x Hereford calves. There are fall and summer pairs, spring and fall opens, and spring breds. Because of our unwavering belief in selection for proven maternal traits without regard to the current popular bulls, you will find pedigrees at this sale which are complete outcross to many of the most popular lines of bulls. The mating flexibility provided by these outcross genetic packages presents a tremendous opportunity. You may notice fewer of the offering from Dixson Farms than last sale. Because they have the opportunity to expand their operation, they are retaining females that would have come to this sale. The summer pairs they brought are cows that will give someone a quick return on investment. Whether you are looking for your next donor, a junior project, or just an honest, hard working female for your herd, take a good look at this offering and plan to be with us on Monday, Oct. 12th. If you can t be with us on Monday, feel free to contact any of the breeders or sale staff, and we will assist you in whatever way possible. our soggy 2013 sale day View sale videos online: www.bandbsale.com

A93 is a half sister to the Genex sire, HSF High Roller 12T, and her dam, 33R has made a huge impact on our herd as well as many others. Her Xpectation heifer calf gives the buyer the potential for two donors in one package. If you want to talk numbers, she is in the top 10% of the breed for growth and has above average calving ease and birth weight EPDs. We purchased 5640 s granddam (108M) in their dispersal. 108M was a great producer for us without a lot of added inputs. 5640 should be of similar kind.

Simmental Farms (Rodney & Kim) began in 1979 when Rodney first started raising Simmentals. Our program, which is total AI and ET, is based upon using proven AI sires with particular emphasis placed on calving ease and maternal traits. Optimum growth and disposition are also given high priority. To us, good beef cattle are cattle that do their job, regardless of their color or Simmental Farms purebred status. We strive for a cow herd that produces quality bulls and females for commercial cattlemen and purebred breeders alike. Our bulls are marketed off the farm in the spring through a unique, buyer-friendly sale. Our cull stock has been marketed through several different venues over the years. We have fed both on the farm and in custom feedlots, always selling through a value-based grid. We have also sold through the local barn, just as some of our commercial bull buyers do. These experiences have provided invaluable knowledge about how our cattle perform and sell. We are increasingly experimenting with alternative forages in this day of higher input costs and limited availability of grass. Dixson Farms Inc. is located in the far northwest corner of Kansas, southwest of Atwood, and is owned and operated by siblings Kevin, Carol, and Lyle Dixson. The Simmental program was started in 1995 with a breed up program with additional registered females added along the way. The cowherd now consists of a nucleus herd that calves in February-March, and a non-traditional summer calving herd. These May-June calving Dixson Farms Simmentals cows are managed as a low input herd and expected to graze year round. Our focus has always been producing better females with particular emphasis on fertility, fleshing ability, disposition, feet, and legs. In addition, we market 40-50 yearling and two year-old bulls annually to commercial operations. Kevin retired from teaching and is now a full-time pastor. His wife Abbi is also retired from teaching. They have 3 grown daughters: Kinsey, Kylie, and Kaedra. Carol is a 5th and 6th grade teacher in Oberlin. Lyle is a part-time veterinarian and part-time pharmacist. His wife, Alisha, and their 4 children -- Brenan (14), Braxton (10), Beckett (7) and Brecklyn (4) -- are very active participants in the cattle program. Burgman Farms consists of David and Jane Burgman and our children, Jada (15) and Brock (10), and our cattle and horses. We have a mixed operation of registered and commercial Angus which are managed together. Because we all four work together (and oftentimes only Jane, Jada, and Brock accomplish the livestock duties), our cattle have to be easy to handle and gentle, besides being Burgman Farms productive, honest cows. Quality udders, disposition, calf performance, and fertility are traits that we place a heavy emphasis on when selecting females for our herd. Each year we rely heavily on crop residue and/or dormant grass, and generally feed a lot of wheat straw as roughage in the winter. Over the years, our program has shifted marketing our cattle. We now primarily sell spring calves off the cow at weaning in early September. Due to this change, we do not collect weaning weights since we no longer run the entire herd through the chutes. Please do not let this dissuade you, as our calves still perform and offer the same solid genetic material as before.
