Dengue Situation Update Number 510 14 February 2017 Update on the Dengue situation in the Western Pacific Region Northern Hemisphere China (No update) As of 31 December 2016, there were 2,076 cases of dengue reported in China in 2016. This number is lower than that reported during the same period in 2015 (Figure 1). Figure 1: Number of Dengue cases per month, China 2012-2016 National Health and Family Planning Commission Malaysia A total of 1,550 cases of dengue were reported during week 5, which is fewer than the 1,858 cases reported in the previous week (decrease of 16.6 %) (Figure 2). The cumulative number of cases reported in 2017 (9,000 cases) is lower than the number of cases reported during the same period in 2016 (17,143 cases). Philippines (No update) As of 5 November 2016, there were 176,411 suspected cases of dengue reported in 2016, including 422 deaths. This is 0.8% lower than that reported during the same period in 2015 (n=177,767) Figure 3). The cumulative number of cases in 2017 (n=359) is lower than the number of cases reported or the same period since 2013 (Figure 4). Lao PDR As of 27 January in 2017, there were 283 cases of dengue with no deaths reported in Lao PDR in 2017. During week 4, seventy new dengue cases and no deaths were reported. The number of cases is higher than the same time period in 2015 and 2016, but has been decreasing since week 47 (Figure 5). For the month of December, there were 11,166 cases reported including one death. Compared to November 2016, number of cases decreased by 28.6%, and there were 6 fewer deaths. Compared to same period in 2015, cumulative number of cases increased by 25.2%, and there were 18 fewer deaths. Compared to the median in 2011-2015 period, cumulative number of cases increased by 73.6% (Figure 6). Cambodia As of 9 February 2017, a total of 81 cases of suspected dengue cases reported in 2017. The number of suspected dengue cases including dengue haemorrhagic fever and dengue shock syndrome was lower than 3 year-threshold of the same period from 2014-2016 (Figure 7) Figure 7: Number of cases of Dengue fever, Dengue haemorrhagic fever, and Dengue shock syndrome reported by week in 2014 2017, Ministry of Health, Cambodia Southern Hemisphere Australia As of 14 February 2017, there were 143 laboratory-confirmed dengue cases reported in Australia in 2017. The number of cases reported is less than that reported during the same time period in the previous years (2012-2016) (Figure 8). Pacific Islands Countries and Areas French Polynesia (No update) A total of 21 confirmed dengue cases were reported in French Polynesia between 19 December 2016 and 1 January 2017 (11 cases in week 51 and 10 cases in week 52) (Figure 9). Four (18%) of the 21 cases were confirmed as DENV-1 infection.
