BAY DE NOC KENNEL CLUB GENERAL MEETING MINUTES September 14, 2017 Present: Board: President, Pat Beauchamp; Treasurer, Vicki Sowa; Secretary, Wendolyn Tetlow; Director, Barbara Tardiff; Director, Virginia Lewis; Director, Dani Beauchamp. Members: Judy Akkala, Pat Bernat, Ernie Genaw, Lori Genaw, Coleen Lake, Bernie Larson, Linda Larson, Linda Lavolette, Katrina Lessard, Dick Lyle, Jean Lyle, Cindy Mossing, Chris Nelson, Colleen Owens The meeting was brought to order at 7:00 p.m. by President Pat Beauchamp. Reading of the Minutes: Wendolyn summarized the August 10, 2017 minutes which was accepted as summarized. OLD BUSINESS: 1. Fall Agility Trial: 70 runs are scheduled for both days of the weekend. The trials begin at 9:30 a.m. Colleen will send out a reminder to everyone who volunteered to work The former animal shelter building will be used for the food There will be baked goods and coffee available for donations The rummage sale will be set up in the training facility 2. Facilities Update: Pat Beauchamp said the building looks great, especially the red doors. She thanked the volunteers for their hard work. Thanks go especially to Chris Nelson who organized the workers for the painting project. Appreciation should go to husbands of members who also helped construct the fence and paint the facilities. Since the paint for the project was $139.32 over the amount of money collected in donations, the club agreed to pay Chris for the overage.
3. Ad in Daily Press: The ad thanking the Foundation ran on September 9, the Saturday before the Agility Trial. 4. Business Cards for BDNKC: Pat Beauchamp shared the new business cards containing the club website. The cards will be left in vets offices, boarding kennels, and the Delta Animal Shelter. The business cards will also be available in the club facility. Thanks to Pat for designing and paying for the business cards. 5. Fur Raiser: If anyone wants to buy tickets to the annual Animal Shelter Fund Raiser, please contact the Delta Animal Shelter. BDNKC will not be reserving a table this year. NEW BUSINESS: 1. Obedience/Rally Trial: Linda Etten, Martha Kinnunen, and Arlene Rauschl would like to hold a fun match/correction clinic at the club facility. Rally will be included in the fun match. The match will begin at 10 a.m. and all money collected would go to the Kennel Club. Saturday, November 4 or Sunday, November 5, are days that are possible. Pat Beauchamp explained that classes, clinics, matches, and trials (instructional and revenue-generating activities) take precedence over practices at the facility when there are conflicts in scheduling. 2. Nominations for officers: No nominations were made. Elections will be held at the Annual Meeting, Thursday, October 12, 2017, 7 p.m. STANDING CLUB ITEMS Classes, practices, and tests: 1. Obedience Classes: Lori Genaw reported that the Beginner's Obedience Class ended on September 5. It was an excellent group of dogs and handlers. Another Beginner's Obedience Class will be offered in January, as well as an Advanced class. Dates will be on the website. 2. Puppy Class: Pat Beauchamp reported that puppy class continues to attract new puppies. Walk-in registration is available every week for $5.00. 3. Nosework Class: A new class will begin on October 4. Jean Lyle will be the instructor. 2
4. Intro to Agility Class: This is a beginners class which will begin on September 26. Andrea Jackson is the instructor. 5. Rally: Those interested in Rally can sign up for a Rally Practice Group and Rally Class online. When Lori has enough people, she will schedule class and practice times. 6. Conformation: Those interested in Conformation classes or Practice Group should sign up online, and when there is enough people, the class and practice times will be announced. Coleen Lake bragged that Eli, Golden Retriever, got his UKC Novice Exterior title at the Sheboygan Sniff and Splash events (UKC and AKC), August 17-20, 2017. Eli also got two legs toward his Novice Handler Discrimination title with a 2 nd place and a 1 st place and High in Trial (HIT). At the UKC Nosework Trial in Amherst, Wisconsin, September 9-10, 2017, Eli also got his Novice Handler Discrimination title with a 1 st place! He also got an Advanced Vehicle title, placing 2 nd in both trials. Congratulations, Team Eli!!! Woo! Woo!! 2.) Colleen Owens shared a super brag! At the UKC Nosework Trial in Amherst, Wisconsin, September 9-10, 2017, Harley, Lab, got FIVE new titles: Novice Exterior Novice Interior Advanced Exterior Advanced Interior Advanced Container He got one leg toward his Novice Vehicle, passed the Pre-trial Advanced, took FOUR 1 st places, took FIVE 2 nd places, and only one NQ. Congratulations Team Harley!! Remy, on the other hand, (this is a bitch ) had two NQ s in Novice and Superior Pretrials and was very nervous. He rested for the remainder of the trial. 