Woofer November - 2 The Board meeting was called to order at 6:10 p.m., but with several Board members out of town there was not a quorum, and all committee reports were given for information only. The minutes of the August meeting were in the Woofer and the Treasurer s report was handed out. Committee reports: The Training Committee reported a planned Show and Go for October 8, and said additional teachers could be used for the upcoming October/November classes. The Agility Committee says that the field is in good shape considering our hot dry summer. The outdoor lights installed are helpful, but additional lighting may be necessary for adequate illumination during winter evenings. The Membership Committee reported 6-8 new members, for a rough total of 150 members. The Tracking Committee reports that the TDU event scheduled for November 20 at Roane State is progressing well. The premium list for the January 2017 show had an August 31 deadline, the Show Committee reported, and it will be proofed in late October. There will be another Show meeting held the first week of January, probably at the agility trial in Harriman. Oak Ridge Kennel Club Board and Membership Meetings September 1, 2016 Old Business: Sandra Voina gave a report of the use of the facility buildings and field for practice, the new web site was discussed, the repairs made to the buildings were discussed as were the service calls for our AC/heat unit. The Board also thanked Ken Dudley for his role in arranging for and then spreading the new gravel in the parking area. New Business: The need for painting the buildings was discussed. Ken has offered to provide a quote if we wish to have it done this year. An e-vote could expedite the decision while the weather is still good. Membership Meeting: Jean Burdick provided a brief overview of tracking and things she learned at a tracking seminar in 2015. She helped us understand that the dog, not the handler, has the lead in this sport, where it recognizes a specific scent, follows it for up to 500 yards with up to 5 turns, and finishes by finding a placed item. ORKC offers tracking classes for 4 teams starting in October. The meeting was adjourned at 7:55 p.m. Oak Ridge Kennel Club Agility Trial January 6, 2017 - Std, JWW, FAST, Premier JWW, T2B January 7, 2017 - Std, JWW, Premier Std & JWW, T2B January 8, 2017 - Std, JWW & T2B East Tennessee Agricultural Exposition Center 276 Patton Lane, Harriman, TN 37748 (packed dirt, indoors, heated) First Received - 660 runs Entries Open: Wednesday, October 26, 2016 8:00 am Entries Close: Friday, December 23, 2016 6:00 pm Entry fees $25/$14/$12/$12 Send entries to: Jane Mohr, Trial Secretary PMB 395, 330 Franklin, Suite 135A Brentwood, TN. 37027

Woofer November - 3 Oak Ridge Kennel Club Board and Membership Meetings October 6, 2016 The Board meeting was called to order at 6:07 p.m. by President Ashley Richardson. The Secretary read the minutes of the September meeting and the Treasurer presented her report, which were both for information only, as there was not a quorum of the Board present. Committee reports: The Agility Committee: Tim Snow reported that the break-away tire has arrived and is being assembled, and he reminded us of the trial in White Pine this weekend. The Show Committee has scheduled another show meeting on Sunday, November 13 and still seeks volunteers for help with catalog advertising, local promotion and vouchers. Old Business: Sandra Voina tells us that individual practice during the hot summer using the facility buildings and field has been bringing in about $60 each month. It has presently picked up to about $100 a month, the same as last year. Ken Dudley submitted a quote for pressure washing and/or painting all the buildings outside, and painting the trim inside. It was forwarded for e-vote, and following discussion, passed by the voting deadline. Ken will begin preparing the buildings soon. When painting is complete, a sign to be seen from the highway on one of the buildings was suggested. The Oak Ridge sign ordinance will be consulted, and we will discuss what type of sign will be most visible. New Business: The Christmas party, which takes the place of our December meeting, was discussed and it was suggested to have it as we did last year, a lunch at Mimi s Café in Turkey Creek near Lovell Road and I-40. This was tentatively approved by the Board, but other suggestions are welcome. Long time member Marg Ellis has resigned from the Board because of a change in her circumstances. She suggested that Ken Dudley be appointed to serve out her term until the next election in June, 2017. The Board will take action on this at their November meeting. Membership Meeting New ORKC member Rosana Dropkin presented us with Nosework, a new fun sport for dogs. The dogs use their extraordinary sense of smell to identify and locate different scents. In competition the dogs locate those scents hidden in boxes, luggage, in rooms and vehicles all with time limits. As the only certified Nosework instructor in East Tennessee, Rosana will begin giving classes and individual lessons at the ORKC facility soon (www.sunshinek9s,com or ro.sunshinek9s@gmail.com). The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m. Tracking Dog Urban Test Sunday, November 20, 2016 Roane State Community College 276 Patton Lane Harriman, TN 37748 Limited to 5 Dogs CLOSING: Wed, Nov. 9, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. (Central Time) - after which time entries cannot be accepted, cancelled or substituted DRAWING: Drawing for the entries will be Wed Nov 9, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. in, Columbia, TN 38402 JUDGES Jane Kline Ashland City, TN Debbie Maheu Columbia, TN Tracking Test Secretary: Ed Presnall P O Box 1845, Columbia, TN 38402 505-382-7610 877-275-3332 edp@pawmark.com

He was that one special dog who excelled in Obedience and Rally, and who found a place deep in our hearts. He spent many happy years training at ORKC and showing in our trials. He will be forever in our hearts. Richard and Barbara Chandler Once you have had a wonderful dog, a life without one, is a life diminished. - Dean Koontz
