A Word About The PHILLYFIT BASH! By Dr. Rob Danoff Hey Philadelphia! Are you all recovered from Steppin' Out with your 422 Shoes while climbing the Philadelphia Rock with your friends at Arnolds, or are you still Flippin' Out over your awesome experience in BounceU after training at Gold's and The Far Post for the PhillyFit Challenge? If you said yes, then congratulations on being one of more than 10,000 people who participated in the 4th PhillyFit Bash in Oaks, Pennsylvania. It was an awesome day! Well, let me clarify. If you like to be around friendly people who are interested in music, exercise, health, nutrition, pets, helping others to be the best they can be, while also checking out the tasty food and taking the occasional sip of wine or locarb beer, then you would have had a great time. But, if you only like to exercise with Billie Blanks and his Tae Bo or climb rock walls while listening to the rockin' music of the live eight piece band, you would have had an amazing time. However, if you were only interested in de-stressing after your healthy cooking lesson with a beauty makeover, yoga lesson and massage, you would have had a fabulous time. As for your kids, if their idea of fun is playing games with Radio Disney while bouncing around on that smile producing slide while watching Tigerman and eating some cool snacks, well, I guess they would have a great time too! Hmm, are you sensing a common theme? As a family doc I can tell you that Jami Appenzeller and her wonderful team had one heck of a prescription for fun, and that was the PhillyFit Bash. I even got to climb the rock wall and "hang out" about twenty-five feet above the ground with CN8 television personality, Jill Horner. Of course, this was after I sampled (OK, devoured) some of the tasty treats being served in the food area. It's a good thing the safety harness wasn't too tight! One of my favorite times during the Bash was meeting with some of the vendors. A very touching moment for me was speaking with Patti and Jeannine, who formed the non-profit organization known as CAROL For Heart, which is dedicated to their late mom. This group is focused on preventing women's heart disease through education, and these wonderful women were reaching out to so many people at the Bash in the hope of helping others avoid losing the women in their lives to heart disease. This experience was just the beginning. Lance Armstrong's organization "LIVESTRONG" was there, as were groups to educate us on ovarian cancer, good nutrition, pet safety, health, nutrition, and physical fitness. Keeping everyone safe, were the paramedics from the Yardley-Makefield squad, as well as the wonderful professionals from the Oak's police and fire departments. It was really great to see everyone united and focused on having fun, getting to know a new friend, and keeping the PhillyFit spirit alive and thriving. The 4th PhillyFit Bash was an AWESOME day. Even though it is over, I have some good news to share with you- the 5th PhillyFit Bash is just around the corner! So if you want to have some fun, meet new people, listen to top notch health experts, dance to an amazing band, have some really good food, play some games, then bring yourself, your family and friends, and your Aunt Edna to the next PhillyFit Bash. After all, it's the healthy thing to do! bio