3.) Virginia Lewis bragged that at the UKC Nosework Trial in Amherst, Wisconsin, September 9-10, 2017, Roxy, 9-year-old Bichon-Shitzu mix, completed a Novice Title. In Novice Exterior Roxy took 3 rd and one NQ. In Novice Vehicle she took one 3 rd and one NQ, and in Novice Interior took one 5 th. She passed the Advanced Pre-Trial and took a 1 st and 2 nd in Container; and in Advanced Interior took a 2 nd on her first leg. Awesome, Team Roxy!!! 3
Lacey, Bichon-Shitzu mix puppy, passed the Pre-Trial Novice test. Go, Lacey! 4.) Chris Nelson bragged that at the High Five Canine Club, UKC Agility Trials, located in Gaylord, Michigan, on September 9, 2017, LahDeeDah, a wondrous Aussie, took three 1 st places, two 2 nd places, which equals one UGRACH leg and one High in Trial. On September 10, 2017, LahDeeDah took FIVE 1 st places and one 2 nd place, which equals one more UGRACH leg and TWO High in Trial. Chris says this will never happen again, so she has to brag about it. Congratulations! What an amazing dog and terrific team!!! 5.) Pat Bernat bragged that at the Sheboygan Barn Hunt trials, September 18-19, 2017, Finn, Golden Retriever, qualified twice, including a 1st Place and Novice High in Trial. Chica, Aussie, qualified in all four Barn Hunt trials in Sheboygan, getting her Barn Hunt Novice title with three 1st places and one 3rd places. Congratulations! At the High Five Canine Club, UKC Agility Trials, in Gaylord, Michigan, September 9-10, 2017, Chica qualified in all eight runs, placing in each. She had three 1st places, four 2nd places, and one 3rd, accumulating a total of 50 championship points. WOW!! Congratulations, Team Chico, a winning team! 6.) Lori Genaw bragged that at the Marquette AKC All-Breed Conformation Show, September 1-3, 2017, Rosie, Japanese Chin, completed her Championship at only eight months of age!!! On September 1 she took BOB (Best of Breed) over two Champions of Record. WOW! Well done! Woody, also Japanese Chin, took two Group Threes in the Toy Group on Saturday, Show 2 and in the Sunday show. Yah, Japanese Chins! Go Lori and Ernie!! 7.)Wendolyn Tetlow bitched that Liesel and Lutz, standard long-haired dachshunds, tangled with a skunk late one night before the Marquette AKC All-Breed Conformation Show, September 1-3, 2017. The expression Stinkin cute took on a new meaning! Despite the stink, GCH CH Lutz Von Skaer RN JE RATO CGC took a Group 4 and Group 3 in the Hound Group, September 1 and 2. Stardust Amberlicht Liesel Von Lutz RATN CGC completed the Novice Diving Title (DN Lap) at the NADD (North American Dock Diving) AKC competition in Sheboygan on August 19, 2017. Also, between Liesel and Lutz, they took three UKC Nosework titles at the same weekend Sniff and Splash event in Sheboygan. 4
7.) Vicki Sowa bragged that at the High Five Canine Club, UKC Agility Trials in Gaylord, Michigan, September 9-10, 2017, Comet, Papillon, scored two 1 st places in AGII, but he was once again the King of the 5-point fault, so he didn t earn any championship points. Bummer!! 8.) Cindy Mossing bragged that at the August 25, 2017, NADAC trial, Merlin, terrier, got 10 qualifying scores and earned his Novice Regular and Novice Jumpers titles. BRAVO!!! Good boy! At the same trial, Arthur, terrier, got 4 qualifying scores and earned his Intro Hoopers and Novice Tunnelers titles. YAHOO! Well done, Team Cindy! Two weeks later, at the UKC agility trial in Gaylord, Michigan, Arthur refused the teeter for the first time since last year and Merlin refused the tunnel...three times! Bummer. 9.)Pat Beauchamp bragged about how great the club has become over the years with so many accomplishments and wins, and how well the club has come together recently and taken on new challenges and opportunities! 5
10.) Linda Lavolette bragged that at a UKC agility trial in LaPorte, Indiana, September 9-10, 2017, Twister, collie, ran four times in AGIII and got three AGIII legs. BRAVO, Team Twister and Judge Linda!!!! 11.) Katrina Lessard bragged that Callie, mixed breed black lab, got FOUR Agility Titles, three at a NADAC competition on August 19-20, 2017; and one, Hoopers, on August 12 NADAC video trail: Intro Regulars Intro Chances Intro Hoopers Intro Barrelers Congratulations, Team Callie!!!
